Sometime this weekend I'm going to attempt the upgrade of our forum software. The site/forum may be down for a number of hours (lets hope not days) during the process and we will lose our fantastic pastel blue theming. We will also lose the Issue Tracker until I can cook up an alternative but the existing data will not be lost. The upgrade will give us nothing we need and many things we'd like! The upgrade after that should give us some fantastic tools to help integrate the HC game with the HarpGamer site.

  9. Hey 'Pooners, I'm doing research on the E2C Hawkeye and any limitations that it may have, specifically smaller targets on the water. Can the radar see smaller, sleeker yet fast moving fiberglass ships aproximately 50 feet in length moving at 100 knots? Any help is appreciated. Thanks to all, Steve

A week and a half ago I happily became a married man. We left on our honeymoon to Hawaii early the next morning. The entire time was spent on Oahu and we had a great time together on the north shore and visiting Pearl Harbor. While sunning on the beach the show was: P-3 Orion Coast Guard C-130 variant Seahawk of some kind Coast Guard Dauphin At Pearl Harbor the show (besides the WWII attractions): F-22s in open air revetments F-22 in the air with USS Missouri in the foreground, F-22 doing what looked like a wicked sliding turn at low level, something you'd only want to do with an excess of power F-15s on the ground 4 x Burkes! (so many in one spot was a …

It's summer (well almost officially). I'm going a break for a month or so. Hopefully, in that time I can craft the first couple BRICS scenarios and get them ready for posting, along with working in the yard and spending time with the family after work. NNSotD will be back, watch for it in August or September.

Like date and time math, calculating distance is not as easy as one would think. So pull up your inner game designer or mathematician or GIS analyst and help out a fellow (me). Issues: The Earth is a spheroid, not flat, not a sphere. The platforms in our game do insane things like fly above the surface (more specifically above sea level) and sail below sea level (and if you get fancy some sail above sea level). Changing altitude uses or produces excess energy. Just something to think about. In HC distances are calculated most often along Geodesic (which will stuff into the wrong but well known term Great Circle) routes that place the two platforms …

I gave a presentation similar to this to a coworker earlier this week and recorded another go at it last night for 'fun'. I suggest switching to the higher quality 720p so that you can actually see the screen text. This dips very lightly into Assembly programming and looking at high level language conversion into the opcodes and assembly instructions that the x86 processor understands. Part 1 Part 2 Warning: May put you to sleep!

So I'm re-reading Red Storm Rising, the book that got me into Harpoon. I'll be posting some thoughts here. First one - am I right in thinking that people were initially wary of Mikhail Gorbachev when he become General Secretary of the CPSU? The GenSec in this novel is described as a former agriculture minister, which is what Gorby was.
