Scenario Design & Discussion

A forum for discussion of scenario design for Harpoon Classic/Commander's Edition

File Name: Fleet Ex 83 File Submitter: CV32 File Submitted: 05 Jul 2013 File Category: WestPac Fleet Ex 83 A Harpoon Commander's Edition scenario for the Westpac Battleset. This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side only. The year 1983 has sometimes been described as the 'most dangerous year'. Certainly an argument can be made that this is true, at least as far as the Cold War was concerned. A number of events occurred during 1983 that brought the two superpowers of the era - the United States and the Soviet Union - as close to the brink of war as they had ever been. On 8 March 1983, American President Ronald Reagan delivered a speech …

  3. Well this forum seems to be more busy then over at Matrix so let me post this here too: This scen is already playable... there needed to be some minor changes, but I guess it is now too big and the scen editor crashes regulary. But the version I have now (better 2 version, 1 more "heavy" and Red has more stuff) is playable very good on the 2 systems I tested them on (older PCs so newer ones should have no prob at all). Heres the copy from 1st postings at Matrix (I´ll update these to have a little blog about the history and the equipment you have and face) http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3322907 NOTE: THIS WAS DESIGNED IN HARPOON GOLD 2002 - using…

This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side. It has often been the subject matter of science fiction, both in the written word and on the silver screen. An invasion of the Earth by an alien species from another world. Almost certainly superior to us in technology, just by virtue of their ability to undertake stellar travel, what has remained unknown is whether they would be hostile. That is, until now. They have arrived. This is intended to be a fun scenario, a brea…

  6. HDS1 4.0 Sichelshnih, turned out for me the best scenario for a long time, it really surprised me, I started to feel like doing an AAR half way through it, thus I have no notes for the first part but I have some save games to work from. I'm playing blue side. Scenario background is the US 2nd armored division being surrounded in Germany, at Willhelmshaven, need to be evacuated in 3 days, shipped to the UK via sealift. Victory conditions look interesting, game time limit is 3 days AND at least 12 transport ships (MRCH) must embark at W.haven (be on station for 1 hour) AND at least 10 MRCH need to reach the UK coasts (onsta 1 hour) AND W.haven port has to be protected for …

Sara's Day - a "How To" Guide for Achieving Victory in HCE. [spoilerS APPLY] Part 1. The Scenario 'Sara's Day' is scenario 3 in the HDS III MEDC/HDSB battleset. This scenario is legacy, and does not use the updated HCDB database. It is the fifth day of World War III, a conflict between NATO and the Warsaw Pact (and their allied or client states) across the globe. Three days previous, the Soviets pummeled NATO partner Turkey into submission, seizing control of several airfields and installations intact, while a joint effort by Syria and Egypt (and supported by the USSR) exhausted the Israeli Defense Forces. A few survivors have escaped into Greece and Italy…

  12. I was bored tonight, so I went through the HDS3 battleset orders, looking at the dates on the orders. Not sure if it's of any value to anyone else, but, here's what I found if you wanted to play these in chronological order by date. This might be an interesting WWIII set to convert to HCDB and newer GE. At least one, maybe two of the scenarios would have to be basically made up from the orders, because they load copies of other scenarios, rather than what is supposed to be there. I know 'Three Days at Mannar" in HDSC is like this. Might also be interesting to think up a matching set of events for the parts of the world HCE couldn't cover back then, like South Afr…

File Name: Operation Praying Mantis 1988, Historical Scenario File Submitter: broncepulido File Submitted: 07 Jan 2012 File Category: Middle East Operation Praying Mantis 1988, historical engagement. Note: This scenario is designed mostly to be played from the US/Blue and it's better to play that side in first place, and to play it later from the Iranian/Red side because it can be a little frustrating and boring, but the victory is also possible. Operation Praying Mantis was the Reagan administration answer to the Irani attacks on neutral tanker shipping and inmediate consequence of the mining deployed from the LST Iran Arj against the USS Samuel B. …

  15. Was there an AAR on IOPG 8.0 Regional Power? This is Bangladesh, Thailand, and Indonesia against India in the Bay of Bengal. The blue side seems so hopeless I wonder if anyone ever played this through? Here is how it went this time. --------------------------------------------------- Blue forces are about 30-35 surface units, few old British and Chinese built frigates, some 25 PTMs assigned to 6 surface groups, two Indonesian Type 1300s submarines and 16 Super Puma helicopters from the Indonesian AFB, Sabang. Two groups, AAs and ABs are postioned 100nm east of Calcutta, ACs, PTMs only, are in the Palk Straight between India and Sri Lanka, the rest is scattered sout…

[spoilers! - obviously] After Action Report for 'Bearbaiting' A scenario by rainman 'Bearbaiting' is a new HCE scenario for the EC2003 GIUK battleset. I played the scenario from the BLUE side using GE Build 2009.076 and the HCDB database. Scenario Background Orders I am in charge of two surface groups, one centred on the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and the other on the amphibious assault ship USS America. The De Gaulle has a good number of Rafales aboard, while the America has only a handful of F-35B Joint Strike Fighters and US/Spanish Harrier II Plus types. Each group has a decent number of escorts and support vessels, and plen…

to rename the generic INTL Airbase <size> when using them? I've looked for the key to do so, but either it doesn't exist, or I'm missing something obvious. While I'm asking about the Scenario Editor: Is there any way to see group and/or unit inclusion probabilities? i.e. for example, the original GIUK Dawn Patrol sometimes has 3 Nanuchkas, and other times has 4. Any way to find or display the probability? Would be nice to know the intent of the scenario designer when updating the scenarios.

Just a little story arising from taking a certain HCE demo scenario for a spin ... HMS Oberon and HMS Odin patrolling some 200 nautical miles west of enemy occupied Bodo, tasked with the priority mission of acting as a roving ambush for surging Soviet submarines that might try to slip down the coast of Norway. Secondary task of potentially interdicting a powerful Soviet surface action group reported to be heading south. Patrolling about 10 nm apart, Oberon suddenly loses contact with sister boat Odin. Soviet maritime patrol aircraft are known to have forward deployed to Bodo, their radar emissions having been picked up a Nimrod patrolling far to the north, s…
