Instant Action opend a scen from the red side but it choosed a scen without red orders.... Thanks Rene. I don't think it is of any consequence, that it does more than throw the player into GIUK 1.0 is quite an improvement imho.

Now that instant action has been tested to death, how about the other items, and the prior release notes that haven't had everything tested, chop chop people
  3. I'm all about Brad's explanation, I've always been fond of the pause. I suppose we could look into it at some point.

It is possible the incoming missiles were already saturated with the LR SAMs, hence the shorter range not firing if it wasn't expected they'd be needed.

Suggest you put a check in the box, start your scenario, exit the game. The next time you start the game is when Instant Action takes place.

HCE - 2007.033 ============== - Chg:0000 SE If you are drunk and do a really crazy sequence of keystrokes and mouse clicks, you can get the SE to show only water. For those episodes we've now brought back the land. (thanks Herman) - Chg:0000 SE Prevent user from opening up multiple add/edit variable start point location windows. (thanks Herman) - Chg:2064 SE Deleting Variable start points then adding more later crash, fixed. (thanks Ralf and others) - Chg:1883 SE When adding planes to a ship/base after adding the plane class scroll list would move up one slot in the list, it will no longer do so. (thanks JayMcMullan) - Chg:0000 GE Instant action checkbox will now select a random scenario from the pre-EC2000 battlesets and a random player side. (thanks pkpowers)

  9. I voted for Ralf as well this year for all of the reasons Brad lists , emphasis on the gentlemanly part. If I had a second vote, it would go to Herman for his introducing new players to the game, walking them thru Dawn Patrol more times than anyone would like to count, and extensively documenting bugs/issues with the computer Harpoon games.
  10. This is something we are tweaking for the first patch, it will be better but not perfect. This usually happens if the attacking planes do not launch all of their weapons (i.e. they think less than all weapons are required to destroy the target) or if the attacking planes also have short ranged weapons. So for the time being there isn't much that can be done about it from a scenario design perspective except focus on attack planes using loadouts that only have the long range weaponry. As for the repeat attacks it looks like Ralf has you covered, formation patrols can also drain from the pool (always figure the GE reserves 3 aircraft for each one you define in a formation patrol). So if you have a A-6 ASuW formation patrol with 2 aircraft, the GE will reserve 6 aircraft for that patrol (usually, always an exception). Those same aircraft may not launch on an attack mission if they were reserved for formation patrols. Ah, looking in the SE I see a difficulty with every 15 minutes! You will have to create four repeat attacks (the shortest interval is 1 hr between attack launches). 1. Variable Attack: Interval - 1 hr, Variance - 0 minutes; Time Delta 20 min, Variation: 0% 2. Variable Attack: Interval - 1 hr, Variance - 0 minutes; Time Delta 35 min, Variation: 0% 3. Variable Attack: Interval - 1 hr, Variance - 0 minutes; Time Delta 50 min, Variation: 0% 4. Variable Attack: Interval - 1 hr, Variance - 0 minutes; Time Delta 1 hr 5 min, Variation: 0%
  11. It sure would be nice if there was a ChangeUnitSpeed and a ChangeGroupSpeed function in the game instead of ten zillion different ways of changing speed in ten zillion different places . Wish I knew a programmer.
  12. Two different ranges are shown on purpose. One is the database listed range of the sonar, the other is a range concocted after looking at local environmental conditions in combination with the database range and assuming a particular (some medium noisy surface ship iirc). It is something I would change for an interface re-write. At present it is doing what it is supposed to do, not all that well, but it is not supposed to be displaying identical information.

