2009.016 Release Notes

HCE - 2009.016

==============

- Chg:0000 GE Added the ability to stop the game clock without the pause

dialog and without minimizing the game. The new methods are

the Ctrl-Alt-p hotkey (pause without dialog) and pressing

the - key from 1 sec time compression. The pause is indicated

by 0 sec listed in the time compression box.

This does not mean a player should issue orders while paused

since planes may not be marked as in use, weapons may not be

marked as launched, etc. until the next game second elapses.

- Chg:0000 GE Added additional hotkeys for 1:1 time compression. The existing

hotkey is Return/Enter, the new hotkey is the \ | key. The

new hotkey may need to change to accomodate non-US keyboard

layouts.

- Chg:0000 GE Stopped hogging the entire CPU core worth of processing power

when the game is minimized.

- Chg:0000 GE The Speed/Altitude event processor (internal to the game)

now can apply the event to a single unit if the unit was

fed in as part of the event. This should mean only the

damaged sub in a multi-sub group will surface when damage

is critical.

Regarding the additional "force 1:1" key it would really help if those using non-US keyboard layouts can report back on if this works for them or not. Rene, your input would be appreciated. I suspect we made need to choose a more universal key.

Hogging of CPU power, if you minimize 2009.015 or earlier when the game is running you'll see a CPU usage spike in task manager that lasts as long as the game is minimized, that should disappear with this build.

Speed/Altitude, Brad can explain this if anyone needs clarification. He found that the forced surfacing of critically damaged subs was working but that every unit in the group was surfaced, not just the damaged one. This in theory will remedy that and only surface the damaged sub. I did not verify that this works.

That speed/altitude change could result in crashes so it would be extra handy if you run some games on autoplay to artificially stress test the new code.

Ok first question is the new hotkey an real adition or will it replace the return key as hotkey at some point?

if it will replace return we need to find a better key than \ maybee 0 or something like this. A Key present in most keyboards at the same place...

I´ll test later wich key is now the 1:1 with the german layout.

Addition, not replacement. You'll note that \ isn't set in stone or I wouldn't be asking...

I like the \ key since it is one of the few that is often over-sized on US keyboards.

fine...

so keep it as it is for the US Customers...

we "Europeans" can stay with the return key when we can´t use the \ key...

so everyone should be happy :D

The new hotkey isn´t working at all on my cf29 Notebook

even worse

no more altiude changes for planes and subs possible at the moment they stay at the depth they start with

Thanks Rene, it isn't however the end of the world. fwiw I'm having planes that should be loitering keep going. All of these are unintended side effects of the damaged sub forced surfacing changes in this build.

The speed\altitude stuff should be resolved in 2009.017. The code I wrote in 2009.016 was on the right track but wasn't complete.
