  1. Yes, we should release an official patch sometime! Hopefully the game keeps getting sold in 2022 and we can send a patch to Matrix for packaging and distribution.
  2. I hear you, I was pretty disappointed when the jewel cases stopped coming with printed manuals. Since you haven't expressed an undying need for a physical copy, I won't plan on tracking one down for you.
  3. Regrettably true, no physical media anymore. Were you hoping for a physical copy for sentimental reasons or?
  4. Broncepulido brought this up again via e-mail, a bit different situation. If there is no minimum victory condition defined for a side, should the game evaluate the Total victory conditions? I think yes. Similarly, if there is only minimum victory defined, should total victory be granted once minimum victory is reached for that side? I'm less sure about this one. Was there an intent that a side could achieve minimum victory but not total victory unless all enemy units were destroyed?
  5. A couple of requests: 1. Can you post as a zip file instead of a 7-zip file? While I'm a big fan of 7-zip, a lot of users will not have the ability to unzip the file. 2. Please include orders files (1GIUK.BLm, 1GIUK.RDm) that you can create in the Orders Writer application, OrdWrite.exe. Happy to help if needed and thank you for posting a scenario!
  6. Welcome Rho! a. No, there is not a way to go beyond the maximum dimensions. Someday hopefully and we've done various proof of concepts over the years but never matched the raw performance of the Group and Unit windows as they exist today. b. Hmm, if you play the files directly, do you still have excessive static? They are in the Sounds subdirectory of the game so in C:\Matrix Games\HUCE\Sounds in a default installation. You could certainly swap in your own. They don't sound the cleanest to me but I don't find them overly noisy so am curious if it is a strange interaction between the files and your hardware. Also, see a user mod
  7. Astutely entered as a wishlist item. There is no existing setting to tweak the AI. It launches a reasonable number but then on the next cycle it spaces out that it already launched missiles at the target.
  8. Yep, the scrolling gets annoying, it is one of the first things I change after installing the game.
  9. Yes, with the game closed/not running, delete DigMilArt.dll (or move it out of the directory or change the extension to something other than .dll. When you next fire up the game, the bar will be gone.

Here is a copy with chance of inclusion for every unit and group set to 100%. Break The Barrier_all100.zip
  13. Get the bits hot off of the press, on sale for $9.60 USD. Buy a few extra copies for yourself, your neighbors, your friends, your enemies! https://www.matrixgames.com/game/larry-bonds-harpoon-ultimate-edition

I took a go at modifying it here with the debugger and set your carrier and its aircraft to 100% chance of inclusion. Attached is the modified scenario. I see a lot of the other units have a less than 100% chance of inclusion. Was that intentional? For instance Trafalgar 4% chance of inclusion, Vanguard 4% chance of inclusion, Rafael Peralta 14% chance of inclusion, Wasp 14% chance of inclusion, ... Break The Barrier.zip
  15. Can you send a saved game shortly before the crash and any instructions to reproduce the crash? Also, if you could post the first 10 lines or so of your GE.log file that'll give information about what version of the game you are using.

The "Why" is that the carrier and its planes have only a 10% chance of inclusion instead of 100%. I'm not sure how that happened but that is why the carrier only rarely appears, probably an accidental press of the delete key. There are two ways to fix. 1. Delete and recreate the group. 2. Ask me to modify the scenario file and post it back here with the carrier and planes set to 100% chance of inclusion. <GROUP id="ACC" uuid="17582db5-4df9-4950-98af-bbb9be59bd10" side="BLUE" lat="56.415275" lon="-32.671454" inclusion_chance="100"> <UNITS> <UNIT percent_chance="10"> <CLASSNAME>Bush (2009)</CLASSNAME> <NAME name_offset="141234" name_length="15" name_db="0">George HW Bush</NAME> <PLANE percent_chance="10"> <NAME>SH-60B Seahawk</NAME> </PLANE> ... </UNIT>

Byron, can you post up the scenario file and the xml file as well (ideally in a zip file but I'll take what I can get) or e-mail. Then I can see "oh, you added such and such a carrier"
  18. Agreed, from above <g> ", build in filters to make selection easier (i.e. search for F-14 rather than scrolling to Iran or USA then finding right platform as we do today)."

1.62 was still Classic, splash screen shows both Alliance Interactive and ACSI. The Advanced Scenario Design Workshop created the EC2000 BattleSets. It was released in 1996 just like HC97. You get an extra hint of that on the back of the HC97 box where it says copyright 1994, 1996 Alliance Interactive, Inc. While just a guess, my thinking is that the 1.62B release was mostly coded in 1994 and just had to wait for EC2000 to be ready to be packaged.
  20. Brad is pointing out that that Flight II ships don't have hangars. The follow-on Flight IIA Burkes such as Farragut do have the hangar bays. Arleigh Burke-class destroyers Flight II ships Decatur Donald Cook Higgins Mahan McFaul O'Kane Porter Flight IIA ships 5"/54 variant Oscar Austin Roosevelt 5"/62 variant Bainbridge Bulkeley Carl M. Levin Chafee Chung-Hoon Daniel Inouye Delbert D. Black Dewey Farragut ... See also https://whitefleet.net/2017/07/31/the-arleigh-burke-class-destroyer-ddg-51-an-in-depth-guide/ However, Flight I and II ships lack an enclosed hangar. Flight IIA and III ships have enclosed aviation facilities for two MH-60R medium helicopters. This is one of the most significant differences between Flight IIA and Flights I and II.

1.62 is still Harpoon Classic, it just happens to be a 16-bit Windows application that could run on Windows 3.1, 95, ... so any 16 or 32-bit version of Windows version 3.1 or newer (cue somebody making it run on 3.0!). Here is a composite of three screenshots showing both the version and that EC2000 was included. Note that like earlier Harpoon Classic versions, it has the fixed layout of windows as opposed to Harpoon 97 where you can resize and re-arrange the Group, Unit, Strategic Map, and Report Window. Harpoon 97 marked the conversion of the Game Engine (GE) to be a 32-bit application meant for Windows 95 and newer.

Byron, please give this instrumented copy a try. Attempt to set a scenario duration after starting the scenario editor. Once it crashes, e-mail me or post the se.log file. That log file should show me where the crash happens in the code so we can further troubleshoot. https://harpgamer.com/temp/HC2021.008GESEPEDUBSBBSOW.zip

I'll have some suggestions as well but don't have them worked up yet. There seems to be some mixing of the HC and H2 lineages in the section including and around Harpoon 3. The introduction of my involvement can hopefully be modified as well. From a 30 year simulation perspective, I came in with Bret and Byron, and Saul, and Ed but in reality they did all of the lobbying and wrote HC2002 before I even caught wind. I was a lowly beta tester happy to help out. I made a post with photo earlier in this thread mentioning EC2000 being released with a WinHarp (16-bit Windows) just before Harpoon 97 was released. I think you missed that particular release in your anthology. Thanks again, at some point I'll get my more detailed observations assembed.

Awesome, I'll have to add links to your site a in a few places. Thank you for sharing!
  25. My mental analogy to 'b' is a hardware store. You sit at home building a list of what you want, a small subset of what the store stocks. Go to the store, buy everything on your list, go home and start on your project. Then you realize you need three more parts, go to the hardware store, buy some more. Rinse and repeat. It works but isn't as great as having the who inventory of the hardware store right outside your door. It may well be the optimal place to start, we can always build the teleporter to the hardware store 'a' later.
