  1. No doubt that is a worthwhile buy!
  2. Yes, holler at us right away, don't be afraid to e-mail me. I know one bot got thru the registration process this week but didn't know it was sending PMs. Guess I do need to do the next patch to make it even tougher to get thru registration (at some point it will just be impossible to register I suppose... ).
  3. If Palestine was Israel's only worry and threat I would agree. If Israel is denied the tools to keep the other players at bay (the ones where F-35s are useful), Palestine wins by the destruction of Israel through deterioration of defense capability against Israel's conventional militarily stronger foes. So I don't agree that witholding F-35s would be a valid lever. Non-military trade sanctions would be a valid lever, Israel maintains a strong (enough) military but still feels a pinch. I think Israel is one of the few nations where the military equipment as a lever approach is counter-productive.
  4. If HCE-GameEngine works the same than Harpoon 4... Antiship missiles are affected by jammers and decoys, which take off a penalty from weapon Ph. Jammers & Decoys together get the highest penalty, and decoys gets a penalty higher than jammers. Missile Ph is also affected by target´s size, being a larger target more easy to hit. HCE does not work the same as Harpoon 4 paper; H4 paper is just a good reference for understanding the game and in the case of antiship missiles many of the same flags apply (you noted high speed, terminal maneuvers, both are modelled in HCE). I'm also not going to be examing every line of code in HCE for you (as much as I would like to) because I wouldn;t get any code written. I walked through a DATA example because pboiler went to a large amount of work looking in the platform editor, running tests, and really forming the answer on his own. I thought that merited an in-depth response. Now if someone(s) want to nicely write documentation of all of the models while I look through the code then that is something we'd love to see (contact us at hc3@harpgamer.com).
  5. Hello TonyE. Here´s an example from Harpoon 4 - Quickstart Rules. Moskit DATA: 0.5+1.0+1.5=3.0 +1.0 for missile speed (1000 knots or higher) +1.5 for terminal maneuvers NATO Sea Sparrow ATA 4.0 (40% Ph) Differential=4.0-3.0=1.0, which gives a Ph=(30+10)=40% per missile At HCE, what method use firing AAMs when chasing planes, the first or the second? P.D.: It seems that AAMs use the same method that Mk15 Phalanx CIWS is using instead of method used by NATO Sea Sparrow. HCE uses an approach closer to the Sea Sparrow example for the AAMs when chasing planes. The Phalanx falls into a different mechanism of point defense instead of area defense.
  6. Sounds like a decent way to do. It places more emphasis on weight than I might like but it is simplistic enough to be useable. Shape of ordnance/drop tanks as well as the mounting position will also have a large effect on the real life DATA. It isn't purely an estimate of maneuverability either as the inclusion of jamming indicates, DATA encompasses the signature-based aspects where a 1000lb drop tank might increase the radar signature of the plane much more than a 2000lb iron bomb. just my 2 cents, I like the effort and bounds checking you've undertaken!
  7. No, most of the code in HCE is based on the version 3 paper rules but I haven't looked into the mechanism of dumb bombs. Many of the tables and rules in H4 do help tremendously with understanding HCE, I don't want to suggest something else. I know it isn't using the stick hit table from H4. A better guess is that the game calculates each potential bomb hit individually.
  8. Yes, the Prowler's jamming will help the Intruders get hit by fewer missiles.
  9. Thanks Pete, always nice when the 'good guys' win. Do we get to see AAA in the near future?
  10. Hello CV32. I have found "Harpoon 4 - Modern Tactical Naval Warfare" this morning. It is what I have been looking for. I am going to buy "High Tide" next month. The box contains 210 counters, 4 dice, Rules Book, Data Annex Book, Quickstart Rules and Scenario Book. But I am surprised that there wasn´t any hex-grid map in the box. Is there anything missing? You are getting the good stuff. The quickstart rules are especially valuable in helping to understand the Rules Book.
  11. I am a little confused. Should I add loadout DATA plus plane DATA to get a final score? No, use whichever DATA number is lower. If the loadout DATA is 5.0 and the plane DATA is 15.0, then use 5.0 in your calculations when the plane is using that loadout.

Many of Matrix Games' titles are on sale for the holidays. HCE and H3ANW are both 30% off during this time, take advantage, buy a spare copy or two. Better yet, put one on your neighbor's front step! Matrix Holiday Sale!
