If we happy go lucky Canadians really wanted to conduct cross border espionage, it would be via the beer and hockey markets, not our funny looking currency. P.S. Don't be so paranoid ! I usually am pretty successful in staying away from topics relating to opinions of events currently unfolding in the middle east, more spcifically Iraq. Please feel free to either read the article, or if I have strayed too far, please delete or lock this post. I have posted it since I feel that the author takes quite a professional risk in laying out what troubles his conscience. Read article here

  5. Citadel to put locks on all barracks rooms The Associated Press Posted : Monday Apr 23, 2007 10:23:59 EDT CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Citadel will install locks on all cadet rooms by next semester, a break with tradition that stems from concerns about safety in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings. Male cadets have no locks on their barracks doors in keeping with the school’s honor code. Female cadets can lock their doors from the inside. Now, all cadets will get keys to lock their doors from the outside. “This decision in no way compromises the honor system. The personal standards that a cadet does not lie, cheat or steal nor tolerate those who do rema…

Australians puzzled by 'ghost ship' Yacht found floating with engine running, food on table, but no crew Reuters Updated: 5:39 a.m. ET April 20, 2007 SYDNEY, Australia - Australian rescuers were on Friday trying to solve the “Mary Celeste” style mystery of a yacht found floating off the coast with its engine running, food on its table ready to eat, but no crew. The 36-foot catamaran was found 80 nautical miles off Townsville on the northeast coast, but there was no sign of the three crewmen who had set sail from Queensland state bound for Australia’s west coast on Sunday. “What they found was a bit strange in that everything was normal, there was just no sign…

I recently submitted an article found in a recent copy of Proceedings. The USNI website has many articles posted, but it seems to require membership to access them Is it worthwhile to post these articles if not many people can access them? Or is it ok to post copies of website content when there are such restrictions in place. It the active readers of this site are members, the point is mute.

New York Times April 10, 2007 Pg. B8 Intrepid To Be Dry-Docked For Repairs To Hull By Patrick McGeehan The aircraft carrier Intrepid, the floating military museum, is scheduled to move again early today, but this short voyage should be much smoother than the ship’s difficult departure from Manhattan last year. The Intrepid, which has been tied up at a cruise-ship mooring in Bayonne, N.J., since December, is bound for a two-month stay in an adjacent dry dock. This will be the first time the 41,000-ton ship has been out of water in 30 years, according to Bill White, president of the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. A team of tugboats will push the …

  12. So, after 35 years as host of that venerable game show, "The Price is Right", Bob Baker is retiring in May. The field of candidates is narrowing, with the buzz in Hollywood indicating that Mark Steines, George Hamilton and Mario Lopez are top contenders, together with Todd Newton, John O'Hurley and Mike Richards. But now, with the end of the debacle of the British Royal Navy sailors and Royal Marines held in Iran, a new contender has emerged: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The return of the 15 British military personnel was a "gift" to the British people from Iran. They even departed on a first class British Airways flight, complete with new suits and othe…

This is an invitation to everyone here to come up with suggestions of global or strategic implications that would halt, or severely limit a 2007+ conflict in the Persian Gulf. The United Nations comes to mind, as well as a collapse of will in the Gulf Cooperation Council as a whole or independent members, and/or conflicts or other crisis’ occurring out of theater such as a PRC-Taiwan or North Korea-South Korea situations heating up. Even the US congress could potentially cut off funding Each Gulf Strike edition had it’s own diplomatic or global event phase where at the beginning of a game turn a D10 was rolled, on the result of a “1â€, another D10 is rolle…

Herman pointed out to me last night on the chat that "Sortie" was a noun and that I was yet another American "butchering" the English language. Yes H, it is a noun but, per dictionary.com, can also be used correctly as an intransitive verb (see below "sortieing"). sor·tie (sôr'tÄ“, sôr-tÄ“') Pronunciation Key n. An armed attack, especially one made from a place surrounded by enemy forces. A flight of a combat aircraft on a mission. intr.v. sor·tied, sor·tie·ing, sor·ties To go on a sortie. From National Defense February 2007 Defense Dept. lacks clearinghouse for military videogames, say analysts By Grace Jean As the military begins to rely more on the so-called “serious” games to ready its fighting forces, the vendors selling the high-tech virtual trainers are voicing frustration with the Defense Department’s cumbersome acquisition process. The government’s contracting cycle is so resource-intensive and lengthy that small game developers really have a hard time with it, especially if they don’t understand the acquisition process, said Brian Williams, research staff member at the Institute for Defense Analyses, which conducted a study for the P…
