I wonder, would a quick and dirty scenario with a red ASuW unit, a few red merchies and blue merchies in the same area produce the desired results? At least it would be a more controllable test.

YAY! I'll give this a go tomorrow when I'm not half asleep.

I had some free time today, and might be able to work on the others tomorrow. Also nice to see that the SE bug I found was confirmed and not just me being special again.
  4. If you were to add in a 'Flying Dutchman' that information could be very usefull...
  5. I can do that, I'll just mod the test scen with the Staff Note test by taking the aircraft back off the ships. The Chinese (red) group was the culprit. HELOPROB.zip
  6. Defect Name: Aircraft added to ship that is not highlighted Build: HCE 2009.18 Repeatable: Y Operating System: XP DB used: Official Scenario used: NA Long Description: Aircraft are being added to the wrong ship in the SE. Sequence to reproduce: 1. Build a new scenario with a group of 2+ ships that are Helo or aircraft capable and have differening landing platform sizes. 2. Choose one of the ships and add an aircraft. 3. Choose a ship with a different sized landing pad than that of the original. 4. Rechoose your aircraft and add it. 5. The aircraft will likely appear on the originally selected platform. Expected behaviour: Planes should be added to the highlighted ship, not the one you have previously added aircraft to. Observed behaviour: If there are two ships with differening landing pad sizes, the aircraft for the most recently selected will appear on the originally selected ship unless you re-highlight the currently highlighted ship after choosing the aircraft type. No Save file with this being an SE related problem.

Attached is a test scenario. Play it for at least 2 minutes as either side and you will see that it is in fact working as intended now. SNTEST.zip

Been busy at work again, I'll try to confirm this update sometime today or tomorrow.
  9. If our government wasn't busy driving their stretch limo's down the street throwing money out the windows at anything that moves (or doesn't) we wouldn't have that huge debt.

On the staff messages thing. These are messages for the player that you as a designer enter in during the SE phase right? So if I wanted to make a reminder that you have B-1s at Diego Garcia for example, I would target Diego, enter the message "Hey you got bombers down here at Diego' and in theory it will show up for the player during the game, right?
  11. OK, taking a look at it closely... 1) They are behind a concrete berm. 2) They are shell shaped. 3) I can see the remnants of a what could be a loading gantry. 4) they are very large. 5) They could very well be in shipping containers. Note the large bottom cylinder and the caps over where the fuses should be. I'm going to make another guess that these are shells for a large (14-16") coastal battery.
  12. I think you are right mack, those very well could be aerial dropped sea mines.
  13. Those look a lot like 12" or 14" coastal defence mortar shells.
  14. I couldn't agree more with your statement, Brad. Hey, Warhorse! What's your take on this one? Buddha Honestly, it's about time someone called it exactly what it is. Bravo to Mr. Mackay for not being afraid to speak his mind.
  15. I'm assuming the point of this is a way to walk a new or novice 'pooner through the strategies and tactics of any given sitation. A sort of tutorial?
  16. Don't feel bad, I pretty much need a calculator for anything more advanced than 2 + 2.
  17. Here is the complete calculation for this situation. I am going to modify the situation slightly for ease of calculation. Premise: I have a base at which 3 different units, A, B, C, may or may not appear. Each unit has an appearance probability of 1/3. So the probability of any unit NOT appearing is 2/3. Each appearance probability is independent of all the others. Outcomes: All 3 units appear: 1/3 x 1/3 x 1/3 = 1/27 Two units appear: 1/3 x 1/3 x 2/3 = 2/27 (can happen 3 different ways) One unit appears: 1/3 x 2/3 x 2/3 = 4/27 (can happen 3 different ways) No units appear: 2/3 x 2/3 x 2/3 = 8/27 Total probability: 1/27 + (3 x 2/27) + (3 x 4/27) + 8/27 = 27/27 = 1 (i.e. it is guaranteed that one of the possible outcomes actually happens. If the total probability does not equal one, there is a mistake in the calculation.) Average number of units appearing: (3 x p3) + (2 x p2) + (1 x p1) + (0 x p0) = (3 x 1/27) + (2 x 3 x 2/27) + (1 x 3 x 4/27) + (0 x p0) = (3 + 12 + 12)/27 = 27/27 = 1 One of the units appears on average, and each one is equally likely. The average result can be obtained by just looking at the statement of the premise, but the individual outcomes need to be calculated in detail. Ok, now that I can comprehend. And now I can even reproduce the results myself if I had to. Thanks Victor, you actually taught an old dog a new trick here.
  18. OK, since you have 3 groups each with a 1 in 3 chance of appearing, then wouldn't you have a 1 in 9 chance of all 3 showing up in any given circumstance? After all, you have 3 groups with 3 possible outcomes each. In order for all three to appear in the scenario, all 3 of the groups have to have the 1 result that allows them to be present. So you have 3 groups * 3 outcomes with only 1 possible outcome of the 9 total having all groups present, thus a 1 in 9 chance of having all 3 groups present in any given scenario. And before you get technical I suck at math but this is how I remember it from high school....16 years ago.
  19. Would also be nice if recon of a target prior to a strike would bump up the accuracy of an attack following it.
  20. Not exactly, you still have only a 33% chance of any of the aircraft showing up. Each group is working with its own variable, so the end result is that you have a 67% chance that none of those aircraft will make it in to the scenario.
