Sonar AI vs Player

Featured Replies

I´ve played Ralfs Pason I several times form blue and red.

But always ma subs catch torpedos from the AI but i get seldom even a yellow contact....

And this makes me wonder if others observed similar behaviour....

It feels as if AI subs are harder to detect for the player than player subs for the AI

As I related to Rene on IRC, I'm not seeing this behaviour but I suppose it might be a matter of perception.

The submarine AI tends to be very aggressive, and they might be shooting at the first hint of a detection. So, the player controlled sub might be hearing the torpedo before they hear the AI sub.

Of course, that isn't explaining why the AI sub isn't being detected first by Rene's player controlled subs.

Anyone else having sub issues of this kind?

I got the same problems when I played through. The AI could nail me and never be seen. Made no difference if I played red or blue, same results either way. So its not just Rene experiencing it.

You guys need to narrow this down more.

What subs are you driving? At what speeds? Circumstances? Savegames too, if possible.

When you play the pason scen from Blue, the subs have no starting speed.

And I played it with the HCDB and my 80to95db, so it seems not to be a db issue...

I´ll include the pason here in the post for other beta testers to play it...

It contains Oberon, 206A, Rubis vs Victor II, Victor III, Oscar II, Charli II

It can be played with HC-Euro-DB, HC-80to95-DB and HCDB.

Region/Map: GUIK

P.S the Effekt is the same if you play blue or red!

I'm basically having the exact same problem. There doesn't seem to be any thing you can do different, the AI always seems to get contact and ability to fire first. Subs don't matter, side doesn't matter.

Keep working it fellas. A nice test scen would be good. Can you make it happen with 1 sub vs 1 sub? That'd be an ideal test scen if you can make it happen. One of my curiosities is whether you can make it happen in the African battleset for instance, one where SOSUS isn't going to interfere.

What i know, it happens in usermade BS, too.

And those BS shouldn´t have any Sosus, right?

Regards René, back from Holyday...

I said South Africa because the SOSUS won't be there but it will be in a user made battleset of the North Atlantic.

Nice to know....

BTW

Where are the Borders for Sosus in a BS? Wich Area is coverd? And how is this implemented in the game?

The borders are defined per battleset, one rectangle for the Blue side, one for the Red side. Someday I'll let you define the SOSUS regions in the BS Builder. Mechanically it is treated as a really big sonobuoy with a really low chance of detection.

Ok 2 smal test scens, both sides have the same subs!

running 10 testruns each gives me the following result subtest with 2 sub per side acts normal, detection of the opfor sub and vice versa => incomming torps after some time.

Subtest2 with 2 subgroups per side with 1 sub each = 4 in total.

detection of 1 opfor sub... torpedos fired by both opfor (AI) subs simultan...

testing a similar setup now in GUIK

something aside...

It looks as if the subs move different distance in the same time, but speed is set to 5kn for each Group!!! :o:(

Hehe, that's why I've always seen the speed setting as being the order you give, rather than an exact telegraph setting or actual speed :)

It explains away the sudden change of speed and heading too ;)

Especially in the case of group settings : a group being a dynamic formation, depending on your role you won't travel the same distance as others in the same formation.

Don't know that the GE really processes it that way, but it helps in the suspension of disbelief to see things that way ;)

Ran Rene's test scenarios, subtest and subtest2, yesterday while Rene, Tony and I were in IRC channel at the time.

Oberons typically gained detections at 12-13 nm, and the player came under torpedo fire at between 5-8 nm.

In the second scenario, a Barracuda SSN is added to the fray (on both sides). Not surprisingly, this Red SSN also shoots at the Blue Oberon when the latter is attacked by the Red Oberon. (Due to the fact that AI platforms share detection information simultaneously).

All told, nothing unusual here that I can see.

I haven't tried Pason yet, which Rene advises is 4 vs 4 scenario. I think we need to rule out whether other factors are in play, most notably whether the AI is gaining detections from other platforms, i.e. ships and aircraft.
