I've been pushing cardboard lately. Using the long defunct Game Designers Workshop Assault series. Basic NATO-WP fare. Units are platoons and sections. Hex scale is 250m per hex. Turns are 5min per turn. Mid 80's US, GB, FRG, Dutch, and soviets are all represented. Armor, Infantry, on and off board artillery, transport and attack helicopters, close air support, air defense, combat engineering all represented. The following is a cross post of mine from CSW. OK, The venerable US Team Bravo +, 9th Tank Bn, 91st Recon Company, Alpha Battery 5th Artillery Bn, (1 bty of S-152 "off map"),and some assorted air defense assets (a ZSU-23/4 and SA-9) met again on Maps …

The way the NY Rangers played this regular season, up to the Olympic break, rejuvenated the franchise after failing to make the playoffs for more years than I care to remember. The lock-out/strike forced the Rangers to go with more of a youth movement than I believe management ever thought possible here in New York. We'll have to see how this project proceeds next season and beyond. The Rangers fate this year seems all but certain. The NJ Devils have outplayed the Rangers in every facet of the game. The 2005-2006 Devils will truely be a handful for their second round opponent and a valid contender for Lord Stanley's Cup. Thoughts,...how your team is faring?

  8. From Macleans May 15, 2005 'We were abandoned' An elite unit of snipers went from standouts to outcasts -- victims, many say, of a witch hunt driven by jealousy and fear MICHAEL FRISCOLANTI Lying low beside the rifle, his stomach touching the ground, Cpl. Rob Furlong concentrated hard on his breathing. In, out. In, out. In, out. Deep, but not too deep. Slow, but not too slow. The tiniest twitch -- a heavy exhale, perhaps, or a breath held one second too long -- could jerk his weapon ever so slightly, turning a sure hit into a narrow miss. In the sniping world, where one shot should always equal one kill, steady breathing is just as crucial as steady a…

Happy Easter everyone! The feast and celebration were great here. The deacon at church had a very sour look all mass, I'll assume he was tired from the Easter Vigil service... On a more secular topic, check out the Peeps contest from this area, the top finishers are being displayed at a very real museum on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus and I hope to make it there to see them. I've decided to revive the trivia questions that I used to post to the hull mailing list. I don't know how often they'll pop up here, but every now and then I'll post a trivia question for you to consider. Its pretty tough to come up with some challenging trivia for the die-hard types that frequent the Harpoon community, especially with the advent of powerful search engines like Google. But, anyway, we'll give it a go ... Here's the first: Trivia # 1: There is believed to be only one event captured in a photograph where a Medal of Honor was actually being earned. Who earned it ? Have fun.
