  1. That's the horse I backed when we first added the mobile land units. Doesn't seem any scenarios have been made that way though. It would also really only apply when land v land combat was expected.
  2. In previous versions (HC Gold and before), I recall there was some info within the Help facility. I didn't find that stuff in the HCE Demo, so I just assumed that the Help facility had been omitted from the HCE Demo version. (?) There is a PDF manual as well (the full game manual). You should have a shortcut in the start menu or look in the Manuals folder of the game folder.
  3. Whoo hoo, one I can answer Land unit operation is different due to the short distances involved. HC uses group center to group center distances for many targeting operations and when unit spacing tends to be greater than weapon range group center to group center calculations make for a game of groups chasing each other in tight little circles and never firing (funny as it may be to watch). So Land operations have to be micromanaged. The AI has the upper hand as it can check if units are in range every second. The player tends not to like to do that. Sure it screams for some staff assistance (and for a while we did let friendly ground units auto-fire on enemy ground units) but the manual route can work now and again. I can destroy a T-72 or two with the M-1s in WestPac 1.0 pretty regularly but I lose in the end too and bring in aircraft.

Hehe, AI is fine. In regards to radar detections I still have to suggest giving the radar logging a try to give you concrete numbers on when the AI detects you and with what platform(s).
  5. Thanks for taking a look at the demo. There is the full game PDF manual with the demo. Some of the files at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...&showcat=12 will also be of use (keyboard command cards, WestPac 1.0 orders file (a good first scenario)). I've also attached a quickstart guide that may be pertinent. The big differences between the games go beyond what you list. A general consensus would be that H3 models small engagements better and HC handles larger engagements better. They are very different games in so many ways that trying to demos to see if you need to buy both, one, or none is imho the best route. The AI sucks in both games but good scenario design also makes up for that in both games. I'll hazzard a guess that H3 has more scenarios but both games have many hundreds of scenarios and only a handful of people have played all of the scenarios for either game (and one Herman Hum who has played every scenario for both games that he can get his hands on). 6. Missiles are indeed 'interesting'. Your phrasing made me chuckle! SAMs should adhere to ROF over the 60 second period but they are not evening distributed over the 60 seconds and many circumstances (target saturated already) may mean far fewer than the ROF # of missiles being fired.

Sorry to hear that Akula, lost one myself not long ago but luckily had run a complete backup just that morning and bigger surprise that the backup was valid! Hope your machine has a speedy recovery.
  8. I undertook a half hour search for my notes too and found nothing, someone stole the runway length data!
  9. If you aren't tinkering with the RCS spreadsheet you might find it enlightening http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...amp;showfile=28 As for where the existing RCS numbers come from other than broadly from the paper annexes (and fine tuned by the tastes of the DB author) I have no idea

Merry Christmas one and all. May your every Harpoon related gift request be fulfilled!
  11. Yup, you know with my extensive paper wargaming experience (let's see, finished zero Harpoon, Gulf Strike,... scenarios)(did finish a run thru War at Sea ) there are few more capable . At least I'm good at looking up rules in the H4.1 manual!
  12. Yay, I get to help interpret rules and put down revolts, should be an interesting new challenge
  13. Sounds like a great time Pete, looking forward to hearing more when next the battle is continued!

Sounds wrong to me. If you set the ASW and Picket rings to radar On then those patrols would in theory turn on radars right after launch. Can you work up a small test scen (one carrier with a few planes, one enemy ship or sub) and verify the problem still occurs? Then write up an issue report in the issue tracker (including the scenario and any pertinent saves). Thank you!
  15. TonyE replied to TonyE's topic in General
The counter-fire situation is fixed. I was able to fire a torpedo, but not guns. Nice work . When looking at B142 it may help to run the test save from the issue report in the demo to understand what it going on. That may give insignt on how to strip Middleweights (I think that's the root scen) to test with the non-demo build.
  16. purdy, thanks for sharing Brad

My 2 cents... I'd delete the harpoon folder and reinstall. I wouldn't wipe my entire Mac . I've seen 3.6.3 downloads indicate 3.6.2 as well. In any event 3.6.2 and 3.6.3 are similar enough you may want to stick with the 3.6.2. DB2000 is a huge modification of the game that tends to work very well with the scenarios written for that database. If you get tempted by DB2000 you can visit http://www.warfaresims.com/forum where the people who made the DB reside.

More progress the last week or so, the 15" radius loop is in AND operational! Well, except for switch machines. The second photo is under the layout, yep, each piece of track is insulated then connected below in the hopes of adding signalling and block occupancy tracking down the road.

Just downloaded and installed it. Thx for another update, Tony. Got a crash though. Since this was the first time I ran HCE under Windows 7 - are there any known problems regarding HCE under Win 7? Regards, Ralf No known problems with Win 7 (my daily OS for a couple of months now). How can I replicate the crash? Thanks Ralf. Tony
  20. Hehe, perhaps interested in advisory council, rules interpretation, tools modifying

  23. Database issue (0DP platform) resolved.
  24. Fixed in some other tanking code changes sometime before 2009.049. Checked in 2009.049 and landing choice is correct and correctly honored.
