2008.042 Release Notes

Featured Replies

HCE - 2008.042

==============

- Chg:0000 GE Torpedo acquisition range now converted internally from yards

to DUs. 3.260943 yards = 1 DU.

- Chg:0000 BS WestPac 1.0 orders section 11, "in tact" changed to "intact"

(thanks Larry)

http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?s...;showtopic=2922

- Chg:0000 PE Changed "LRMTS" flag to "NOE - Nap of the Earth" flag.

- Chg:0000 BS Added descriptions for the four new battlesets.

(thanks Brad)

- Chg:0000 BS Radically changed boundaries of South Atlantic BattleSet to

fit Ascension on the map.

- Chg:0000 BS Removed sample scenarios from the four new battlesets.

I think you'll just have to trust me on the first one, Brad will need to update the DB to bring the units back to Yards there before things settle into what they should be. I think the rest are easy enough to test (to test LRMTS, just import a DB and make sure you see NOE... instead of LRMTS).

If it answers the question, after DLing and installing the latest (042), and importing the DB, I do see NOE - Nap of the Earth as an available flag in the Aircraft section.

You are correct sir, that does answer the question.

- Chg:0000 GE Torpedo acquisition range now converted internally from yards to DUs. 3.260943 yards = 1 DU. OK, I'll trust you.

- Chg:0000 BS WestPac 1.0 orders section 11, "in tact" changed to "intact" http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?s...;showtopic=2922 (thanks Larry) Yes.

- Chg:0000 PE Changed "LRMTS" flag to "NOE - Nap of the Earth" flag. Already done.

- Chg:0000 BS Added descriptions for the four new battlesets. (thanks Brad) Yes.

- Chg:0000 BS Radically changed boundaries of South Atlantic BattleSet to fit Ascension on the map. If it's there, I can't see it.

- Chg:0000 BS Removed sample scenarios from the four new battlesets. Yes.

Also:

Installs correctly over .024.

There's no Uninstaller.

Will the new battlesets have imbedded databases or be part of the Common DB? The CDB is getting too big and unwieldy. I think it's going to need some kind of index, where you can type in a county and have only its units or bases pop up.

Thanks Larry, hehe, wrong to take my word for the yards to DU, I've had trouble with that from day one.

2025 yards = 1 nm

6211 DU = 1 nm (I have to double check this, may be 5211)

therefore, there are not 3.26... yards per DU. I'll verify my story when I'm in front of the code again.

It seems to be Matrix's policy that there be no uninstallation of individual versions, only the entire game. I do make sure to edit the installer script to make backup copies of core files from the previous version. THey are stored in the Backups directory within your HCE install.

We chatted about embedded DB for the new battlesets on IRC a few days ago and decided for now we'll stick with the CDB with the understanding that something will have to be done in the future.

So still left for 2008.042 testing...

1. Make sure Ascension is visible when you create a scenario using the South Atlantic BS (HCDA database has Ascension in it)

I'll have to fix the DU to yards torpedo seekers in the code for the next build. We should have a HCDB with the correct values at that time as well.

Tony,

Latest release, HCDA database, Ascension visible here with no problem in the South Atlantic BS. I viewed it in the SE and in a test scenario in the GE. BTW, I hate to show my ignorance, but what the devil is a DU?

Another note which may be of interest. If I switch back to the HCDB database, Ascension still appears in the proper place in my test scenario. The only difference is that the name of the facility shows as Kabul.

That´s the normal behaviour when you switch dbs and the Annex

No is used in both dbs

Thanx. I didn't really view it as a problem, more of a curiosity that someone familiar with the inner workings of the DBs might want to know about. I guess the original question was if the location shows in the newest release, which it does , for me anyway.

A DU is a "Distance Unit", outside of that I've found no reference to it outside of the HC code so I don't think it is a standard way to divvy up distances.

  • Author

Confirmed that there are 6211 DU per nautical mile

6211 DU = 1 nm

2025.37183 yards = 1 nm

Therefore 1 yard = 3.066597 DU

1 DU = 0.326094 yards
