Potential choices for a first (and, eventually, follow-up) HCE Shakedown Scenario(s).

Please take the time to vote on these choices so we can start developing a "beginner's battleset" for HCE.

Ship (towed array) vs. submarine

Long Ranged Air-to-Surface anti-ship attack

Naval Group Air Defense

SEAD at Sea

Offensive Counter Air: Sweep and Escort

Airfield Denial

Barring any new (and quick) replies to the poll, the first scenario will be "ship (towed array) vs submarine" and will appear in Part 4 of Tactics 101: Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW).

I'm assuming the point of this is a way to walk a new or novice 'pooner through the strategies and tactics of any given sitation. A sort of tutorial?

Yes, with the eventual aim of producing enough scenarios to fill out a "beginner's battleset".

The first scenario of the series, pitting a submarine against a surface ship equipped with a towed array sonar, will soon be available.

It will also serve as the example for study in Tactics 101: Anti-Submarine Warfare Part 4.

If I can assist you with anything Brad give me a shout.

Not that you need it of course, but if needed some extra manpower, im here.

As discussed on IRC, I'm going to take you up on the offer of help, Terry. Scenario testing and whatever else comes up. Thanks for your kind offer! :)

May I just say that this is a great idea. A full battleset, with scenarios designed to illustrate and teach the concepts presented so well in the Tactics 101 series? This is so fully rational and as one would hope and expect in a more perfect world, that I fear I am still sleeping this morning, dreaming, and at any moment the alarm will go off and this will evaporate. And it won't even be Friday yet, either!

That's the objective, Eugene. It will no doubt take a while to put together, but many hands make light work, and if folks step forward to help write the scenarios, it'll go that much faster. ;)
