Scenario Design & Discussion

A forum for discussion of scenario design for Harpoon Classic/Commander's Edition

  1. For those of you who want to use the Scenario Editor and have Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium version there is a sale right now to do an anytime upgrade to Win 7 Pro which then includes a Windows XP mode license. Then you can run the SE in the XP virtual machine. The anytime upgrades don't have you reinstall programs or anything http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16832116774 use promo code: EMCNJND49 to bring it down to $60.

This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side. The Battle of Latakia was a small naval battle fought on 7 October 1973, during the Yom Kippur War. It was the first naval engagement to involve an exchange of anti-ship surface to surface missiles and in which electronic warfare played a principal role. The Sy…

After Action Report: Operation Lancette NOTE: Usual spoilers follow. Play the scenario yourself before reading further Given the scenario - a peacetime exercise - I decided to employ a strict ROE. With a large contingent of Atlantique maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft based with Flotille 21F at Nimes-Garons, I could afford to set up a sizeable anti-submarine patrol in the area south of Toulon. Four such aircraft were directed to conduct formation patrols in the area, two in the zone extending to 120 nm, and two more at the 180 nm distance, in order to sanitize the intended path of the carrier group. Alouette, Lynx and Alize aircraft were…

  9. Hey, I was just about to dive in and revise this old classic when I found myself wondering if anyone through the years had already done so. The problem with this scenario (as reiterated by the AAR I ran across in my search) is that, with the new sonar modeling, subs are much harder to detect. That, plus those 54nm-range wake homing torps, makes it nearly impossible for the CVBG to escape US territorial waters without losing the majority of its ships (including the CVN). Anyway, once I'm done I'll be sure to post it up here. My goal is to go back and revise all the original Cold War Gone Hot scenarios from the GIUK and NACV battlesets. I have really fond memories…

  11. See: http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...amp;showbug=206 Question: I have half a mind to make it so that you can't add aircraft to the base by selecting an aircraft at the base and then selecting Add Plane, should I do that? So you would still be able to add aircraft to Keflavik if Keflavik were selected but you couldn't add planes to Keflavik by selecting F-15s already at Keflavik. This goes to future capability to have units carrying other units, the current behavior would not meld with that. Looking for opinions

"Historical" accuracy is a goal, so Tomcats, Backfires, Vikings, etc. are absent in this collect…

Crap. Just Crap. So thought Admiral Konstantin Sidenko as he slid the vodka bottle away across the desk and looked at the telex one more time. Japanese at Yuznho-Kurilsk, and I have to kick them out. And just three months until a nice retirement, the Black Sea villa, the wine cellar, the mistress, oh, the mistress...Crap! What rotten luck. I wonder who told them what lousy shape we're in. He stood up, put the bottle in the cabinet across the room. No more of that for a while. He put some water in the samovar for tea and assessed the situation. In a large sense, he was "screwed" as the Americans put it. Years of low budgets and corruption had sapped the Far East …

For today this is just a place holder mostly, but if any of you have any ideas on Vietnam era historical and a historical missions i'd love to hear about them! I've been meaning to get onto this for a while, as I always thought there were too few Vietnam era missions, and the one or two I found were brilliant. I plan to make around 5 historic scenarios, but will extensively research each one, with the help of you guys I hope Also I plan for some 'fun' A-Historic missions, which will be entirely of my own design! For this week I will be researching in main the weapons systems used in the US Advisory Vietnam War era - '63-'65 Notes for research(any ideas for …

I downloded HC's new BattleSets I can find bases in scenario editor for Middle East (including the Red Sea and the eastern Mediterranean) However I can't find bases, in the scenario editor for : Caribbean Basin South Atlantic South Africa The base list seems to have some "generics" like Lrage Airfield, medium Airfield etc. Which I would rhink would allow me to place them in any Battleset. Can you folks advise me what to do. Without bases the new Battlests leave a lot to be desired. Thanks. PS what does this mena? "These newest BattleSets, and the scenarios that come packaged with HCE for them, again all use the HCDB database hosted here at Harp…

  19. The top post in this thread will consist of lists of vlow capable planes for each of the early (pre EC2003) battlesets which have their own built in database. The information has been gathered by trial and error, it may be incorrect. Please contribute (additions or corrections) by adding a post, someone will put the information into this top post. Note1: When testing plane units appear to need at least two aircraft, all single plane units appear to be vlow capable. Note2: Vlow capability doesn't seem to necessarily follow on to later battlesets. the list currently shows those planes found to be vlow capable. Mostly attack and fighter planes tested at the moment. …

Hi all, I saw this article today and it spurred some interest: http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=626...c=SEA&s=TOP Combined with the news about the Varyag almost reaching completion and US talks about selling or updating Taiwan's F-16's, I think there are some cool possibilities for scenarios here. 1. Growing escalations have led to increased US deployment before crisis. A more balanced scenario with the US having 2 CVBGs, increased air power from Kadena and Andersen, and subs already in position in the Strait and near key Chinese strategic areas. Objective would be to eliminate Chinese air and missile bases. 2. Surprise. US CVBG is out of p…
