  1. Hmm, well option 1 is completely out. I have no idea how to even write a query, my programming skills are nil... Option 2 is looking better all the time...wonder who's feet I need to grovel at first... 3rd option: Lots of work, but copy to a Excel sheet and reenter all wanted by hand...obviously this would take a few...um...years...
  2. OK, I'm using the newly provided blank DB to make my own fictional database. What I want to know is this...since I plan to use many of the weapons and mounts in the current official DB, is there any possible way to copy those two annexes from the official DB into my fictional DB? (Trust me, I just went through the Installations DB and it was over 1000 bases, not including the double entries (IE red/blue) and SAM locations/Ground unit instances...ughh!) I've been reading the help files, but they may as well be written in a foreign language, as I can make no sense of them what so ever. If it is even possible, I'd need to know what to transfer and how to go about it.
  3. I just happened to notice these last 2 becuase the places they appeared in the SE seemed really odd. Like I noted with the Taiwanese base it appeared in mainlnd China, and Duncan ended up being in about the middle of Cambodia. Once I placed in the correct coordinates in the DB myself, they appear where they should, for me at least. I do realize that in some cases the coordinates aren't correct in order to simulate the existance of what would be an off-map base, example Diego Garcia. This is also true becuase no map is completely accurate...flat maps don't match up well with a 'globe' view. Basically I only bother checking the coordinates on the ones that look really odd when I use them in the SE. So long as its in the corect general area, I wouldn't even notice it. (And I'm certainly not going to go through every entry in the PE to check, I'm far to lazy for that...LOL).
  4. Found another error... Ducks and hides... Duncan Island (Paracels) currently at 16 30" North 103 0" East, should be 16 30" North 112 0" East.
  5. A hypothetical scenario that explores Japan making a surgical strike against North Korea's missile test center. This is not a leisurely task, as you have less than 24 game hours to complete the mission. The player should attempt to limit collateral damage, as the target is very specific. This is my first completed and released scenario, so feedback will be greatly appreciated.
  6. Not a request, just reporting a small error I encountered. Chihhang, Taiwan airbase is listed at 27 47'3" Lat by 121 10'5" Long...this is should be 22 47'3" by 121 10'5". Small error, but it puts the base in mainland China instead of on the island of Formosa. Thought you might like a heads up to be able to correct it.
  7. OK, little update on it. Reinstalled the newest version of the DB released here at Harpoongamer. Kaman (Early) now works fine. Kaman (Late) only causes a crash if you attempt to look at its weapons load. PTM Houdong produces the exact same error if you attempt to view the weapons. Is it possible that there is a corrupted mount/weapon in the database?
  8. Actually since you brought this up it reminds me... There are a couple of Iranian units (both versions of PTM Kaman) that always cause a crash when you attempt to view them in platform display in the SE. A corruption perhaps?
  9. HCCE B12: Scenario Editor: If you add a red base, but in your units, then 'close' the add installation editor, it takes you back to "Add Blue Base" instead of closing. It does this no matter what side base you just entered (of course if you are adding blue bases its actually quite usefull...LOL).
  10. If you've been watching the news lately then you've certainly seen Iran's boasting of their new weapons. I'm just wondering if their is enough info out there yet to add some of those weapons into the DB?
  11. IIRC, the last time I saw this was the original Three-Sixty version of the game, when all you had was the GUIK game then the expansion packs. The option was "Auto Formation Air Patrols", which would automatically launch ASW resources in formation editor. Granted it has been a LONG time since then (think late 80s to early 90s) so I may not be remembering 100% correctly...
  12. I may be exposing my lack of knowledge in such things but... Wouldn't an ASW weapon such as a Hedgehog or RBU 1200 also work on a contact mine? And if that is so you would end the ability to engage such mines with these weapons effectively if you changed the dp on the mines.
