  1. The following rules are part of the function get_default_loadout. You can see what mission is chosen by activating mission logging with the -l mission command line option: Fighter - Natural loadout type is MISSION_ATA (air to air) Attack - Natural loadout types are MISSION_STANDOFF MISSION_SEAD MISSION_GUIDED MISSION_UNGUIDED Bomber - Same natural loadout types as Attack That leads to the question of, so when is get_default_loadout called and why? 1. Upon scenario load (File\Load User Scenario, ...) if the loadout defined in the Scenario Editor (SE) is invalid. This can happen if loadouts are re-assigned in the database. So it is possible here for a perfectly good loadout to get unloaded and changed. 2. When creating the initial air patrols for the AI or if the Player has chose auto formation air patrols. Note that this is only for ships (but not aircraft carriers) and mobile land units. So it is possible here for a perfectly good loadout to get unloaded and changed. 3. When a saved game is restored and the loadout index is no longer valid the game tries a couple of ways to divine what was meant. If that divination fails, the default loadout is requested. You can see some indications of this by activating AC AI logging with the -l ac_ai command line option. The loadout name to MISSION type mapping was last changed in 2008 and is the following. The number MISSION_FERRY = 000 can be matched up with the loadout type in the Platform Editor (PE). Holler with more questions. // ALE 20081030 Updated loadout type distribution // MISSION_MAP maps misison IDs into MISSION_TYPES MISSION_TYPE MISSION_MAP[/* mission */] = { MISSION_FERRY, // 000 "Cargo" MISSION_ASSAULT, // 001 "Assault" MISSION_TANKER, // 002 "Tanker" MISSION_PATROL, // 003 "Patrol" MISSION_NUCLEAR, // 004 "Nuclear" MISSION_STANDOFF, // 005 "ASuW" MISSION_STANDOFF, // 006 "ASuW-LR" MISSION_SEAD, // 007 "Sead" MISSION_SEAD, // 008 "Sead-LR" MISSION_GUIDED, // 009 "Precis" MISSION_GUIDED, // 010 "Precis-LR" MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 011 "GP" MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 012 "GP-LR" MISSION_ANTIRUN, // 013 "Anti-run" MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 014 "BAI" MISSION_ATA, // 015 "Intercept" MISSION_ATA, // 016 "Escort" MISSION_ASW, // 017 "ASW" MISSION_ASW, // 018 "ASW-LR" MISSION_AARMR, // 019 "AAmr" MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 020 "CAS" MISSION_AARMR, // 021 "AArm-LR" MISSION_DECOY, // 022 "Decoy" MISSION_DECOY, // 023 "Decoy-LR" MISSION_FERRY, // 024 "Ferry" MISSION_FERRY, // 025 "Patrol-2" MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 026 "GP-2" MISSION_ATA, // 027 "Intercept-2" MISSION_GUIDED, // 028 "Precis-2" MISSION_NUCLEAR, // 029 "SIOP-2" MISSION_ATA, // 030 MISSION_ATA, // 031 MISSION_ATA, // 032 MISSION_ATA, // 033 MISSION_STANDOFF, // 034 MISSION_STANDOFF, // 035 MISSION_STANDOFF, // 036 MISSION_STANDOFF, // 037 MISSION_STANDOFF, // 038 MISSION_STANDOFF, // 039 MISSION_STANDOFF, // 040 MISSION_STANDOFF, // 041 MISSION_STANDOFF, // 042 MISSION_STANDOFF, // 043 MISSION_SEAD, // 044 MISSION_SEAD, // 045 MISSION_SEAD, // 046 MISSION_SEAD, // 047 MISSION_ANTIRUN, // 048 MISSION_ANTIRUN, // 049 MISSION_ANTIRUN, // 050 MISSION_GUIDED, // 051 MISSION_GUIDED, // 052 MISSION_GUIDED, // 053 MISSION_GUIDED, // 054 MISSION_GUIDED, // 055 MISSION_GUIDED, // 056 MISSION_GUIDED, // 057 MISSION_GUIDED, // 058 MISSION_GUIDED, // 059 MISSION_GUIDED, // 060 MISSION_GUIDED, // 061 MISSION_GUIDED, // 062 MISSION_GUIDED, // 063 MISSION_GUIDED, // 064 MISSION_GUIDED, // 065 MISSION_GUIDED, // 066 MISSION_GUIDED, // 067 MISSION_GUIDED, // 068 MISSION_GUIDED, // 069 MISSION_GUIDED, // 070 MISSION_GUIDED, // 071 MISSION_ASW, // 072 MISSION_ASW, // 073 MISSION_ASSAULT, // 074 MISSION_ASSAULT, // 075 MISSION_ASSAULT, // 076 MISSION_FERRY, // 077 MISSION_ASSAULT, // 078 MISSION_ASSAULT, // 079 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 