Divefreak has requested an increase to the number of runway sizes in the DB structure and perhaps more importantly to actually include them in the import/export process so that they flow from the PE to the commondb.res and back. This is not a trivial change in terms of level of effort but it is a similar pattern to what we have done in the last couple of months with increasing the number of country names and aircraft types. Level of programming effort for the PE <-> commondb.res changes: ~20 hours Level of programming effort to modify the game logic to understand and use more runway sizes: TBD (research will take ~1 hour) To put the pro…

Here we can link to and contribute public domain pics for the latest DB. Anything on wikipedia is game right? I think it will be important to track in this thread the proof of public domain status of each image and the ID number that you and Brad assign to each image (or IDs assigned if they are used for more than one commondb.rsr). A link to a high resolution version of the file is also a hopeful contribution to the goal of being able to use higher resolution media down the road. A brief intro to the licensing is that most wikicommons materials fall under... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Tex...nported_License Surface craft Osprey 55 cla…

Brad, just working on two new HCE scens, one using the HCDB. Browsing through the units I stumbled over the SU-33. There is a loadout where it carries 14 misslies - 12 Adder and 2 Archer. I knew that this bird can carry a large load, but thought the limit is 10 missiles. Have I missed something? Regards, Ralf

A curious article about air-to-air radar ranges. The author don't cites sources and it's a little outdated, but the numbers are very coherent: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~dheb/230...les/PG/PGSA.htm http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~dheb/2300/Admin/Index3.htm The article is game-related, but interesting.

I can almost buy the Rafale being so stealthy that an E2-C can't see it until it's under 100 miles away but I fire 16 AIM-54 at two of them and they ALL miss? and what kills them? a pair of last second Sparrows?

Here are the modifications i applied to "my" DB (in fact, HCDB-050124 on my HDD). I verified sources, at least, twice, most figures comes from Jane's publications, H4 or real life professionnams working with this plane. U can see the loadouts i designed for my own usage here, feel free to use it They are based from real life rafale's validation videos, pilots indications and Jane's publications. I used the rule i exposed on this forum (loadout multipliers) to match as close as possible the effects on range and DATA that specific loadouts can have. http://ibelgique.ifrance.com/jansfiles/har..._C_loadouts.htm http://ibelgique.ifrance.com/jansfiles/har.…

I'm messing with various time period databases. I know the Radar Cross Section is a doubtful issue, stealth topic aside, but I see very great differences in RCS in WWII DB and the other DBs. As example, P-3 Orion and B-17 Superfortress are planes of very similar size, P-3 in ordinary DB as a RCS of 159, and in WWII DB we find: B-17 RCS=86, and B-29 RCS=88 (And all these planes are with propellors, I know a rotating propellor has a big RCS), Or in smaller planes, P-51 Mustang RCS=70, and the similar size A-37 Dragonfly RCS=137, and I see these are consistent differences between the DBs. Why these enormous differences ? Also, I don't know if it's a relationated is…

I've encountered the L-39 Albatros in at least a couple of scenarios. One MEDC and one WestPac. In both of these games, I have found that the plane is pretty stealthy. I mean that it appears at about the same range that I would expect a Stealth bomber to show up - visual range. Could you possibly take another look at the RCS value for this plane? I can understand if it is a small plane, but my experience has it virtually invisible.

I'm returning to HCE after sometime away - I had created a new database and still have the res and rsr files but lost everything else in a hard drive failure - how do I access the data to start modifying it again. Sorry for the bone question but old age is setting in. [CV32: Edited your title to help others in a similar dilemma to more easily find the subject matter of your thread]

Here are the facts: I learned just yesterday that refuel pods are just an interface, between the "tanker" and the "client", that allow to ransfer the fuel contained in the tanker fuel tanks to the client. Before yesterday, i was conviced that refuel store just transfered the fuel that it contain, nothing more. So, since i know this fact, i'm asking myself if, in Tanker configuration, drop tanks shouldn't be considered as "fuel store" only for "clients", not for the tanker, since, AFAIK, it's almost impossible into Harpoon (any version) to have an accurate fuel store management. (basically sahring fuel between tanker and "clients" and update the tanker's radius)…

Hello, there are several loadouts named the same. Several ATA, unguided, guided, etc. How can I change in the platform editor the names of these loadouts? To get ATA, ATA-2, ATA-3...? Is these loadouts related with the AI? I thought to rename some ATA into Interceptor-4, Interceptor-5...?

Some notes on Swedish airforce in the DB: Note that there where few things more secret than missile loadouts and missile guidance in Swedish armed forces. I know the original rb24 (AIM-9b) bought from the US where eventually upgraded to AIM-9P and Swedish defence industry messed around with fuzes too but have not found any dates. As the designation Rb74 where used for both AIM-9L and AIM-9M (or atleast in some official text) JA37 (1979-98) Should not be able to use AMRAAM, the Standard load out would been 2 Skyflash and 4 AIM-9J/P (Rb 24J) / AIM-9L(Rb 74) (two of each where common on photos) from 1987 add 2 Flare dispensers (BOY401) without losing othe…

Question: The time needed for repairs can be modified in the database? It depends on the type of unit / structure? or the type of damage? (Good idea for the "wish list", structures or bases for repairs "fast" units ...) tanks

Played the NACV scenario #15 "Retreat". The Soviet unit CVHG Baku has mount/weapon mismatch. The SA-N-9 launchers has been given SS-N-9 Siren anti-ship missiles. Edit - Also the Badger-J doesn't have any jammers in it's loadout (like how the EA-6B has them). So it becomes useless for anything except providing a surface search radar backup to the Bear D. And the Nimrod ASW plane having sidewinders is making the AI use it for intercepting air units even though it's the ASW loadout. It's going for them even if that air unit is a 12 plane squadron of Flankers. They're probably better off with those removed from the ASW loadout.

  17. Brad, Thanks. Nice additions. Just came up with a few ideas for the next version... * SSN 23 Jimmy Carter (after modifications for carrying special ops teams, etc.; see HazeGray for details) * Variant Israeli Dolphin submarine...there are rumors she can carry nuclear-tipped land attack cruise missiles. Why not include a version that does? * Carrier-capable version of the A-4M Skyhawk * My copy of Jane's ('91-'92) says the Super Etendard (France) was capable of carrying nuclear bombs AND the French nuclear standoff missile (separate loadouts) and could also carry Magic AA missiles; might be interesting to the give the French a carrier-based nuclear…

The other day (while washing dishes) I wondered about how far back reverse compatibility of Data Bases is necessary. Does a current database need to be reverse compatible to before the last commercial full release? The 'new' (post EC2003) battlesets that use external databses have now been around for quite some time. When a new release appears necessary databases for the older scenarios could perhaps be provided separately in a 'legacy' section or the like. At some stage we might see built in scenarios from the WWs or cold war period so some way of organising multiple databases would need to be built into the setup anyway. If at every commercial release the data base co…

In HCDB 080406, I note that the RF-5S Tigereye from Singapore seems to have the loadouts for an attack aircraft, rather than a recon bird. As I was hoping to use it as a stand-in for South Korea's RF-5, which is not in the DB, in a Second Korean War scenario, I was wondering if it might be given a recon loadout, as well or instead? Thank ye ...