  14. Tonight we'll do the scenario layout to at least get things moving. The the map in an earlier post of this thread if you are following along from home. Premise: NATO needs to get a resupply vessel (merchant) up to West Spitzbergen aka hex 0704 during the middle of a shooting war to deliver needed spares for a novel under-ice submarine detection system. Assets on both sides are thin due to the ongoing hostilities. The Warsaw Pact caught the NATO mini convoy on a satellite overpass SouthEast of Iceland. NATO orders: Proceed North to West Spitsbergen (hex 0704) via the Iceland-Faeoroes gap. Protect the merchant. Expect light but capable resistance, the lack of cloud cover during consecutive satellite passes suggests the WP may know the location and heading of TF-1. 1. There is no indication they have detected the LA SSN, TF-2. 2. Expect opposing surface forces, submarine forces are unlikely to be encountered. OOB NATO: TF-1 (hex 0720) Merchant, FFG O.H. Perry, DD Spruance TF-2 (hex 0818) SSN Los Angeles TF-3 (hex 1016) decoy force 1 TF-4 (hex 0719) decoy force 2 No other assets available WP orders: Radar satellites have detected a NATO force consisting of a merchant, Perry, and Spruance heading North, East of Iceland. Engage and destroy the encroaching force. OOB WP: TF-A (hex 1607) DDG Sovremennyy, CG Kara TF-B (hex 1109) SSN Akula TF-C (hex 1211) decoy force 1 TF-D (hex 1801) decoy force 2 No other assets available. Victory Conditions: NATO Complete Victory: One or fewer surface combatants lost, merchant must reach hex 0704. NATO Minimal Victory: Merchant reaches hex 0704 WP Complete Victory: Merchant destroyed WP Minimal Victory: Any NATO vessel destroyed No special or advanced rules in effect.
  15. No, there is no freeware version of Access but there are what are called the Access runtimes that I can set you up with, it isn't the full Access product but allows developers to distribute a functioning product even if the user doesn't have Access. Please send me a PM and I'll fill you in on how to get a copy.
  16. More excuses, at least I brought it with me to the Mayo Clinic, it is waiting right here in my bag but I think I'll have to sleep instead of play. Sid Meier's Railroads remains uninstalled too, this has got to stop!
  17. Merry Christmas to all and a happy SH3!
  18. Terry, You should have a copy of HCE (Harpoon {Classic}: Commander's Edition), Microsoft Access version 97 or newer OR the Access runtime (we can get you a copy of the runtime if you don't have Access), then follow http://www.computerharpoon.com/wiki/main/i...e=HCCE:PE_Guide If that's overwhelming, just ask and we'll help you thru it. The commondb.res file is very difficult to edit directly so that is what the PE (Platform Editor) and db_utils are for, to make editing easier, but still not for the feint of heart.
  19. A Guest tried to say on 2007/12/07 fixes the problem. tnx a lot!
  20. The latest beta versions of the game, downloadable from the General HC Beta Testing forum here contain a 32-bit scenario editor. http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/forum/33-general/ Get yourself up to speed with one of these recent builds and run Wscenedt32.exe from your game directory for the HC Scenario Editor (SE) Background: The HC Scenario Editor (SE) is a 16-bit program from the days of Windows 3.1. Windows has been a 32-bit operating system (with partial exceptions) since Windows 95 more than a decade ago. These newer Windows versions have something called the 16-bit Windows subsystem that emulates a 16-bit environment for older programs such as the SE. It is an imperfect emulation with less and less support as fewer and fewer people know the ins and outs of 16-bit programs. Facts: 64-bit versions of Windows (2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8...) will not run the SE as those versions do not have a 16-bit subsystem. If you have access to a virtual machine running 32-bit versions of Windows you can run the SE in one of those VMs. If you have Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate you can use the included/free XP mode virtual machine to run the SE. See a configuration document at If you have another Windows 7 flavor you can pay Microsoft to update to Pro or Ultimate and gain access to the XP mode virtual machine.[/url'> [url=http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=718]http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=718]Use the HCSysInfo results to help narrow down your issue and solution http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=233]Symptoms/Workarounds: (sometimes workarounds for one symptom helps others) http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=233]Symptom: All I get is a beep, no SE screen at all. Workaround: You may have the generation of short (8.3) filenames disabled for NTFS volumes. The SE depends on short filenames to work correctly. Run the utility at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=234]Symptom: The SE shows up and quickly goes away, with or without error. Workaround: Make sue you have a harpoon8.dll file, some virus scanners have been picking on it. Workaround: Make sure your virus scanner isn't blocking access to the harpoon8.dll file. Workaround: Your battleset path entry may be incorrect, run http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=228]Symptom: I get an error about autoexec.nt or config.nt. Workaround: Some viruses/spyware, not to mention antivirus scanners mess up these files and command.com. See http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6121_102-0.html?forumID=45&threadID=27291&messageID=595647#595647]Symptom: I have Avast virus scanner and trouble running the SE. Workaround: edit your config.nt file (C:\Windows\system32\config.nt in a default install), comment out the line that looks like "device=C:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\aswmonds.sys" by typing REM before it or ;. See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=7586]Failing all of that, come knock on our door with your HCSysInfo report.
  21. File Name: HC SE Short FileNames Fix File Submitter: TonyE File Submitted: 22 Dec 2007 File Updated: 22 Dec 2007 File Category: Tools/Docs This utility makes a single registry change. In HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation is set to 0 !!! You will need to restart your computer for the change to take effect. !!! !!! Uninstall HC after making this change, then re-install the game so that the short filenames are created !!! Impact: Any future files written to NTFS volumes have short filenames generated and stored in the file system. This is the default setting and is required for any reasonably complex 16-bit application to run properly. There could be a slight performance degredation if the value was previous set to 1 but it is probably imperceptible in daily use and as stated above, is the default setting in Windows versions thru Vista. 22. Akula, please do test with zones other than 1,2,3,4nm, that struck me as strange as well, no less valid but still it set off little mental alarms.
  23. Hehe Herman, you know I'd like to have the patch in your hands and would if Matrix would play along. Until then you'll have to live with the release notes (take a look Axure) http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=2395 The second post is what has been changed since the WestPac Beta After that are the changes since HCE release (2007.000).
