Two more approaches you can try while waiting for Russell: 1. Edit harpoon3.ini and change the line MouseSpeed=1 to MouseSpeed=1024 . Save the file then try the game. If it works, you can keep adjusting the value until it works in a way you like. Smaller numbers mean faster mouse. Usually a value of 1 or 2 is optimal. 2. Run the game with as little display hardware acceleration as possible. a. Switch to a basic Windows Theme, see b. Set the properties of the harpoon3.exe to match the attached screenshot.

Thanks guys though I'll ask for more votes and fewer drive-bys . In case you missed the subtle hint, we'll welcome non-monetary help with the laundry list of services enumerated that I can do but that take away from my Harpoon coding & support time.
  3. I must say I don't quite understand this supposed Russian financial squeeze. The price of oil continues to climb, that means more dineros for Russia. Sure their own fuel costs rise but really, it should be a huge net gain. Czar Putin (does have a nice ring to it) just has to hope the military in his pocket can trump the proletariat masses yearning for iPads.

Two things I would try, neither is likely to help... 1) Try a lower screen resolution on your computer like 1600 x anything. What screen resolution are you running? My left screen is 1280 x 1024, center is 1920 x 1080, and right is 1920 x 1080. Normally I run H3 on the right-hand screen. 2) Uninstall any software that came with the mouse so that you are using the bare Windows mouse driver. Third, you might try contacting Russell or Don Gilman, can't say I've seen mouse issues in 3.10. Final thought, make sure you applied the update via the check for updates mechanism or by downloading from Matrix member's area.
  5. Well, first, I have to ask - did you? (I assume you're running 2011.011 with the iterative saving command line. I ran the scenario using 2009.064). The file was sent to me (yay!) but the iterative saving was not used (boo). Still, haven't had a chance to look at the save but will tonight (yay for Friday!).
  6. Thanks Brad, I always pictured the Rafale as a much smaller bird.

HarpGamer was founded early in 2005 by four of us Harpooners on $4/month hosting using commercial forum software. The hosting and software costs were split between the four of us equally. Labor costs for backups have been shouldered by my company and in the last few years in part by those of us still contributing financially. The number of financial contributors has decreased to two since 2005. Our current service costs are US $265 per year and we expect that to increase as our forum continues to grow and require more processing power and more sophisticated backup schemes. That number does not include reasonable renumeration for the labor to execute backups and site maintenance. To that end we're wondering what you are willing to contribute besides your visits to the site and the posts that you make? We've crafted a few questions in the poll but are very interested in hearing suggestions and trying to answer any questions you have. Services for which we have a desire and no funding: Graphic Design for the upgrade to newer forum software PHP/MySQL development Migrating Issue Tracking database & customization to newer forum software Developing new services based on the Downloads area (creating an XML feed for the HC Launcher, enabling seemless download of battlesets, databases, and scenarios) Developing new services based on the database requests (to enable a client application that shows the Harpoon database designer a more useable list of requests as well as change the status of requests) Developing new services to aid in HC gameplay information sharing such as scenario results, weapons expenditure lists, etc. [*]Creation of a Facebook presence [*]Creation of a Twitter presence What I do know is that HarpGamer isn't going away anytime soon no matter the outcome of this discussion.

Frans, is this both in windowed and fullscreen or only one of them? Are you using a special mouse like a gaming mouse? If so, which one? Anything else special that might help us?
  12. Chris, welcome back! I'm planning on putting together some kind of guide, be it a video on youtube or a PDF document, in the next 24 hours.
  13. Color me jealous! Range, power, 2 sets of eyes, a potty, what more could you want? Well, besides swing wings and Tomcat in the name...
  14. That's pretty smart thinking, nicely done!
  15. You can get the HUD 4 1.0 version from http://diabetesdiplomats.kintera.org/faf/d...supid=339415034 You can also use the HUD 4 1.1 beta version from harpgamer. To play one of the scenarios, make the HUD-4 the active database, then load the scenario you downloaded in the scenario editor, save the scenario, exit the scenario editor, then fire up the game and play the scenario. Bit of a pain
  16. A question I can answer . If you are familiar with Windows Explorer, find your H3 directory and run the H3Launcher.exe program (I'm not on a computer with Harpoon right now so I may not have the name exactly right). There is a display tab where you can increase the size of the main game window for the next launch. Most experienced players always launch the game from this program.

