My sister-in-law is Israeli, and although she and my brother live in Seattle, she has family in Israel. From what she says, they don't know much more about what the IDF has in mind than we do. When I was in the KSA during Gulf War I, a picture was printed on page 1 of the local paper showing a cormorant covered with oil as a result of Saddam's despicable decision to pump crude into the water of the gulf. I believe the photo was distributed fairly widely at the time, and I'm trying to find it available for download someplace. I was working in Saudi Arabia as a civilian at the time, and one of Uncle Saddam's Scuds went off in the desert and blew the windows out of the back of my house. Passing out on the couch that day was the luckiest thing I ever did. Strange as it may sound, seeing that poor bird covered with oil ticked me of more than anything else I experienced during the war, and I'd really like to find the pic. Thanx, Buddha

I think you have something hosed up again, the BS Builder in 2008.043 (it isn't version 2008.043 but is in that download) should be placing the hdsu.rsr file and it should be about 338kB every time. I just verified the theory on my own 2008.043 install. The hdsu.rsr file also should not grow in size as you add scenarios, but hdsu.res will grow in size. hdsu.rsr only grows if you embed the database in the battleset and then grows as you add photos to the database. You sure have something creative going on In the interest of figuring this out, I did the following. I removed my hdsu.res and .rsr files to another folder. I then used the BS Builder to create a BS covering the area around the Philippines. BS Builder performed as advertised, and the hdsu.res file was created in my Harpoon folder. hdru.rsr was NOT created. I opened the SE, and was immediately warned that hdsu.rsr could not be found. I cleared this alert , and then the SE opened as usual, with my new BS displayed as available. I chose this BS, and was warned that the file hdsu.rsr was not available. This time, I had to clear the alert 3 times, but then the new BS opened normally. I constructed and saved a small 2 unit scenario to see what would happen. Opening the GE at this point resulted in me having to clear the hdsu.rsr not found alerts repeatedly, but in the end, everything ran OK. Copying an empty rsr file to another folder, renaming it to hdsu.rsr and moving it back to my Harpoon at this point did away with all the alerts. Doing this right after creating the BS also avoided any "File can't be opened" hassles. If this is a problem I just have to live with, I consider it a small price to pay for being able to create my own Battle Sets. But if it's a bug in the program, I thought you should know about it. Tony, Something else I've noticed now that I have this working finally. The BS Builder creates the hdsu.res file and puts it in the HCE folder, but I'm back to manually creating the hdsu.rsr file by copying and renaming an empty one from the folder. In my case I used hdsq.rsr, which was empty, and renamed a copy and moved it back. I'm just guessing, but the mechanics involved here seem to indicate that the .res file holds the BS data and the .rsr file holds the associated scenarios. I base this on the fact that once I add a scenario to the new BS, the .rsr file increases in size. Is this normal, or do I have something hosed up here again? Buddha

After using msconfig and disabling everything and then re enabling entries one by one, I've concluded the BS Builder problem I was having was caused by something called "stlssvr". A google search reveals that it has something to do with a sound card app on Dell systems, and has caused problems with various other things for other users. Based on the posts I read, I disabled it, and the BS Builder now works fine. I have noticed no sound related problems as a result of disabling it, so until I do, I'll assume it's one of those things that sometimes seem to come with your system that serve no discernible purpose. The fact that it seems to be unique to Dell may explain why not everyone has the BS Builder difficulties I was experiencing. Buddha

I tried associating each of the new pic's with a platform and then exporting. All appeared correctly in the Platform Display when running the GE. Buddha

I think we've all experienced that nonsense. In this case, I went to the site trying to track down an old buddy from the days of 'Nam (successfully, I might add), and signed up for the newsletter out of curiosity. They've never hit me with anything but the periodic newsletter, which is all military related stuff, including occasional quiz games like this one. Buddha

Since upgrading to .042, I have been unable to run the BS Builder. On the rare occasions that I can get past "Not Responding", I get the attached error message. Also, a shortcut named "DelRes" suddenly appeared in the Harpoon menu group. I'm not sure what that does. Any suggestions, anyone? Buddha

That´s the normal behaviour when you switch dbs and the Annex No is used in both dbs Regards René Rene Thanx. If I switch back to the HCDB database, Ascension still appears in the proper place in my test scenario. The only difference is that the name of the facility shows as Kabul. Buddha

All the sounds play fine here. As an old CV sailor, I can say they sound authentic as well. I still remember the days of the old PC internal speaker, and its next to useless output. A sound blaster was an immediate purchase for me as soon as it became available. As to the gaming experience, many players often take the sound for granted as something that's just "there". Try playing the game with your speakers unplugged sometime, and you'll see how much it contributes to the enjoyment of playing. Buddha
