From The Mark Why Stricter Gun Control Wouldn't Make Us Safer By Gary Mauser Professor Emeritus, Simon Fraser University First Posted: Jan 20 2011 07:32 AM Incidents like the Tucson, Arizona shooting raise questions about how society can protect itself from dangerous individuals, but it's a mistake to think of all gun owners as potential hazards. The irrational shooting in Tucson, Arizona by Jared Lee Loughner has shocked many people. As more facts emerge, it is increasingly evident that the attack was not politically motivated, as some had claimed earlier, and was carried out by a man who was mentally disturbed. But even though Loughner had had several …

I thought this was a really well-written piece, good patriotic stuff as some of us remember that fateful day. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2010/1207/Pea...December-7-1941

Friends, As some of you know, I do a bit of writing for Steve Jackson Games. The new version of GURPS has a wonderfully streamlined system for vehicles, very useful for GURPS itself, but some of the statistics are a little hard to track down for those of us trying to write game versions of various real world vehicles. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good sources for the following information... For ships and submarines: 1) Although it is not too hard to find the standard displacements and full load displacements for warships, for a lot of cargo ships, they only list tonnage (which is a measure of volume, not actual mass). While I am sure using to…

Wasn't sure which Forum would be best to place this question in either so here you go.

In some regards a game like WitP but that can actually be finished if you play the whole war http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2520893 Let me know what you think; I've been watching the game's forum on Matrix's site and think the support provided by the developer is unbelievable and something for Harpooners to sit up and say hmm about...

I'm kinda surprised - especially given our European members and the American success thus far - that no one has mentioned the World Cup. In any event, in recognition of Sunday's UK vs Germany game, I thought I would bring up ...

This morning I ran my first half marathon, see me (7216) starting to wave at my family in the attached photo. I might post more when the official race photos come out. Still can't say that I'd want to run a full marathon; running for fun is great, but competitive runners you have my respect but not my envy! Time: 2:03:25, 9:26 pace Don Thomas, see the other waving person? Doing my best to satisfy that list of things I'd like (smart - check, rich - compared to me without a doubt, good looking - yes though running pics aren't the best examples).

Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1), the old STANAVFORLANT, will be in town over the weekend. This will include the flagship, the Danish Absalon class command and support vessel HDMS Absalon (L16); the German Bremen class frigate FGS Karlsruhe (F212); the US Perry class frigate USS Boone (FFG-28); and the German Rhon (Type 704A) class replenishment oiler FGS Spessart (A1443). They have been joined by the Canadian Halifax class frigate HMCS Toronto (FFH 333). If I do get a chance to get down to the waterfront, I will be particularly interested in seeing Absalon, but even if I do not, I am told that another of our members here might get the opportunity.

1. While playing ANW against Herman Hum, he told me that there was a torpedo heading for my last submarine. I said that I'd believe it when I "heard" it. Then I got wiped out by a nuclear "Starfish". But it was still a draw. 2. Witnessing a Ka-25 helicopter help take out two submarines in "Surge into the Barents". Please, add your own.
