Best version of Harpoon

New to Harpoon and Harpgamer.

Just wondering what the major difference is betwen Harpoon Commanders Edition and Harpoon 3 ANW?

Might be a "Which is better coke or Pepsi" question but....

I don't wanna to buy both :) or do I ????

Used to play Harpoon Classic years ago and want a new version....so.......

Wasn't sure which Forum would be best to place this question in either so here you go.

Coke vs Pepsi is about right, by all reports. ANW is supposedly better at small scenarios, HC rules for major fleet actions. IMO the UI is friendlier on HC, but head-to-head play is only available on ANW. Coke vs Pepsi ... :D

PS --- this thread, about the upcoming release of new versions of both games, may be of interest to you: http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=10010

Well said Warhorse. This is definitely one of the more civil forums in which to ask that question but as a result you'll get some of the more boring answers too. Both games are good at what they do and they do similar things. Warhorse hit the high points for sure.

I have both, and I have to agree with Warhorse as well. The only thing I'd add is that if you have absolutely no idea what you're doing, HCE is probably a little easier to learn the basic mechanics of playing. Winning, on the other hand, is an ongoing learning experience with both. At least it has been for me.

Good point about the forum, Tony. I've seen discussions elsewhere that'd probably have come to blows if held face to face in the corner bar. Some cats get extremely passionate about their opinions one way or the other.

Thanks for the input Harp Warriors.

Now have HCE and am slaying enemies of the Free World :)

I'll be hitting the Dew staying up late I'm sure but then again I never have intentionally ordered a "Rum and Pepsi"

Thanks again!
