John McCain's former jailer speaks
When it comes to the truth about torture at the Hanoi Hilton, I think I'm going to believe Senator McCain and the rest of the US POWs who said it happened. Besides one of my co-workers has an uncle that had to endure the Hanoi Hilton, his stories are not pleasant.

What exactly needs to be checked in the PE? I must be overlooking it in the notes.

These are the ones I knew how to go about comfirming. I'm not very good at poking around inside the registry.- 2008.041 Release Notes
Worked fine once I made the hdsu.rsr file. Guess we can confirm that the BS builder is working. Also appears that the 4 new BS are loading correctly in GE as well.- 2008.041 Release Notes
Whoo hoo, thanks for doing this, I was really starting to think nobody is testing fixes and changes anymore! We've got some really old release notes that still need it too buys, on page 2 of this forum So all that is left for 2008.041 testing is the BS Builder, perhaps you can verify that the BS Builder works and spits out a useable Battleset? Thanks for the other notes, we've been told by DonG not to include the USNI Battleset, I can't claim to understand why but that's the word. One of these months we'll have the new USNI battleset anyway (the original scens rebuilt with a better database and the newer game mechanics). The Matrix launcher indeed was not included. I think since you had decent results with this build I'll start work on the installers for a Matrix release and will then include the Matrix launcher. OK, tested the BS builder. It built my little Japan map just fine, but when you attempt to open it in GE or SE, you get the following message: Unable to open the resource file c:/harpoon..... HDSU.rsr Not sure if I've done somethign wrong or if it has.- 2008.040 Release Notes
Westpac 2.0 As far as I can tell, the courses seem to be fixed, I did not have any ships run aground. For victory conditions, RED side got theirs within about 10 minutes of me starting. After sinking some 25 or so red ships, I was still unable ot trigger a blue victory. will have to make another run to test that sometime this weekend.- 2008.041 Release Notes
That fixed it. I did find the following in the directory (I apparantly had installed USNI and not realized it or forgotten). USNI.res, hdsm.res, and hdsu.res removed those 3 and it works fine now. And FYI, the SE never did have a problem, it was only the GE that would hang and not load.- 2008.041 Release Notes
BTW, went back to an older version of the GE and it works fine. So I'm really stumped on this one.- 2008.041 Release Notes
It makes it to the new splash screen, but then it won't load up the Battleset selection screen like it is supposed to. GE Log attatched. Ge.zip- 2008.041 Release Notes
I DL'ed and installed, and now when I try to open up HCE, the game hangs and stops responding. I have not been able to open the GE since I installed this patch.- Akula's Wishlist
I'd like to see a pop-up box option for intercepting aircraft that gives you the option to return them to base when they have completed their intercept or expended their missiles. Another option would be to have the 'land aircraft' option set their home base (base they launched from) as the default selection. When you are dealing with lots of AC and multiple bases, it can get confusing as to where each plane came from.- 2008.038 Release Notes
I can confirm that this one is fixed.- Jamming
Mmmm, not, but we can simulate it with short range of the chaff/flare/ecm, I suppose. i.e., 1,5-3 n.m., or so. That's possible, though it does turn the chaff/flare into an 'offensive' jamming weapon within that range envelope. Acceptable side effect, perhaps. With a limited ammo supply and a lower PH chance, I don't really see a problem with it TBH. So we treat it like a very short range PD gun...the idea behind these systems is to confused the seeker and make them miss...in essence this is a shoot down, as it does render the missile useless. The one problem would be the ability to shoot down enemy aircraft...the altitude band and range would have to be severely limited to prevent this. Just some rambling thoughts on the matter.- 2008.035 Release Notes
Confirmed as fixed. I loaded the savegame with no problems and have played through for several minutes now.- Assertion Failure on loading saved game
Just give me a bit of time, I'm sure I can break something else. Will test .035 tomorrow- Assertion Failure on loading saved game
And now the savegame. assertfail.zip- Assertion Failure on loading saved game
- Should damaged subs surface?
Tracking flooding would be good IMO. Once you lose 50% of your bouyancy, you are either going to have to blow the tanks and emergency surface or drown.- USNI demo
WestPac is becoming home of the monsters <g>. If Akula is pulling in a monster, maybe we can have a small scen to round things out (and maybe get Ralf's blessing for Backyard II to round it out at three scens instead of two). I wouldn't mind seeing Brad's Oubliette as the small scen, thoughts? Well if Brad would ever put Godzilla in the WestPac database we could could have a real monster to play with. I mean isn't that almost a must for a Pacific battleset? hehe- Formation Editor in WestPac
OK, I am using the little ship icons instead of the symbols. At first for me it looks as if they aren't there, however, closer inspection reveals the little blue ship icons...they are just incredibly hard to see on the black background (see attatchment). This is a WestPac scenario for reference. The Fix is probably either making the black boxes clear, or at least turn them lt grey. Red probably shows up well on the black, but the blue just gets completely lost in it.- Formation Editor in WestPac

It's probably not necessary, as only the files in the main directory affect what the GE reads. However, I did make a back-up copy of mine just in case. Basically it can't hurt, but may not actually be necessary. - 2008.026 Release Notes