080 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 081 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 082 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 083 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 084 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 085 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 086 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 087 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 088 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 089 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 090 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 091 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 092 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 093 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 094 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 095 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 096 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 097 MISSION_UNGUIDED, // 098 MISSION_ATA, // 099 MISSION_ATA, // 100 MISSION_ATA, // 101 MISSION_ATA, // 102 MISSION_ATA, // 103 MISSION_DECOY, // 104 MISSION_TANKER, // 105 MISSION_TANKER, // 106 MISSION_TANKER, // 107 MISSION_AARMR, // 108 MISSION_AARMR, // 109 MISSION_DECOY, // 110 MISSION_DECOY, // 111 MISSION_DECOY, // 112 MISSION_PATROL, // 113 MISSION_PATROL, // 114 MISSION_PATROL, // 115 MISSION_NUCLEAR, // 116 MISSION_NUCLEAR, // 117 MISSION_NUCLEAR, // 118 MISSION_NUCLEAR, // 119 MISSION_ASW, // 120 MISSION_ASW, // 121 MISSION_ASW, // 122 MISSION_ASW, // 123 MISSION_ASW, // 124 MISSION_ASW, // 125 MISSION_ASW, // 126 MISSION_ASW, // 127 };
  2. Let's see, Fighter, Attack, Bomber shouldn't have any effect but as Eric alluded to, the loadout type and mapping does matter. I may be able to decode some of that for you this weekend (thank you for posting the scenario, that will tell me which DB you used to help with that decoding). The AI not launching aircraft to attack your bases in on purpose. The idea way back when is that in large part it was suicide but more importantly installations/bases were at a fixed location so the Long Range Attack 'patrols' gave the scenario author everything needed to execute effective attacks, potentially more potent than the AI would have managed as it haphazardly threw aircraft at the player's bases. The Tornados should attack your Su-33s if the Tornados are in formation patrols. I take it you think the AI should launch separate interception missions rather than depend upon aircraft already in the air? Waypoints on LR patrols, agreed, that'd be nice.

Saturday we visited some of the fallen service members that served the United States of America and made the ultimate sacrifice. It was encouraging to see the many visitors even before Memorial Day. We normally go on a random day in the Spring and Fall with few other visitors. This is one photo from that visit to Fort Snelling National Cemetery. I'd like to also recognize the families of those who died serving our country. Your burden is a heavy one as well to carry.
  4. TonyE replied to jugasa77's topic in General
The functionality doesn't exist in the core game nor in any easy to use add-on. Some players have tricked the game in the past (join air to the group they just took off from, arrange them, then split the planes into their own group) with limited success.
  5. TonyE replied to jugasa77's topic in General
Reminder of long and pretty thorough discussion (please keep adding!): @jugasa77 would you find utility it being able to change the weapons in mounts and/or magazines as you play? An example, if you fire all of your TLAMs out of your submarine and get the urge to fill them up again you would use a utility while playing to load them back up again. If that rather manual approach would help you enjoy the game more, that is a reasonable first step that one of us programmer types could accomplish.
