What is a Pooner? A person who gives of their time, talents, and riches to the Harpoon community. An award given yearly to recognize the efforts of the above. The yearly Pooner award recognizes extraordinary effort often within (but not restricted to) a single 12 month period. Vote for Pooner of the Year! See past winners at http://www.harpoonpages.com/pooner2011.htm If you are banned here at HarpGamer, e-mail me (tonye@harpgamer.com) your nomination and vote to have them entered. Please do take the time to vote, even if you are pretty new to the game. Bonus points if you expound upon how great your choice for the 2012 Pooner is and why!

I saw this on Youtube and thought it was cute... The song, "Virgin's High" is the theme to anime called Sky Girls, so it seems appropriate that someone used it as the soundtrack for images of the Japanese Air Force. Sky Girls actually contains some pretty good flying scenes, although some of the tactics employed against the giant tentacled horrors are rather bizarre. What is not bizarre is that, when monsters attack, and exotic technology is Earth's only hope, it is completely reasonable to have the priceless prototypes armed and piloted by Japanese schoolgirls. Everyone knows that's just common sense! Here's the actual opening of the anime, in case an…

As my available time decreases I'll be pushing for all of you to make better and better issue reports. Here is a fantastic article on the topic. http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/fog0000000029.html I'm still not happy with the Issue Tracker here and still have a couple hundred issues to revive from the old forum format but the contents of a good issue report remain the same as they have for over a decade. Thanks all, with luck there will be a nice new stable beta for HC posted tonight in large part in response to an issue report posted last week.

Not political intention here, the link is only because shows a funny cartoon of a Ticonderoga-class CG. I think we can post other similar things on this thread: http://theothermccain.com/2012/06/11/ticonderoga-classy/

The Russian Navy's sail training ship Kruzenshtern is visiting our harbor this week. Haven't found time to get downtown for a closer look or pics, so this will have to do ... I understand that she is one of the larger 'tall ships' still around.

A trivia question for all of you out there... What 1961 movie features the F 346 Flora of the Royal Danish Navy? Hint: A line from the move is "There is no reason to be afraid. The military has everything in hand." (This, of course, pretty much guarantees that everything will go pear-shaped almost immediately.)
