  1. I don't know the answer but look forward to seeing it.
  2. There are two main reasons why this is happening: 1. There are different settings for different weapons in the DB. An example would be an aircraft that carries HARMs but does not carry some sort of support pod at the same time. What happens is that the missile will lock onto a radar but you don't have a choice as to what that is. An F-16 with a HARM Targeting Pod however, will bring up a list of radars to attack. 2. [and the most likely reason] The seeker on the HARM cannot see the radar you are trying to attack. This is either because the power output of the radar is too low [such as in LPI radars] or [most likely] the altitude of the aircraft that is carrying the HARM is too low and below the radar horizon of the target. In ANW, a passive homing weapon must be able to see the target that it's trying to attack before it can launch [think getting the 'tone' for a Sidewinder AAM]. What this means is that you have to allow the weapon to 'see' the target by increasing your altitude. Of course, this allows more of the bad guys to see you, but what's life without a little fun? Later D More fun for the player than the pilot I'd guess. Buddha Maybe there will one day be a "Pain Feedback" option for real 'bum in seat' simulation. Some thirty years ago I used a navigational simulator, the instructor would give you something akin to real pain if you turned your frigate across the bows of a carrier or ran onto a reef, does make it more interesting to have a bit of suffering I think.
  3. Currently enjoying these, starting with Headbutt#2. Not sure how I missed them when they came on board, very nice - one of those "smaller is better" (ed update) Yep, a goodie, managed to get total victory for both, but was feeling a bit uneasy when playing Red. We seemed to be going neck and neck for a while. Tried a few of Rainman's tips and they are probably what got me through, Thanks for another great Harpoon scenario.... Don

  6. Enrique, you had a pretty good description of the situation in your initial orders, if you still have it would it be worth posting a copy here? Don
  7. The Australian girls all liked "Patrol Boat", but I don't think it was anything to do with realism or good drama (although it was good drama) From memory it was a while ago, perhaps 1980's. I think they had an "A" class patrol boat and the first of those came across (from UK?) late 70's (or early 80's?). A scaled down version of the earlier popular series on the BBC (UK), perhaps "Warship" as mentioned. Personally I go for the comedy types and McHales Navy was a childhood favourite. I loved the one where the crew had a clothes washing scam going which ended in the base CO's dress uniform getting torpedoed Don There's a modern remake of the Patrol Boat show, called Sea Patrol. I watched the first couple of seasons, wasn't too bad. I can't make any claims as to it's accuracy. They started in an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fremantle_class_patrol_boat and then transferred to a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armidale_class_patrol_boat From what I understand I'd bet the actors were very glad of the 'upgrade' to Armidales. I wonder how much burly they produced, at least the fishing would have been good Don This is shown on Universal in the UK - I've seen a couple of episodes. I've just found and borrowed from the local library "Sea Patrol 3" on DVD (four disc set of complete series). I think relative to the original series the 'drama' has been turned up a few notches at the loss of some reality (well I hope so 'cause in the first two episodes RAN personnel are captured and held hostage on civilian boats). A shame the boarding parties didn't carry the good old auto shot gun or my favourite the F1 sub-machine gun, would have been a different story me thinks Don Thomas
  8. Cost aside, it is surely a concept that will be the norm some time in the future. Look at commercial stuff that is planned, what chance would that have had without the shuttle project. Maybe a bit like manned flights to the moon, they did a few but aren't that important at the moment - but they will be in the future. For those interested I used to run "Orbiter" (free space ship simulator) before Harpoon took up all my disk space. Its a real cool contraption with seemingly pretty real 'physics' involved. Its more like doing a physics exam than flying a plane. Getting a space shuttle up into orbit and rendezvous the international space station took me a LOT of practice. I think its easily found on the 'net by a search. Don Thomas
  9. An interesting process going through the wish list forthe last year and a half, reading each and understanding so as to put similar wish items together and thinking about what parts of the total picture they fit. My favourite was "A nice intro video., “it would pump up any noob to the awesomeness of the sim”" as it shows the enthusiasm that keeps Harpoon Classic going so strong. Plenty of 'hits' for multiplayer and logistics and improving IFR, LR air patrols and the poor old staff assistant (try as he might he just isn't appreciated, but really could we do without him???) Capturing enemy units and carrying units on units also looks high on peoples wishes, and rightly so I'd say. Have a look and a think. PS I'm of to my wish list to tidy it up to be closer to the suggestions in wish list guidlines, cause I can now see that it would make the condensing job much easier Don Thomas HC_WishLists_Condensed_2011.pdf HC_WishLists_Condensed_2011.xls
  10. final update of condensed wish list now posted separately in new thread, this forum.
  11. ScooterJock, all your wish list items included in the latest condensed wish list, Don (PS out soon at your nearest Harpoon web site
  12. Maybe they'll keep the French built units for use outside Arctic waters and only reinforce their home built ships? What they say (now) and what they do (in the future) can easily differ. Plenty of use over in the northern pacific (or closer to china?) Who knows what sort of alliances will be in 10 years time. I see a Harpoon scenario of ex Russian Chinese aircraft carrier fighting it out with a French built Russian Helo carrier.
  13. Maybe the world is going back to the good old military rule of thumb "wait till you see the whites of their eyes". After all it used to work (well when the use of personnel as canon fodder was acceptable).
  14. I snagged the Excel, will take a look at it this weekend. Fair warning: I intend to add my since-forever pet peeve--not being warned if an air group on afterburner is going below Bingo. I mean, come on--even us dumb stick actuators know enough to pull back on the loud lever when the Bingo light comes on... Jeff Hi Jeff, I think you'll see others have had the same suggestion. I think it is one of the wishes that gets more mention than just in the wish lists, so plug it in, the more 'hits' it gets in the wish lists I guess the higher goes its priority. I'm part way through the latest condensed wish list but I'll make sure all yours go in before I wrap up and post the final. Don
  15. Yeah, I am not going to worry too much about that. I'm only concerned with the alien ships' movement inside Earth's atmosphere, so I'm figuring about 1,500 knots for the drone (in pure ion fusion afterburner, heh) and a crawl for the 'hovering' mothership. Great idea about the 'walker' too. Classic. I've added that. These entries' specs will probably be provisional as we figure out what works best. I played around with these a little, and have a few thoughts about drones- NO radar- The HCE game engine is irresponsible about activating a radar. Once detected by ESM, the drones are relatively easy to kill. Add ESM- and make them VERY stealthy. This will force the human player to be careful about activating radars and lead to more visual, short range detections. Much faster. I'm thinking at high alt 850/1250/2500 or so. Longer range. A typical (F-15) fighter fleeing on burner will cause a drone to RTB with a 1000 NM range. Some area defence for the mothership. agree with the radar and esm. Flying vhigh was a challenge, cuts down on effective throwing sticks. Maybe the current range is OK, there has to be some weakness (doesn't there, there always is in the movies!) Should there also be a vlow flying critter to add to the close in defense? Maybe slow cruise but very quick high speeds and same short range heat ray thingee?? I must admit to giving up throwing nukes at the mother ship, I just packed my bags and went home (sorry London).