Hehe, a quirk that illuminated a bug, that led to an enhancement and a fix. The ge.log in future builds will show the database version the scenario was created with (what we saw in the log posted to this thread) as well as the commondb database version in use. The bug was that the RSR file created timestamp listing was actually showing the RES file created timestamp, fixed that for the next build.
  18. Any chance the USCG icebreaker under study might be a new class of icebreaker, larger? I didn't find any hints during a few Google searches. The Healy has already been around for 14 years so isn't exactly a new design. Thanks!
  19. Good point, a tactic a few players have taken. The SE doesn't need much horsepower and can easily run on an older XP or even Windows 2000 machine though the off-lease XP or Vista approach is imho infinitely more sane if you are buying a machine.

[emphasis mine] !?!? , that is an impressively old database.

Try deleting the ExportDLLs\SensorVisualH3.dll and firing up the game again. What effect did that have? Please also tell me a scenario where this behavior can be seen. Thanks!
  22. Better, but still no excuse for previous namings
  23. I'm firmly with Blackfive on this one. If you absolutely have to name a ship after someone alive, and I agree with wombat that it is a poor practice, at least choose someone with a personal Navy connection. How about all of those who have died in service of the Navy? Sad, so sad.
  24. Welcome back to the game(s)! First the quick answers as I see them: 1. There is no alternative to the 16-bit scenario editor (SE). 2. The quick and present answer is that running the SE on machines with a 64-bit copy of Windows 7 isn't all that difficult. It is immeasurably easier than running it on Vista x64, XP x64, Windows 2000 x64. Since Windows 7 makes virtualization via Windows XP Mode available to the masses, the need to port/re-write the SE to run on 64-bit versions of Windows became almost moot. In the Vista days a 32-bit SE was a much higher priority for me since there was no easy alternative solution. It is much cheaper for 1,000 players to each buy or upgrade to Windows 7 Pro to get XP Mode than it is to fund development of a 32-bit SE. More detail : . A true and astute observation. It was also intentional that the HC (Harpoon Classic) SE did not receive as much development time since 2001 as the GE (game engine/winharp32.exe). HC2002 was the first community effort to revive development of the game and the focus was to squash bugs and fix only the most glaring scenario and database issues. I became a part of that effort as a beta tester after being a fan of the game for the previous decade. HCGold came next and the focus was introducing an editable database. Again the focus was not the scenario editor though it did receive a lot of attention to be able to handle the editable database. These community-based teams have always been small. I became first an alpha-tester and then apprentice programmer for HCGold. The lead programmer was Bret McKee with Jon Reimer making the PE (Platform Editor). In other words, small teams where everyone had full-time jobs, HC was and is a hobby for those of us writing code, editing databases and supporting the game. I've long used virtualization and have never had a problem running the SE. Other features and fixes have in general weighed more heavily than bringing the SE up to date. The powers that be, here's a crude org-chart... Larry Bond (Harpoon creator, rights holder) | Chris Carlson -- Don Gilman (aka Uncle Harpoon aka Computer Harpoon rights holder) | Matrix Games -- Tony & Brad (aka CV32) | Players - Testers Bond, Carlson, and Gilman are known as the Admiralty so the next person's org chart might have all three at the top. The point is that, while Brad and I are the caretakers of HC, we are only in some ways 'powers that be'. I can't give anyone access to the source code without approval from above and there has been no interest from those parties in releasing source code. As part of Brad & my & Scott's agreement with Don Gilman I requested and received permission to expose some game data to a DLL interface which to my knowledge only I have taken advantage of so far . Tied in with the above paragraph's reasons, I'll venture that over half of the code is shared between the SE and GE so there is not a separate 16-bit and 32-bit codebase so almost all of the GE and SE code would have to be released in order to build a new SE. This is where I get rather disheartened. There is a revolving community of capable testers and scenario authors. Database editors are few and far between, we're pretty much down to Brad (with a ton of help from Enrique) since Rene moved pursuits and even then it was only two public database editors. But where are the coders? I've been open since day 1 and have encouraged interested parties in a variety of ways. The code is not available for everyone to peruse so you have to earn your way in by writing add-ons, by being the kind of tester only an experienced coder can be, by supporting the community. One person almost got access to the code after taking such a tactic but he dropped off the face of the earth. But I know it is possible, that's how I eventually got access to the code and my first contact with the team (years before getting that code access) was me being chastised for trying to participate in IRC chat. Apparently, but I'm hopeful a community organizer will wander by one day and take up the torch! Is it too small? The one programmer on the project just spent about a quarter of his Harpoon time for the week writing this one message, does that help answer your question? (and it should indicate the value that a few tech support specialists would have in freeing me up to write some code)
