We should let everyone know that people who are involved in active wargames should not discuss the specifics of their activities here. This is to avoid compromising that ongoing game and/or letting something slip (even inadvertently) to the "enemy".

Hello all, I hope you all don't mind me posting up a PBEM game I'm playing against Dewayne Harris. It's not Harpoon but it sure has been an interesting game and I thought I would share it with you. I'm playing the ever peace loving Japanese Empire against the evil Allied Powers. Currently we're up to spring of 1942. However, I will provide all the pertient moves (good and bad) up til then. More to follow....

I won't be doing this for a few months, but I'm planning to do a Harpoon 4 game over at Myth-Weavers. The scenario I intend to do- after a quick one from "High Tide"- will be an epic recreation of the assault on the Varyag and Novorossiysk groups from Barrett Tillman's The Sixth Battle. Anyone interested?

I would like to run a PBEM game based on the Gulf Escort Deja Vu scenario from the H4 Quickstart guide. The game will be played out with SimPlot v1.6.0.0. This will give me a chance to evaluate SimPlot for multiplayer use. My own in-house experiments show promise, but now it's time to play for real. Turns will be played by me until either a new detection is made or we reach a decision point (no set time frame per night--it will be "event driven"). I will then communicate to the appropriate player (sending a new turn file and ask for new orders). It will be inevitable that a player may not get an email from me every night. You will definitely get one when somethi…

Anyone with TacOps wanting to test a scenario over the TacOps TC/IP function one night this week, let me know. It would be a Custom US Army scenario that I have orders and OOB's for on Map540c (See More Maps folder in TacOps Extras within the TacOps directory). It could be you vs me, or bring a buddy and I'll umpire it. Your inner Creighton Abrams may be calling.

A listing of MBXs and CPXs, past, present and future. Completed One Morning in the Hof Gap (3 August 1996) Ruleset: TacOps via IRC Scenario: US battalion versus OPFOR battalion Result: Ran out of time. Game inconclusive. AAR: Here Canadian Collision (11 August 1996) Ruleset: TacOps via IRC Scenario: OPFOR, two T-80U battalions, have to escort a convoy. Canadian forces, a tank regiment have to seize an airbase. Both are going to bump into each other. An interpretation of a scenario from c.1840- the Kriegsspiel days; the very early days of war gaming, where two forces have two entirely unrelated objectives and just happen to be in the sam…

Gents, I am looking for two players for a PBEM scenario using SimPlot and SimPlot Viewer. The objective is to test using SimPlot as a referee tool and SimPlot Viewer as a player tool. Players will need SimPlot Viewer v0.9.1 and the Persian Gulf map. Although the scenario will only use a small portion of the map, I want to test using the map feature of Viewer. The scenario is from the Red Star Over the Gulf article in Naval Sitrep #48. The article contains several Soviet vs. Iran scenarios, and if this test goes well then I would like to play other (larger) scenarios later. If you are interested, then please reply here. Kevin Edit: You don't need a …

For the next PBEM, I am proposing a variant of the Red Star Over The Gulf - Divide and Conquer scenario from Naval Sitrep #48. The Soviet forces are two escorts and three merchants. Iranian forces are two warships and maybe a few aircraft. That means we could have 2 Soviet (blue) players and 2 or 3 Iranian (red) players. The scenario will take place in the middle of the Persian Gulf, with the Blue objective to run to Kuwait to deliver war cargo, and the Red objective is, of course, to stop them. We could build this scenario with Blue side selecting their escorts (within reason--from ships that were actually in the gulf at the time). This will be known to Red s…

Seems there are quite a few of these large scale wargames on the rampage these days, e.g. War in 2012, Spring Tiger, Mach 2 Vampires, and the upcoming Splash One Mudhen. I have myself toyed with the idea of running an MBX ever since my involvement with that monster wargame Global Thunder. But the scale of those efforts have been truly massive, daunting, and while I have great respect for the folks who have taken on the job and pulled it off, I don't think I would like to take on something quite that large. I have two efforts in mind, one a bit larger than the other. I also see the merit in running a smaller scale wargame prior to the larger effort, as HG member Si…

Though the sample size is small, the largely polarized results of the previous poll leads me to another poll. One that further explores the one area where folks seem to have a greater variety of interest. Many of these choices are directly from the Harpoon4 High Tide list. If nothing in the above list suits your fancy, please by all means post your own suggestion.

Scenario found on pages 21-23 of Troubled Waters by Chris Carlson. Rules being used: Harpoon 4.1 Method being used: CIC Combat Plotter v1.0.5.4 I intend to use this message thread as an ongoing report of the Operation Praying Mantis scenario that I am attempting solo, using the H4.1 rules and Combat Plotter. As of right now, all of the H4.1 data forms are completed for each class of ship and aircraft present. All platforms have been in put with speed and heading (and altitude as appropriate). The only thing remaining is to complete the aircraft fuel burn rate for the KC-10 and SuWCAP, the latter being completed as an aggregate "group". I hope to accurately po…

Decisive Action Decisive Action is a modern Division and Corps level simulation that depicts combat with maneuver brigades and battalions along with supporting artillery, airstrikes, electronic warfare, engineer, helicopters, and even pysops units. Units are depicted with official NATO symbology, and US Army official map control measures delineate the battlefield. New life may have been blown into the languishing gem with the very recent release of v2.7. The sim is available from HPS Sims. I have had an on again off again love affair with this sim. The civilian version is a deviation from a product used at the US Army Command and Staff College. It suffers fro…

Gentlemen, An Umpired PBEM Harpoon game is being offered to anyone that is interested. The scenario being played is a slightly modified version of Surge into the Barents published in High Tide page 59. If you’ve had enough with the computer stuff, tired of a burning retina, and bug fixes, and want a real mental exercise than playing Harpoon4 in way it’s designed to be played is for you. The requirements to play is: one must have a copy of either Harpoon4 or 4.1 Rules, graph paper – that’s right, I said graph paper, you’re going to do your own plotting men. Protractor, ruler, calculator, and pencil with an eraser are also required. No, there is no fancy graphics, bu…

Who would be interested in a multi-player TOAW III game run at Myth-Weavers? It won't be for a while (for a start I've yet to get the game), but I'm looking at a Third World War in Europe style game. This would probably go between David & Goliath and The Sixth Battle; it'd be a shorter scenario of fixed turn length.

Harpoon CPX Update Okay, the coin has been tossed and ... Dewayne has drawn the EU Peter has drawn the US You will each receive separate SITREP's and Order of Battle (OOB) information by private email. Your choices will be posted here later. Here's the basic premise of the scenario, which I've entitled "Terminus": Sometime in the not too distant future … The war in the Middle East during the past few weeks has been devastating, and has left military forces, political ties and civilian populations bruised and battered on all sides. One of the most tragic victims of the conflict has been the longstanding alliance between the United States and t…
