	Hello all. I would like to start the discussion about how we can together find a way to bring the HCDB2 up to date. I could provide a long list of platforms that need to be created or updated, but that's not a good use of space here right now. And players creating and sharing their own databases "willy nilly" will confuse the process and intimidate newer players. So I think one centrally administrated database remains the only solution. The big question is who would be willing to take this on? Brad, I cannot thank you enough for all the work you have put in over the years, and I understand that you probably won't want to do this.  But as military technology advances, this game with the current database will start to become irrelevant for current events. And this brings on an even bigger question, how many people still want to play this game? Will it be worth the effort? So Brad, Tony, Don, Enrique, what's your advice? And to all of the newer players, and ones that don't post much, would you approve? Let's get talking.

<p>
	Edit -
</p>

<p>
	Also the Badger-J doesn't have any jammers in it's loadout (like how the EA-6B has them). So it becomes useless for anything except providing a surface search radar backup to the Bear D.
</p>

<p>
	And the Nimrod ASW plane having sidewinders is making the AI use it for intercepting air units even though it's the ASW loadout. It's going for them even if that air unit is a 12 plane squadron of Flankers. They're probably better off with those removed from the ASW loadout.

	Working on developing my first battleset, which includes modifying the database to include current weapons, aircraft, etc.  Pretty confident I am modeling aircraft, ships and subs consistent with the game rules/metrics.  Also figured out how to manage mounts and weapons.  However, struggling to find a good source for how to assign damage points to weapons, namely missiles.  Found historical methods for calculating such as warhead weight x 0.2 = DP.  Also found a NPS thesis (circa 2009) "A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF COMMERCIAL OFF-THE SHELF NAVAL SIMULATIONS AND CLASSIC OPERATIONS RESEARCH MODELS" that runs through various parameters and assumptions.  Do recognize there are several variables that go into calculating the base lethality of a missile and there are also several factors that affect the PH and end result on the target on impact/detonation.  However, all read - not sure I have a good reference for assigning DP and PH.
</p>

<p>
	For facilities, can't really find a rationale after reviewing the existing database.  Found an old reference that equates facility damage point assignment to the number of 1000lb bombs it would take to make the facility inoperable.  However, when I look at assigned damage points in the database, seems there is a pretty large spread.  For example, looking at airfields with 1 runway that can handle VLarge aircraft, damage point assignments ranged between 2500-9000.
</p>

<p>
	Any guidance or rules of thumb?
</p>

	We have two main database authors, CV32 and Divefreak who have led two streams of platform database curating for public consumption.  As you can see from this sub-forum's threads, neither of those masters are active presently which severely limits the attractiveness of the game to scenario authors.  For many, if they can't put the latest platforms in a scenario, they will turn to a different simulation.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Being inclined toward writing code I tend to try to solve with technology, in this case writing a new Platform Editor (PE) and the littany of associated changes to the other game components.
</p>

<p>
	Benefits:
</p>

<p>
	1. Make the number of entries in the database nearly limitless, up from roughly 4096 per annex today.  This 4096 limit, despite being doubled from 2048 is a limit that has been reached in the newer databases.
</p>

<p>
	2. Eliminate dependency on Microsoft Access which few people have and despite free MS Access Runtime being available, installation of it is fraught with difficulties (mismatched Office versions breaking other apps, Access not working, etc.).
</p>

<p>
	3. Allow additional fields and features.  Think finally being able to associate URLs to photos, articles, videos to a platform's record.
</p>

<p>
	4. Allow more collaborative editing with attribution.  User 1 creates a platform, User 2 makes it faster, User 3 gives it more damage points.  The scenario author could choose any of the 3 versions of the platform and you could track back to see the platform's editing lineage.  Lots of questions and potential complexity here if an author wants to share a platform for use but not allow further modification and other similar use-cases.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Challenges:
</p>

<p>
	1. Would want to start with a web-based editor for simplicity meaning the website would have to be alive and working for database editing.  The exported database could still be distributed as a file so would not be lost to websites crumbling.  We would also use an open format (JSON, XML, ...) where someone could more easily write another editor as compared to the current binary format.
</p>

<p>
	2. Not a small undertaking, other flashier changes would be put on hold for let's say much of 2022.
</p>

<p>
	3. We'd need a authentication provider.  It is easy enough to use the forum software here but worth a discussion if people would prefer using a different identity provider (Google, Facebook, etc.)
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thoughts?  What additional information do you need in order to formulate thoughts?
</p>

<p>
	At aircraft entry, we have a slot called ECM. Is it compatible with ECM pod.

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Do we get a total of 30% ECM (10%+20%)?

	This is different if we have two ECM pods (20%*2=40%) that we know we can't have.

	I have been playing with some extended range naval guns and found in the HCDB2 DB three versions of Vulcano extended range 5" munition.
</p>

<p>
	see <a href="https://electronics.leonardo.com/documents/16277707/0/Vulcano+127.pdf?t=1671440934942" rel="external nofollow">https://electronics.leonardo.com/documents/16277707/0/Vulcano+127.pdf?t=1671440934942</a>
</p>

<p>
	In HC terms two are Guns, one is a missile (speed about 2200 kts). When I used the missile I thought 'wow, so slow', but then when I started to think about it the speed was quite correct and more realistic than the instant gun hit (or miss), so I started to wonder for long range artillery should we use 'missile' and not 'gun' weapons?
</p>

<p>
	I'm interested in the new Kingfisher concept for ASW including the delivery of small depth charge and sonar buoys and thinking if use 'missile' then could use an asroc style weapon.
</p>
