Making Maps on the BS Builder

Featured Replies

trying to make a battleset map from Japan to just east of Hawaii and it tells me it is illegal lat and lon. the only thing i can firure out is it crosses zero degrees lon. is there anyway around that. the scenario that i am working on involves japan and the Hawaiian Islands

Ah shucks, forgot about that. Yes, there is a way around it if you don't care if the lat/lon are correct (in essence shift the map 90 or however many degrees in longitude). I'll tinker with it a bit if you provide the coordinates from the BS Builder. There is also a command line switch "anylatlon" that overrides the limitation (but I doubt you'll get a useable battleset crossing the boundary).

i.e. "C:\Matrix Games\HCE\BSBuilder\BSBuilder.exe" anylatlon

would be a command line.

ok lat is 47.9243 lon is 139.619

lat 14.853 lon is-134.630

Shifting the map 90 degrees to the East seems to do the trick. I've attached my first attempt and am uploading the graphics files for the BS Builder so that you can refine the size of the battleset. Note that any installaitons in the database will have to be manually moved to the correct location when using the scenario editor or you'll have to move them 90 degrees to the East in the platform editor.

Cool hack :)

You know, you could add a few conversion routines to the core of GE and appropriate flags stored in the BS through the BSB to do linear transformations on the existing "GPS" routines, a simple 2d matrix simplified and even optimized for your few special cases, allowing the user to bring a normal world map and have BSB rotate it as well as flag it appropriately so the GE knows how to position icons on it :)

If you see a way I can help, I'd be glad to (maths, whatever)

from the thumbnail it doesnt look like it includes the Japanese mainland which is an important component in the scenario.

hate to ask Tony but could you make another that includes that area.

second question what do i dod with it after i unzip it. what files do i replace and where would they go.

Thanks in advance.

Ken

Kenennis,

You have the source maps (the big download you did) so that you can make whatever area you need. The two tif files and one bmp file. The bmp file goes in the BSBuilder directory, the two tifs in the BSBuilder\map_tif\ directory. Then you create your own battlesets with the BSBuilder.
