Standoff ASW weapons set to 0 PH?

Featured Replies

This is in the weapons database. I found that on all of them while going through the DB today. Is there a reason behind this?

Checked Malafon, ASROC w/MK46, etc.

Curious as to if this affects whether they work or not. Might explain why mine never seem to hit anything. LOL

Yeah, this is correct. The relevant PH is with the weapon payload (torpedo, depth charge, etc).

Here's a tip for using the standoff ASW weapons. Never fire at a submarine that has an area of uncertainty, especially a large one. Make sure you get a good fix first. ;)

Hehe, well the trouble with that is that I'm usually running for my life by the time I get a good fix. :P

But that does answer my question...I just have terrible luck.

I hear ya. ;)

When I get a sub contact with an uncertain position, and the sub is already within lethal distance of me, I will immediately slow to creep speed (5 kt or less). Then I will use my helo (if I am lucky to have some) to hammer that contact with sonobuoys and/or active dipping sonar until I get that precise fix. Then comes the ASROC (or equivalent) or airborne lightweight torpedo (or both).

Btw, same deal for torpedoes. They are very inaccurate if you drop without a good fix on the contact.

Good hunting.
