  3. Convoy, medium opposed NATO transit. Pretty straight forward scenario. I got two SAGs, one convoy of merchant ships and limited air assets. To win I just need to get the convoy to Narvik alive. I left all the surface ships on their starting courses and launched 3 F-16s to the north to CAP. Then sent one of my two P-3 Orions to the north roughly 151km off the coast to see what's out there. It didn't take long. My CAP detected incoming aircraft and I sent the fighters to intercept and called up some more to reinforce after changing their loadout from guided to air-to-air because I'm not sure how many Soviet aircraft I'm up against.     Hi All, I'm wondering how I should go about prosecuting contacts detected via ESM. I've seen this happen quite a bit from, say, patrolling ASW aircraft, but can never seem to get a more solid fix. Usually when I send a ship out to close with them, it gets into attack range and my missiles don't find anything. Is this a matter of turning on radar and maneuvering? If I have a bearing to a contact, I assume that's the bearing from the platform which detected them, and not necessarily that of the group as a whole. Often I end up surprised by sudden damage, without a prior contact. I wonder if I'm just getting unlucky. I've noticed this most in "Gauntlet," but it seems t…

    Hi All, So I'm coming off what is for me a fairly successful run, the GIUK Convoy scenario. I have 8 merchant ships still alive, and have managed to sink a couple submarines as well as a surface group. Granted, firing a harpoon at a ship you can see visually is probably not a great idea. I was wondering if it might be any use sending my save game or message log to somebody to review how I'm doing. I'm not sure if it would be practical, I don't know how much state information the save format preserves. I've made observations in the other thread, and I don't have much to add to them just now.     Hi All, I've managed to get my hands on an original Harpoon Classic disc dated 1994. After much toing and froing I've managed to get it to play on my (was just about to throw out) Win XP doorwedge netbook. Possibly a bone question, Can I update this edition with files from harp gamer? It's fully working on my netbook, but I have absolutely no idea about going into the nuts and bolts of programs. Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Ok, this is driving me nuts, LOL I'm producing custom Harpoon scenarios, but the AI seems not to do what I am asking him to do. I have programmed multiple air patrols and air strikes to take place from starting from different AI bases against players units, yet when I play the scenario it seems that only half of the assigned attacks come at me. I looked again if the aircraft had enough range to accomplish the tasks they were given and it all looked fine. Does anyone have an explanation for this? Could it be that by programming too many aircraft launches in the scenario editor, the AI gets some kind of an "overflow" and only launches part of them? Cheers,…

    Can anyone help me with the above user scenario, the game looks very, very good but, as the blue side, I don't survive for more than ten minutes as I am overcome with vampires, even if I launch every available aircraft, I enjoy playing HCE but have limited computer skills, is there anyway of moving my CV group's starting position to at least have a fighting chance

  15. Two questions: 1. In HUCE, I apparently am not using aircraft in an ASW search correctly. For instance, I'll detect a torpedo. From there I'll estimate the box and send out ASW aircraft by using Launch/Patrol. The aircraft whips on out there, goes into Loiter, drops one (1) sonobouy and... Nothing. No other bouys are dropped, no motion, nada. Naturally, this results in no detections -- I have had one aircraft detection -- a MAD detect. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? 2.     Here is how to install the beta versions when Windows thinks you shouldn't. On the first screen click "More Info" On the second screen click "Run Anyway" Windows is doing a smart thing in that it is trying to prevent you from running programs that are unsigned. Signing gives a measure of assurance that the file is really from who it says it is from and in turn that it may actually be what it says it is. Historically it has been expensive and time consuming to get the signing up and running. HC being a hobby has meant spending money and time on something I don't much care about was a low priority, especially in versions of Windows where running unsigned …

    Matrix just released the HUCE 2015.027 patch (yay!). A side-effect is that it is not currently possible to bring HCE up to the current beta version. This may change in the future as more components are updated again. A method of updating HCE (Harpoon Commander's Edition) to the current Beta versions. Note, this is not for HUCE (Harpoon Ultimate Commander's Edition). For HUCE, download and install the 2009.097 patch from Matrix Games, then install any Beta versions on top of that. 1.     I'm interested if people know the 'in reality' situation, can some aero-tankers accept fuel from other tankers and if so which ones? While harpoon doesn't do this, if it occurs in reality then I can add the function to an 'advanced' refuel control (via an exportDLL library) the catch being that I'll need to include data within the dll regarding what can be refuelled. I'm guessing the likes of super hornets in tanker loadout would be able to refuel from larger tankers and thus provide a further top up for an accompanied strike group without the large vulnerable tanker going into contested air space.

    I'm sorry to ask this, since it may have been answered before, but the search option didn't return any results. How does refuelling actually work in HCCE from the logistic point of view? Does it matter if I let one tanker refuel 10 aircraft or if I use 2 tankers for that job? Apparently tanking would happen faster with 2 tankers, but does that influence the range gained by the refuelling aircraft, ie does a higher tanker / refueled aircraft ratio increase the total range of the refueled aircraft?