  13. All Database info comes from HCDB-081124 AIM-120D Snap Up/Down (aka unaffected by target being at different altitude) Air PH: 85% C-130 (no ECM) Size: Large ATA: 5.0 DATA: 5.0 F-22A (no ECM) Size: Very Small ATA: 60.0 DATA 35.0 Rafale M Size: Small ATA: 55.0 DATA: 30.0 Spectra ECM PH -20% Mig-29 (no ECM) Size: Small ATA: 50.0 DATA: 25.0 First some assumptions: 1. None of the planes are going > 1300kts else they would get a 30% PH bonus 2. One missile per target airplane AIM-120D vs C-130 85 (AIM-120D) - 5 (C-130 DATA) = 80 (difference in ATA) Chance = difference in ATA + 30, therefore 110 = 80 + 30, Chance = 110 Roll the dice, but needn't bother since the chance to hit is 110% AIM-120D vs F-22A 85 (AIM-120D) - 35 (F-22 DATA) = 50 Chance = 50 + 30 = 80 10% PH bonus to F-22 for being Very Small Air Chance = 80 - 10 = 70 Roll the dice and it will eventually average 70% hit AIM-120D vs Mig-29 85 (AIM-120D) - 25 (Mig-29DATA) = 60 Chance = 60 + 30 = 90 Roll the dice and it will eventually average 90% hit AIM-120D vs Rafale 85 (AIM-120D) - 30 (RafaleDATA) = 55 Chance = 55 + 30 = 85 Apply ECM 20% PH reduction Chance = 85 -20 = 65 Roll the dice and it will eventually average 65% hit In other words your Rafale pilots were just a hair lucky.

Keep working it fellas. A nice test scen would be good. Can you make it happen with 1 sub vs 1 sub? That'd be an ideal test scen if you can make it happen. One of my curiosities is whether you can make it happen in the African battleset for instance, one where SOSUS isn't going to interfere.
  15. Ah shucks, forgot about that. Yes, there is a way around it if you don't care if the lat/lon are correct (in essence shift the map 90 or however many degrees in longitude). I'll tinker with it a bit if you provide the coordinates from the BS Builder. There is also a command line switch "anylatlon" that overrides the limitation (but I doubt you'll get a useable battleset crossing the boundary). i.e. "C:\Matrix Games\HCE\BSBuilder\BSBuilder.exe" anylatlon would be a command line.
  16. Airborne cannon are hard-coded. Any intercept or escort loadout assigns air to air cannon to a plane and gives it four bursts of fire. They are not editable at present.
  17. Palex, if you are releasing this scenario, please make it available from the downloads area. This gives us better tracking and you better updating capabilities if you later modify the scenario, http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...s&showcat=6 Make sure to include both Red and Blue orders files. Thank you.\
  18. The idea has been bandied about on IRC chat once or twice. It is definitely possible to accomplish but it would not be a simple task. 1. Easy part, make your map/battleset using the BattletSet Builder. See http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=3237 for some hints. Also note the alternative graphic for the map, http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...mp;showfile=268 2. Create a database with the platforms you need. This is probably the most involved part of the entire process. To get the Platform Editor running, see http://www.computerharpoon.com/wiki/main/i...e=HCCE:PE_Guide . You may want to enlist the help of the database authors to speed the process. 3. Write your scenario. This can take some effort as well but should be rewarding in the end. 4. Bundle the scenario and database into the battleset using the BS Builder.
  19. We're lucky that all of the published HCE databases are here at HarpGamer (thanks to Brad/CV32 and Rene/Divefreek for making that happen). The listing of them is at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...s&showcat=3. There are databases ranging from WWII to the present (and a bit beyond). One of the game limitations is the number of entries in a database so a single comprehensive database from WWII to present is pretty much impossible to build at this time. Yes, you can switch between databases. They are often distributed as a commondb.res and optionally commondb.rsr file zipped up. Whatever commondb database you have in the game directory when you start the game is the database that will be used for EC2003 and newer battlesets, including custom-made battlesets that don't include a database (some do include the DB). Shuffling the databases around can become confusing. Just remember that not all databases work with all scenarios. The scenario downloads here at HarpGamer indicate which database is suggested to play a scenario. For the built-in EC2003/WestPac scenarios your best bet is the HCDB database. The database authors tend to be receptive to making database additions and changes if you have a solid intent to make a scenario with certain units that aren't available already.
  20. That's pretty awesome, thanks for sharing it!
  21. Even the 57mm should make good plinking sounds.
  22. Does this seem as shocking to the rest of you as it does to me? Gripen should have won this hands down on cost, probably environmental conditions as well (just how stealthy is an icy JSF? can you maintain the stealthiness of a frozen JSF...).
  23. That is pretty sad workmanship. It must have been teach your child to learn welding day.
  24. Nic, I just feel bad I haven't made any use of what you've provided already. Your aircraft evasion message is actually at the top of my paperwork pile so there is some hope. How about a few words on the Terminal Attack Pipe Dream? http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=2175 Nothing too in depth required, take 5-10 minutes and add your 2 cents.
  25. job security Brad, job security. What do the shipyards call it, maintaining a skilled workforce?
