  1. Tony's unscientific analysis: Advantage Airbus - The better/younger plane. It will be in production for commercial use as well as military. The 767 is near the end of production. Advantage Airbus - Larger tanking capacity means fewer tankers required for the job. Advantage Boeing - Smaller plane able to land at many many more airfields. There will be a future KC-10 replacement, this contest was for a more versatile tanker. Advantage Airbus - No huge tanker scandal yet Advantage Boeing - American product. I don't really buy into any argument that soured relations with the EU would make the KC-45 suddenly useless but the current mood is definitely buy American and I've always been a bit too far in that camp for my own good. Now if I were dictator of the US, I'd be strongly urging Boeing to build me a 787 tanker for this competition and heck, why not the 747-8 for the large tanker. I say 787 since it is a newer than new plane, and requires a shorter field for both takeoff and landing, and has impressive range and efficiency. Of course it isn't realistic given that the 787 is totally unproven. It's very much a multi-national sourced plane for better or worse, the wings are made in Japan, other parts from around the world. I mean the thing has a HUD! Wrapping up the ramble here I don't like the A330 deal mainly in the limiting of acceptable airfields, even if not all that many airfields can efficiently make use of a tanker, I'd like to have that greater landing choices capability when the bombs start to fall.
  2. I hope Taiwan thinks about long term sustainability in their amount of spending and not focus on matching China in the short term. Without that balance China will win without firing a shot (maybe the Proceedings story this month about the US economic war vs Japan before Pearl Harbor is influencing me...).
  3. Anybody have ideas on this one? Akula, Brad?

Can someone please verify this fix with a scenario other than WW3.SCm please?
  5. TonyE replied to TonyE's topic in General
Someone confirmed the first was fixed, guess we'll call that good enough.
  6. Can you tell that I'm doing a bit of house cleaning on the beta forums? I didn't find this in the downloads section, still in need of testing?
  7. Has this one been released yet?
  8. dealt with on IRC with a cranky Tony, the theory is that the guy has to get his BattleSetPath for the SE straightened out.
  9. I have no crash using the 2007.000 SE and Euro_DB downloaded from HarpGamer just now, http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...amp;showfile=24 Double-checked my battleset path, loaded the SE, chose a EC2003 battleset, looked at the platform display, exited. Can someone else confirm Rene's finding of a crash?
  10. I knew I should have taken 2008.025 down right away, that was just for Akula Anyway, we are looking for feedback on whether the installer is working right or not so it would be good to give it a run thru, make a backup copy of commondb.res, commondb.rsr, pfBuild2005.mdb and pfData2005.mdb before you run it just in case you had some custom stuff you wanted to keep.
  11. Okay, Matrix finally has a clue after AGSI didn't bother to tell them we had a patch ready. Please test the install process and such. 2008.024 patch from 2007.000 Grab it at: http://www.harpgamer.com/beta-hc/HCE_Updat...er-2008.024.exe 2007.000 installer in case you don't have it and want to start this from a fresh install Grab it at: http://www.harpgamer.com/beta-hc/HCE_Installer-2007.000.exe Username: hc4ever Password: F-14EBaby Known Issues: * 2008/02/29 Installer does not have a copy of pfData2005.mdb, which is noticed as absent in the PE.bak directory

Better show a photo of the track. 1000' track (plus another 1000' to slow down), two lanes, motorcycles, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and snowmobiles participate. Those are two of my nephew's on the track, and my brother's wife.

What I did over the weekend was attend the Woodbury Snowmobile Club (http://www.snowraces.com) annual Radar Run. I designed and built the electronics for the 4' x 8' sign in the pictures. It uses a standard 802.11g wireless network to receive the information from a computer program I wrote. The sign itself uses a Rabbit microprocessor module as its brains. Their timing system was broken so most of my time was spent kludging that to work, instead of watching the action and plugging speeds into my sign. Anyway, just a little proof that I love electronics and dislike computers!
  14. Warhorse64 says it all for me, on all accounts. That is in the large scale robots, ones we can see and know what they are doing. The tiny ones do worry me, the nanometer sized robots, whether intelligent or not, scare me. Once those suckers are copying themselves (and since they are so hard to make, that's exactly where much of the research is centered) billions of times using their inputs which may be as simple as sunlight and dirt/sand, life could get very bad for humanity. I would at first glance compare it to biological weaponry, while we've been lucky to avoid major chem/bio attacks by terrorists/crazy regimes, I'd call it luck, just the same as it is luck if we don't face a major nanite infestation or genetically engineered crop go awry in the next decade or too.
  15. Started looking at this, see combat5.c line 1444 or so.
  16. No crash in 2008.024
  17. Take a look at the mayhem, appears a bit like Civilization http://weewar.com/
  18. Well, now that's great. I thought you were talking about a different scenario or had some acronyms B1 and B2 that I didn't know. Turns out I played the whole scenario not knowing Langley AFB was even there! The bombers would have been very helpful.
  19. The Matrix patch will contain an updated HCDB, but I'll put out an update if the patch doesn't get released soon. Brad is being nice too, he asked me to put an HCDB update on HG a couple weeks ago now, what a slacker I am!

The GE limit for PicID is 767 The SE limit for PicID is 511 Since Rene found thru trial and error that 510 was the max in the SE, my numbers may be off by one. I'll raise the limits for the next build and we'll see what happens. I assume the existing limit was a quick hack because some of the battlesets must have had errant information. Til then I suppose staying under the limit is the only safe approach, HCDB is over the limit as well, but didn't crash in the SE on the only two planes above 510, just didn't show much information. Since the patch has already flown, probably best to create DBs with the low picIDs for now and mass increase them later.

Don't bother wasting time finding the exact number, I already know it, was looking last night.
  22. Today I finished up my run thru the scenario, wiped out a couple of more Red bases and sailed around the Atlantic molested the entire time! In how many scenarios can you kill 59 enemy ships, sink 28 subs (and damaged 2 more), kill 22 AD Mobile units, wow. The submarine threat was real and constant. Find some diesel boats and be glad, if you turn to avoid them you'll probably be walking right into the jaws of 4 nuke boats, oy, good thing the player has S-3B for anti-submarine work, without them I would not have survived. Thanks again Ralf!

HCE - 2008.024 ============== - Chg:0000 GE Fixed a buffer overflow in mini report caused by type being to long (ex. AD Mobile > 8 characters). (thanks Gopher) - Chg:0000 GE Fixed a lock-up/crash when list view columns are sized very small. The program was getting into an endless loop trying to shorten the text to display. (thanks Mack) http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=2604

  25. Addressed in 2008.024 and will probably take care of lock-ups resizing any list view columns in the GE to really small widths.
