Scenario Design & Discussion

A forum for discussion of scenario design for Harpoon Classic/Commander's Edition

  1. File Name: Gates of Sorrow (Part 5 of 5) File Submitter: CV32 File Submitted: 03 Jan 2013 File Category: Middle East Gates of Sorrow (Part 5 of 5) A Harpoon Commanders Edition (HCE) scenario for the Middle East Battleset. This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side only. This is the final instalment of the five part series that began with the scenario Threshold. With much of the Middle East now laying in smoking ruins, chaos reigns in the region. A follow up nuclear strike against Tehran, believed to have been carried out by cruise missiles launched from an Israeli submarine, has leveled that city. Most of the Russian military support deploy…

File Name: Running on Empty.zip File Submitter: Clemens File Submitted: 6 May 2012 File Category: WestPac DB Used: HCDB-120426 Authors: Clemens Battleset-WPac: .scq - WPac - WestPac Scenario Background: Running on empty. China's declared exclusion zone and subsequent attacks on ships has caused shipping insurance companies to stop offering insurance to any ship that comes within 500 miles of the conflict area. The consequence of this is that Japan is down to two weeks worth crude oil and natural gas. The only solution the Japanese have been able to come up with is for the government to buy several ULCC's, and LNG carriers and have the JMSDF operate them. …

Greetings, I'm attempting to build my first scenario (GCC without the US v. Iran) and I'd like to include a Qatar based AN/TPY-2 radar set. The only unit that I know in the game which possesses this particular set is the INTL SAM THAAD BTY, which unfortunately includes the launchers and a large complement of interceptors (since I'd like it to only be for surveillance, missiles are a hassle). So on to my questions. In order to strip the launchers (and the avenger platoon also) do I need to use the platform editor? Can I change missile counts there as well? I can't yet open the platform editor, apparently I need an update or patch. I tried downloading the c…

This scenario is designed for play by the Israeli/Blue or the Egyptian/Red side, to avoid spoilers is better to play the first time the Blue/Israeli side. Set up Keflavik as a Red Base and added a battery of SA-6s and then ran an attack mission on it. My but I was surprised to lose 30 incoming JASSMs to I-HAWK missiles coming from a Soviet occupied base. I'm guessing I would have to go into the Platform Editor to strip them out, but it does seem odd that a RED base gets to keep and use NATO SAMs.

Easing back into Harpoon and want to set up some simple scenarios to experiment with the variious weapon systems. I'm using Clancey's RSR as a template for setting up Iceland as a Soviet base against which to conduce air attacks, which leads to a couple of questions: 1) As I see it the original four battlesets are the only ones that that include the Soviet Union, right? 2) The only way to adjust the weapon systems present at a base are via the Platform Editor, right? For example, as per RSR, I would like to add 4x SAM6 launchers, so I would have to go to the Platform Editor to do this - however, if I remember correctly that would not be possible for the orginal …

  8. I am looking for the defences that were set up in the Dardanelles in the Cold war, colorfully enough, the Turks apparently got some 9.4inch guns from the UK, but is there anywhere were I can find what else they had to defend the straits up to Istanbul? Thanks!

This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side. In 1980, then Secretary of the Navy Edward Hidalgo directed that the US Navy ship with the longest active status should display the First Navy Jack until its departure from service. With the decommissioning of the carrier USS Kitty Hawk in May 2009, the honor of flying the First Navy Jack passed to the USS Enterprise. This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side. Okean (Ocean) 70, conducted by the USSR during April and May 1970, was the largest exercise held by any navy since the end of WWII. Hundreds of surface ships, submarines and land based aircraft participated simultaneously in several worldwide operating regions, including the Barents, Norwegian Sea, Baltic, and Mediterranean, as well as in the Pacific. Five years later, in April 1975, another major Soviet naval exercise, dubbed Okean 75, repeated the…

This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side. An American effort to deter aggression on the Korean Peninsula is met by unexpected resistance from the Peoples Republic of China. Caught deep inside the Yellow Sea, an American carrier strike group must fight to stay alive and protect the reinforcements already enroute to Inchon. This is a large and very busy scenario, a monster of sorts. RED has more than 40 bases and over 2,000 aircraft at its disposal. You will likely need to adjus…

During the past few years, and even more so during 2012, the international news headlines have been dominated by stories of the suspicion surrounding the nuclear activities of Iran, whether that nation is actively pursuing a nuclear weapons program, and if so, the mortal threat faced by Israel. What says the forum ... Is it better to have a scenario that is "epic" in nature - spanning the entire length and breath of a region (i.e., a fight on two-fronts) OR is it better to break things down a bit and examine each front separately? I'm trying to decide on how I should craft one of the upcoming BRICS installments.
