  1. You made it most of the way! I'd say this scenario requires the most complicated setup (download scenario, database, AND battleset). The piece you are missing is the battleset itself, http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...mp;showfile=271 Note the different map colors, that will help you select the proper battleset in the list of battlesets. One other download that you'll probably like is the picturefile, http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...mp;showfile=328 . If you are a big user of the platform display grabbing the picture file will reduce the chance of crashing due to absentee images that the database expects. Thanks for giving it a try, let us know if you need more detail.
  2. Yes, you are talking any generic virtualization approach. In your case Virtual PC but it could just as easily be VMWare or qemu or virtualbox, etc. It is extremely rare for a person to have extra Windows licenses sitting around, not to mention that legality requires a retail or volume license in that case, OEM licenses do not apply, further limiting the audience. Then the person has to have the technical acumen to do the installation. By that time the audience is narrowed to the people who have already implemented virtualization and aren't clamoring for a 32-bit SE because they've 'seen the light' already. I am talking about a specific solution, Windows XP Mode that includes all of the necessary licensing. Windows XP Mode is either a download (Win 7 Pro/Ent/Ult) or anytime upgrade away (Win 7 Home) for any Windows 7 computer, at a cost less than buying a Windows XP license and drop-dead simple setup, the latter part being key to people clamoring for a 32-bit SE, they want convenience and Windows XP Mode offers that in a way your virtualization solution does not.
  3. I could get behind that, that's potentially a big step up in initial cost though from low/no cost veteran platform with surplus support equipment assumedly available.
  4. Interesting article, especially how they bend it to suggest Australia should acquire its own nukes. I certainly wouldn't complain if they did, some old 688 boats perhaps as a start
  5. Doesn't look like that was even a close call, nailed it good.
  6. At least someone is flying them. What a low blow for a Monday
  7. Thanks Pete!
  8. CyberBoard, a free tool for aiding PBEM games. I haven't tried it out as yet but thought I'd share anyway in case someone else has words to say about this one. http://cyberboard.brainiac.com/screensh.html
  9. Fantastic, I really like WiG craft, maybe even a little more than hydrofoils.
  10. I'm still very much liking the Rafale and Gripen NG for every aspiring player in the EU backyard that isn't a strict ally of the US. So that'd work well for Libya, and when it comes time we can see how the F-16s out of Italy do at knocking them down. Why do I like Rafale and Gripen NG? Lots of punch in a small package. They give up some range to gain that smaller size but they should be extremely capable aircraft and they can carry up to date weaponry and have sensors that enable precise delivery of that weaponry.
  11. Little boys and their toys I tell ya. http://thenextweb.com/me/2012/01/18/everyt...acker-struggle/?
  12. I'll take it down in a few days since it is such a large file but it should be attached to this message for now.
  13. Thanks Brad, finally took this for a try. The scenario is short enough and small enough to play in less than an hour. I spread it out and used a couple of hours at lower time compression. Like Don I took a more active approach that real life might dictate and even put a couple of Exocet missiles into an unsuspecting ASW ship from the Rubis. Alas a Tango used Starfish to sink the Rubis. Providence sent it to the bottom while taking a short break from mine laying. Fun scenario!

Very nice, thanks for sharing. At least you didn't have a bridge to cross, a traffic jam severely affected one of my TacOps adventures.
  15. See the Ares link at the top of the post.
  16. Just to clarify, we don't have anything at all to do with Matrix download speeds. The only downloads can have any effect on are ones from harpgamer.com. I've had my own run-ins with downloads from Matrix but one way or another always eventually got through.
  17. Ok, that first stage made me laugh, interesting structures atop it. I assume that never was a missile part of any kind?
  18. Thread pinned, hopefully that doesn't jinx the periodic posting, thanks again Greg!
  19. I'd guess you are pushing your luck to say the days of 500,000 boots on the ground are over. I sincerely hope you are correct but I doubt it. Hehe, I'd like to see LCACs landing Marines and Tanks in HC, never mind H3! Heck, I'd like to see Amphibs launching the LCACs.

Congratulations to the new Pooner! Enrique Mas for 2011 Pooner: http://www.harpoonpages.com/pooner2011.htm Thank you to those who voted and everyone else who contributes to the community!
  21. I started one of my Christmas presents last night, Larry Bond's Red Dragon Rising: Edge of War by Larry Bond & Jim DeFelice. So far so good
  22. Yes, look at that huge slung load under the MH-60S? Maybe they are delivering little red books?
  23. For those of you who want to use the Scenario Editor and have Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium version there is a sale right now to do an anytime upgrade to Win 7 Pro which then includes a Windows XP mode license. Then you can run the SE in the XP virtual machine. The anytime upgrades don't have you reinstall programs or anything http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16832116774 use promo code: EMCNJND49 to bring it down to $60.
  24. Yes, keep em coming Greg! Brad isn't asking for sources to be a pain, we really do get asking by content providers to remove information and/or provide only a short synopsis with links. I don't much enjoy going through that process. Thankfully I've only had to go through the process a handful of times (so far). Looking on the dark side, if SOPA passes it is most likely this and every fan support site will at best become fully moderated and at worse just give up and shut down.

A great look at USA vs. China in diorama form! https://arherring.wordpress.com/tag/us-military/
