October 16, 201510 yr Hi All, I've managed to get my hands on an original Harpoon Classic disc dated 1994. After much toing and froing I've managed to get it to play on my (was just about to throw out) Win XP doorwedge netbook. Possibly a bone question, Can I update this edition with files from harp gamer? It's fully working on my netbook, but I have absolutely no idea about going into the nuts and bolts of programs. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Possibly a bone question, Can I update this edition with files from harp gamer? It's fully working on my netbook, but I have absolutely no idea about going into the nuts and bolts of programs. Can someone point me in the right direction? Unfortunately, no. While you have yourself a piece of Harpoon history (my own copies of the various versions have a special place in the man cave), the current Harpoon Ultimate Commander's Edition (HUCE, sometimes called HCE for short) grew out of the Harpoon Classic 2002 effort. The only option to be fully current (including betas available here at HarpGamer) is to start with the Matrix Games version of HUCE.
October 16, 201510 yr The last iterations of Harpoon HCE/HUCE and PE and SE run fine in my alternative old computer, an Asus 10" with Intel Atom and only 1 Gb RAM, with Windows XP (now using from two months ago Windows 10 in the main computer and everything is also fine) as that limited computer run it well, I think any other also can do ti.
October 16, 201510 yr Author Was afraid you'd say that, oh well I'm enjoying the original. I have tried to download the demo version of HCE from here but when I run it it says it's experienced a problem and has to shut down. Any tips and tricks?
October 16, 201510 yr Was afraid you'd say that, oh well I'm enjoying the original. No reason why not. This sim is timeless. I have tried to download the demo version of HCE from here but when I run it it says it's experienced a problem and has to shut down. Any tips and tricks? Calling the resident computer expert ... Tony?
October 16, 201510 yr I have tried to download the demo version of HCE from here but when I run it it says it's experienced a problem and has to shut down. Any tips and tricks? Please provide some more detail: Did you make it through the installer? How far into the game do you make it? At what screen does it die? There is probably a file called GE.log in the game's directory, can you paste it into this thread? The demo should work on any XP machine.
October 16, 201510 yr Author Hi Tony, thanks for your help I'm able to install it ok, when I run it it gets as far as the initial start-up screen then it says that the program has experienced a problem and must shut down... Give me two ticks and I'll install it again and see if I can grab the GE.log

October 18, 201510 yr Unfortunately none of that is showing helpful information in this case. I'll try to get a new demo build up tonight in hopes that magically cures whatever is ailing you.
October 18, 201510 yr Author Thanks for your efforts Tony, IT WORKED! Not sure what came over me, but spurred on by success I just bought the matrix games version of HUCE. THAT WORKS FANTASTICALLY TOO! I'm one happy newb pooner! Thanks for everyone's help
