Database Design & Discussion

Hi all, re the latest couple of HCWW data bases (090605 &090618). I like the idea of playing back in WW2 with out all them there modern stuff, but I can't get my blue pilots to fire their guns at other planes. I've even sicked them onto planes with no armament, but they just fly around them looking stupid. Any one else having this happen.? Don Thomas [CV32: Edited]

It seems that these answers are pretty well know by many people, so can someone tell me what are the range of ESM, RWR, FLIR, IRST and TCS codes that can be seen in the Aicraft Annex, under the "Flags" field. Thx by advance.

I think this is the right place for this information. At the original database, CV Kuznetsov can only wear 36 aircraft. David Miller, "The Illustrated Directory of Warships, London, 2001", says that "the planned capacity of the ship is 58 aircraft". And Chris Chant, "Barcos de Guerra, Alcobendas, 2006", says that it is able to carry between 60 and 70 aircraft. If you are editing your own database, as I do, you can modify this entry. A typical air wing of 60 aircraft could be: 36*Su-33 Flanker. 12*Ka-25 Hormone A, ASW. 6*Ka-25 Hormone B, Search. 6*Ka-31 Helix, AEW. I still haven't found my old copy of Office 97 and I'm wondering about Access 97 Runtime that you guys have made available to us. Is it more than a viewer or can it be used to modify and save DBs? Create report formats, etc?

Checking out the SL-AMRAAM in the DB (Humvee-based AMRAAM SAM) and saw that it has the same range as the AIM-120C7. All the discussions I've seen on this system indicates that it has a much smaller range than the air-launched version and is inferior to Patriot range. DN

I need a little help. I have downloaded several different databases from the downloads section. In every case I have attempted to unzip the DB only to get a message that the DB is either corrupted or empty. Downloads from the scenario area are unzipping properly. Does anyone have a suggestion here? DK

I've encountered the L-39 Albatros in at least a couple of scenarios. One MEDC and one WestPac. In both of these games, I have found that the plane is pretty stealthy. I mean that it appears at about the same range that I would expect a Stealth bomber to show up - visual range. Could you possibly take another look at the RCS value for this plane? I can understand if it is a small plane, but my experience has it virtually invisible.

Looks like i stumbled over an error and some missing infos... No Info About Dipping and localizer/ranging and HF(3d) seems to be wrong. dipping should be easy to fill. => Sonar used by Helos and Ships, lowered when in use. In the game helos use dipping sonar only while hovering at vlow..... But for the two other fields I need more info to fix it.... How is it working in the game?

Hi Brad or Tony I am a long time user and editor of Harpoon games from days 360 of Both types , I just restarted when I purchased HCE about a month ago , I was modifying the HCDB-080122 for my own use, I wanted a database with just a few countries (UK France Germany Italy INT Russia USA Canada and maybe Spain ) after I deleted some entries and tried a scenario it said there are no names for that class ie: I was adding a mobile AD site to a Russian Airbase so I add a different Sam and loaded the scenario and it the game Crashed , my question is are you able to delete platforms you are not going to need ? and another question is there a way like in Harpoon 3 database …

I am doing some platform editing and i need info in the f-14 upgrade that was proposed by grumman In the same vein i would like to know how i can copy individual items from one db to another easily without having to print them each time. And when will the upgrades for the PE and SE will be coming out ?

In scrolling through the DB, and after reading the Yugoslav AAR, my interest has piked again over HCCE's employment of ground units. I believe that I have seen indiviual tanks through brigades and divisions. Since the maps are road and other specific terrain-less, do they simply move as "land-ships" that are prohibited from moving into the sea? How about how they "fight" other ground units. Do they have an extremely short effective range, or must they be "in contact" with the opposing force? How were the unit's damage points determined? I'm trying to figure out how you get the RCS value for ships, aircraft, installations, ect ect. I know there's a formula out there to do it, but for life of me, I can't find it, and I've spent close to 2 hours trying to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Thanks to the HCE launcher it becomes more and more easy to switch between differnet DBs What i have tested so far is that with the launcher the commonddb files need no longer to be in the HCE Mainfolder and we can edit the name of the files. so my idea and proposal is that we db-designers, those who publish databases regulary, provide them in a zip container, containing a folder named "databases" containing the db file named like hcdb_20100506.res, oder HC-50to65-DB_20100427.res, etc... + the "normal" commondb.res file outside the folder for those not using the launcher... Maybee at a later point we can distribute the db files as an installer file? …

I'm having trouble uploading a database to the site, it keeps timing out. I believe the files are within the size limit. Any ideas? I've tried from two different internet connections so I don't think the problem's at my end.