  6. It does seem to be new territory. Are you thinking WWII timeframe or a similar concept applied to more modern units? Semi-random Googling https://www.turningpointsimulations.com/pbg.cfm https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/162739/gauntlet-operation-pedestal-august-11-13-1942 http://elderswargaming.blogspot.com/2018/03/operation-pedestal-convoy-wargame.html Getting closer to Harpoon paper with the mention of Mal Wright's Convoy rules https://maltagc70.wordpress.com/malta-convoys-operation-harpoon-operation-vigorous-casualty-list/operation-pedestal-report-of-commander-vice-admiral-e-n-syfret-cb/operation-pedestal-vessels/ OOB
  7. Can you try with the most recent beta? That will help us know if the issue has already been addressed (every now and again I tinker with the map redraw code). https://harpgamer.com/harpforum/topic/29035-current-files/
  8. Agreed, we need more information about your setup ohstop. I had sent you an installer in January with version 2021.001 but in your issue reports you tagged 2015.027. It can help to attach the se.log file for scenario editor issues and the ge.log file for game issues so se.log in this case. Thank you
  9. Welcome Welsher, yes, I can help you out. Can you forward your registration e-mail or an image of the CD showing your serial number to tonye@harpgamer.com? If it checks out, I'll set you up with the installer. I hope you'll consider purchasing the current version of the game at some point (holiday sale time in December really cuts the cost!). Please do not post your serial number in this thread or any other public forum, the game is not abandonware nor freeware at this time.
  10. Thank you to those who came to chat. We started implementing a couple of pieces of functionality during the sessions. 1. The ability to change the depth of individual submarines in the Unit window. This is useful in situations such as SSN pickets for a carrier group and you may want them at a depth other than the default. 2. The ability to fire torpedoes bearing-only. This can be very useful when combined with donaldseadog's Toolbox ExportDLL.
  11. TonyE replied to TonyE's topic in Wish Lists
Suggest leveraging the AltSpeed Event here which can be applied to an individual unit in the group. This would perhaps be a good addition to the Unit window which currently only allows changing of sensor status per unit.
  12. TonyE posted a topic in Wish Lists
Add the ability to change a submarine's depth when it is part of a non-submarine group. Have the AI bring a submarine to a shallower depth if needed to avoid grounding. For a bonus, return it to the pre-deviation depth once the water becomes deep enough again. Compress a group formation to fit a narrow spot. For a bonus, return it to the pre-deviation formation after passing the narrows.

Way to go gentlemen, I hope I can catch up to this thread at some point, a little too busy to follow at present. Don, let me know what you need from the shared code, I've made some updates but there is as always quite a bit more that can be done.
  15. TonyE replied to Byron's topic in General
There isn't but I like where the other guys are going. I believe we can tell the missile when to turn on its seeker and the game could calculate it so that it turns on the sensor once the missile passes the disabled ship.
  16. TonyE replied to Byron's topic in General
Welcome Byron! I took a quick look at torpedo drop points the other day and didn't find a super-easy way to have the air dropped torps drop right over the target but haven't given up yet.
  17. Yes, anyone want to see if the victory conditions are already fine-grained enough to isolate a particular class of aircraft? I also appreciate that there was no suggestion to add modelling of communications networks, everything suggested Rescue is within the realm of reason!
  18. Thank you for posting, I'm sure this will help others in the future! Plus you scared up donaldseadog who wrote the toolbox
  19. Can you zip and upload a saved game from just before you initiate refueling? For sure the tanker should not be empty after filling up 002.
  20. Rescue, we're always open to home-grown game rules. What do you think these juicy targets should do for the player?

Should anyone want to buy me a present, Mizu Super Yachts look a whole lot like warships on the outside and would be a prime choice of gift. Now if anyone does give me such a gift, I'll take it for one cruise, put it up for sale, quit my job, and write warfare simulations for the rest of my life. So win-win for all of us, right? MIZU 174' Oceanfast Superyacht For Sale Oceanfast Yachts (denisonyachtsales.com) [just an example]
  22. In game terms all they are to the side with them is a burden that you try to keep from getting shot down.
  23. Please give 2021.006 a try and let us know how it goes.
  24. TonyE replied to TonyE's topic in General
HCE - 2021.006 - 2021-03-02 =========================== - Chg:00000 GE Capped staff_warn messages at 32 before resetting the staff assistant. Additional code tweaking as compared to 2021.001. (thanks eeustice) - Chg:00000 GE More dialog window sizing work. Now we restore the size, not just the upper-left corner for: Main window, Group window, Unit window, Strategic Map window, Message Log window, Mini Report window. Note for the future, the Strategic Map window isn't sizable so we shouldn't restore the size.
  25. Never mind, turns out on the machine I listed above, the Group, Unit, Message Log, etc. window sizes are not restoring properly so I can recreate the issue here without any additional information from you at this time. Expect a new build the first half of the week.
