Welcome to the Harpoon Classic demo. This demo revisits a storied part of Harpoon's history via the USNI BattleSet. Pooners Brad, Tony, and Ralf, with the help of the beta testing team, have re-made the five original USNI scenarios. The scenarios take advantage of game capabilities added since the original USNI version of the game was released more than 20 years ago! Not only that, but the weapons of war more closely match the real-world weapons thanks to post Cold-War release of information and the hard work of Brad in the DB editing department. These are no longer easy, nor introductory, scenarios, be prepared! In addition to the ten USNI scenarios (there a…

I don't know if anyone else has tried this scenario (I wasn't able to find any opinions/topics on it), but I have some observations that might be interesting, along with some questions. First, the observations: - Blue a/a weapons are very effective, especially those AIM-120s. - Blue F-15s armed with the AIM-120s are a good counter to Iran's F-14 with the Phoenix, especially when "double-teaming" the enemy group. However, sometimes the F-14s will "sneak in" (maybe radar silent? but wouldn't my EW aircraft still see them), and then they can get easy kills. - Red SAMs are VERY effective against everything: aircraft, HARMs, precision weapons, etc. Almost n…

Hi all, I was reading a post and I got aware there is such an option in the game. Searched in the download area, found the hot keys documents and I see there's a Ctrl+Alt+S key combination. I tried it but nothing happens: what am I supposed to see activating it into the game? Thanks Francesco

Okay, I've just ordered a new computer, which is going to have the 64-bit version of Vista. I understand that this means I will need some help to run the scenario editor. What solutions are y'all using, and how much do they cost? Thanks for any input ...

A couple questions I couldn't find answers for on the forum: How are databases related to battlesets? Can you use any db with any battleset? What is the difference between EC2000 and EC2003? They have the same scenarios. I noticed that some scenarios download sections are listed for GUIK or EC2000 0r EC2003 all in one. Does this mean that the scenarios are interchangeable between all three battlesets. I guess I just don't understand why there are different battlesets covering basically the same area with similar units involved.

I've browsed through some forum titles and didn't see one on the Gmae Tutorial, so I'm guessing this will be way to basic for of a question. First, let me say, I'm mainly a land warfare kind of a guy, WWII, Amer Civil. I like to start with the basics, so I've printed the manual and I'm trying to go through the Tutroial. A bit frustrating, first, the manual doesn't have th beginnning of the tutorial, after I finally figured that out, I cut and pasted from the in-game briefing and printed out the first few sections. But that was just the strat of the frustration. I've ran through the tutorial maybe half -doze times. starting with the submarine group vecto…

Hi everyone. I discovered HCE a year ago and I'm simply loving it. So first of all a big thank you to the volunteers who keep improving the code, make scenarios and keep the community alive! Now, an issue I keep encountering with the formations: units in the asw/picket ring don't sprint and drift, or stop doing it after a bit. I only explored GIUK and NACV scenarios, but this seems to be an engine problem. I realized this happens with formations made up several units while I can never reproduce that with smaller groups (or maybe more omogeneous regarding speed?). I did several searches and I found almost nothing, only this reference in another forum. I didnt find any…

A RECENT CONVERSATION IN #HARPGAMER This conversation took place in the #Harpgamer chat channel. Pete Maidhof comes by "to say hello" and he compliments Brad on his AAR of Fred Galano's WWIII (Westpac) Scenario. Pete is pleased to learn that ground units in HC are currently modeled more effectively than he had previously understood them to be. Perhaps Pete will soon have a go at Fred's scenario. Or maybe he'll try putting mobile land units into a scenario of his own making when he next opens the Scenario Editor. (No pressure, Pete, and thanks for okaying the use of this screen shot!) Earlier this same day, someone asked a question about the role of weather mode…

Hello! When making air-launched harpoon saturation strike against multiple targets in a Red surface group, I find that if the weapons 'pointed' a large ship manage to score a hit then the other weapons, aimed at other units in the group, tend to forget about what they were told to aim for and make a beeline for the ship that's already been hit. I'm guessing that this mimics what the weapons do "in real-life" (so to speak). So, I was wondering if there's a 'tactical/operational' trick to avoid wasting a lot of pricey-gee-wizardry kit from blasting an already stricken target into ever smaller bits? Any and all hints and tips, greatly appreciated!

I would like to suggest an “enhancement” for the Range & Bearing Calculator in HCCE. Since the tool already determines range and bearing from one base/unit to another, how much more difficult would it be to allow the “player” to select the starting base/unit and then select a specific point on the map, not necessarily another base/unit. I would find this enhancement useful in strike planning when it comes to planning for aerial refueling points, and determining the need for either Standard or Long Range load outs during planning because the best route to the enemy's HVT is not always a straight line through the teeth of their defense. If this is a valid sugge…

This is my first go with Classic/Commander's and as I've not had years of 'Pooner experience, I thought it might be interesting to see how the game has changed. I'll add a post as I go through each version, playing a scenario in each one. Let's begin at the beginning, with the first Alpha build from 1988.

Convoy, medium opposed NATO transit. Pretty straight forward scenario. I got two SAGs, one convoy of merchant ships and limited air assets. To win I just need to get the convoy to Narvik alive. I left all the surface ships on their starting courses and launched 3 F-16s to the north to CAP. Then sent one of my two P-3 Orions to the north roughly 151km off the coast to see what's out there. It didn't take long. My CAP detected incoming aircraft and I sent the fighters to intercept and called up some more to reinforce after changing their loadout from guided to air-to-air because I'm not sure how many Soviet aircraft I'm up against. There is only one enemy base to…

A revised version of AARdata.dll has been up loaded to the downloads section. This add-on program gives a summary of game information produced at the normal closure of a game (see attached graphic) including game time and real time spent overall and by sessions, game message log, summary of 'kills' and damaged platforms and victory conditions met. Report .txt files are named from the battleset name and file number (0 if a custom scenario, scenario number if an embedded battleset scenario) and are replaced when starting a new scenario of same battleset/file number. (pictured report from a auto play game at full time acceleration)