  13. Hmm, well after doing some research at the Naval Historical Center website, I'm convinced that its actually a Ticonderoga Class carrier, due to the shape of the bow and the fact that the photos show two 40mm mounts prominantly on the bow. The main reason the bow shape was changed on the Ticonderoga's was to allow the addition of additional 40 mm mounts. Now then, Ticonderoga's were simply the second batch of Essex class carriers, and included the 3 ships already mentioned. There were 13 total constructed of the Ticonderago class. The Ticonderogas had lengthened bows to allow for the additional guns, as well as the shape change, the only real difference between them and the Essex Class Carriers. As to which ship of the class it is...without seeing the pendant numbers, I have no way to tell. The Naval Historical Center Homepage: http://www.history.navy.mil/index.html You'll be able to find additional photos there.
  14. I think the biggest thing you will run into is getting the right weapons fit for the right time period. Remember that during WWII ships were being constantly upgraded in terms of equipment and weaponry, especially the addition of more and more AAA. The problem is going to be knowing which individual ship had which weapons at which time, since the ships were upgraded as they came into port. Some ships ended the war relatively unchanged from their 1941 configurations, while others in the same class were upgraded numerous times during the war. And while basically the ships all received the same upgrades (or at least plans) that isn't always what happened. Of course there are all types of resources on the web for the weapons fits, but it is difficult to find the upgrade progession for an individual ship.
  15. Another thing that cannot be accurately modeled with HC for WWII is the wide differences in training between the fighting countries: How does one show that the Japanese Air Force and Naval Air Forces at the start of the war were vastly superior to the Allied Air Forces? How does one model that Japenese warships were specifically trained to fight at night and in bad weather, where the Allies trained mostly in calm seas during daylight hours? Of course that completely reversed by the end of the war when both the JAF and Luftwaffe were vastly inferior to the allied forces, but you still have the same problem...how do you model the training aspect into the simulator which uses only raw numbers?
  16. Noticed it myself when I tried adding a few ships to the database over the weekend. Once I exported it to game, the names of several of the existing ships simply won't show up in the platform display. As far as I could tell, there were in there and working just fine, only the slots where the names should have shown up were blanks with nothing there...but it you clicked a blank spot you did get the correct information for the ship that should be in that slot.
  17. Here's a thought, what if you made it a short range 'nuke' with very low damage? Something that would be enough to sink the delivery boat but only damage a target ship? I'm just wondering if Nukes automatically kill anything they hit. Of course you'd have to grant nuclear release for that to work, but if you wanted to simulate such an attack it would seem to be a means to the end.

Going to take a quick guess here... Knowing that the KH-28 was introduced in 1971, and is an anti-radar missile, I'm going to say that the answer you are looking for is the original Hawk SAM.
  19. Hehe, well the trouble with that is that I'm usually running for my life by the time I get a good fix. But that does answer my question...I just have terrible luck.
  20. This is in the weapons database. I found that on all of them while going through the DB today. Is there a reason behind this? Checked Malafon, ASROC w/MK46, etc. Curious as to if this affects whether they work or not. Might explain why mine never seem to hit anything. LOL
  21. Thank you for the additions...this should allow me to put 'lead in the air' as the saying goes. Here's another request for the official DB. We have hardly any Libyan Bases. Unless I have totally overlooked them (which given the sheer magnitude of the list is entirely possible), I see only Tripoli and Tobruk.
  22. Well it wasn't even giving me a read only option. I'm guessing it was only partially opening the file, then if I tried to click on anything it would cause it to crash. So I went down the list of things to do and decided that trying to convert the file was preferrable to reinstalling Access (which was my next, and last, option). I'm just glad it worked.
  23. Thank you for the additions...this should allow me to put 'lead in the air' as the saying goes.
  24. OK, I figured it out. Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to track down. Seems I was using a newer version of Access than the DB used. Because of that, I needed to convert pfbuild2002.mdb (even though Access2000 was opening it, it could open, but attempting to read caused a crash), before I could successfully use the editor. Thought I'd post that tidbit in case anyone else runs into a similar problem.
  25. OK, I've installed the newest version of the beta, followed the on-site instructions to the letter, and when I try to open anying, the Access DB crashes to desktop. OK, I am using Access 2000. And I did not install the old run-time library, but from the instructions it didn't seem necessary. Anyone have ideas? I can give more info if needed. I am completely stumped on this one.
