  1. Tony, I also DL'd the USNI demo to play around with, and it happens there as well. Again, only in WestPac. Buddha
  2. Since upgrading to the lates version (2008.033), and possibly before, I'm having display problem when I play any WestPac Scenario and use Formation Editor. Instead of seeing appropriate Unit Icons, I get black boxes (see attached). This hasn't occured in any of the other Scenarios I've tried in any BS excepr WestPac. Buddha
  3. Certainly workable. Doesn't that leave an explorer window open behind Harpoon, and using up RAM be being open? Buddha Hehe, yes, but what's your point? Having Outlook open uses RAM, so does VMWare, and a virus scanner, and anti-spyware, programs use RAM, yes . That explorer window also gives me quicker access to whatever copy of the PE I want to run, or the SE, or whatever else. All true, Tony. I guess I tend to be a little stingy with RAM usage, a habit from the old days when 8 megs of RAM was a lot no doubt. Also, Vista has some really weird memory conflict issues that I haven't totally figured out yet, so I try to run as few things as possible. Buddha

  5. Tony, As regards the Start Menu Icons, what version of Windows are you running? With Vista, I noticed the same thing. All the menu labels were truncated so as to make them impossible to tell apart. I found that by R-Clicking on the Task Bar and selecting Classic Start Menu, you get the same layout as XP, and you can see the full titles of all of your shortcuts and solve the problem. If you choose to stay with the Vista style, the only thing that I found that works is to hold the mouse pointer over the shortcut and watch the baloon for the correct file to run. Buddha
  6. Akula, For what it's worth, I've played around with this multiple DP stuff quit a bit, and if there's an easier way to do it than what you describe, I haven't found it. I'd like to figure out a way to automate the process, but since I'm not a programmer, the odds of that are pretty slim. Buddha
  7. Tony, Since we're talking Vista here, you're far from alone. At least half of the software out there has these problems. That's why I wanted to check. I curse the day I got a Vista system. Buddha
  8. The latest release of the BS Builder is a welcome and long-awaited feature of Harpoon. I've noticed that on my system, I periodically get alerts that the program has "Stopped Working" or the famous "Not responding". Closing the alerts without acknowledging them seems to let the builder do its job OK. I was wondering if this is a widespread problem, or just another in a long list of Vista annoyances. Buddha

Tony, I think I have the latest full installer, but I wanted to check to be sure. The following link http://www.harpgamer.com/beta-hc/HCE_Installer-2008.024.exe reports page not found. Am I doing something wrong here? Thanx, Buddha
  11. Ralf, I had the same problem with being shot straight to a scenario. After you get into the scenario, go to File/New, and uncheck the box labeled "Enable Instant Action". Someone here assisted me in this regard, but unfortunately I can't remember who it was. I guess the function is designed for the times you just want a quick game without making any decisions before you start playing. As to sound, I also have a brand new Vista PC, and sound isn't a problem. Nothing with this miserable Vista would surprize me, though. Buddha

Try ro remove a scen from a saved battlset and resave the settings under the same file name.... B) I must be missing something, cause I don't understand what you mean. I believe the idea is to delete the scenario you wish to delete, open the BS builder, open the BS, and resave it with any other scenarios you wish to include.

For what it's worth to this discussion, when I was an AIC on the Midway, we used to run what we called MASs (Maritime Air Superiority) where an EA-6B would hold hands with an F-4 simulating an ASCM platform and weapon, and I'd attempt to intercept the "ASCM" after separation from the platform with another F-4. If the EA-6B is anywhere near as effective against enemy radar systems as it was against ours, the enemy is going to have a rough time of it. Buddha

I know I've got the latest Beta (2008.023), so I just must have missed them somehow. Is there a setup function to turn them on and off? If so, I may have turned them off without knowing it. Buddha

I hate to show my ignorance here, but are you guys talking about HCE or H3? I don't recall ever seeing a lightning bolt in HCE. Buddha

    I agree completely. Buddha
  17. Very humorous, Tony. Actually, it seems a useful feature if you just want to sit down and play a quick game withiout straining your brain too much getting started. I would suggest renaming the function to "Random Scenario" or something like that, though. "Enable Instant Action" sounds like it has some sort of effect on how quickly contact is made in the selected scenario, such as enemy units starting within sensor range as opposed to search and localization being necessary. Just a thought. Buddha
  18. This guy reminds me of when I went to Intel Collection school in San Diego back in the late '70s. They were discussing the biographical dossiers kept on various world leaders that were available. On the subject of Idi Amin, it was stated that the only thing we really knew about him was that he was a total lunatic and there was no telling what the hell he might do at any given time. Kim strikes me somewhat the same. Buddha
  19. In this build the hook for instant action is set. Go via "new" to the selction screen and uncheck "instant action" That seems to have done it, thanx. I hate to admit it, but in all my years playing Harpoon, I never noticed that "Instant Action" box before, or if I did, I never knew what it did. Buddha
  20. I just DL'd ansd installed 2008.021, and when I load the game the old opening sequence seems to be gone. By that I mean, I'm not presented with any Battleset or Scenario menus, it just goes straight to a scenario, seemingly at random. To load a specific Battleset/Scenario, read the Orders, etc. it is necessary to allow the random scenario to load and then select File - New from the pulldown menu. At this point I can select a Battleset, Scenario, read the Orders and select game options. Hardly a disaster by any means, but a little inconvemient. Buddha

I've also noticed a lack of sound during hit animations. Buddha
  22. I believe the problem mentioned regarding strike A/C finding another target within the group is similar, if not the same, as 0002007 in Mantis reported by me in March of last year. Mantis shows it as assigned, if that's any help. Buddha
  23. ok first fault game wants to instal to c:\c:\matrix\hce The double c:\ only happened with my Vista machine; the XP was fine. Larry G wombat1417 Haven't had this problem with Vista, which is surprising since Vista has caused me just about every other conceivable problem with every piece of software I own. Buddha
  24. According to this writeup: http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/events/...c-42/dooltl.htm The intent was allways to continue to China after the raid. Buddha
