  1. Such wonderful names from the mother country
  2. Go for it Albert and Yishten! Thanks for asking kmart494, I was behind-the-scenes seeing if someone wanted to team with me but I didn't get a response.
  3. So we're starting to see hints about the location of the actual intercepts (12 miles, 9 miles, 8 miles) from the ship. Also an interesting 90 seconds to make a decision set of hints. This certainly suggests AEGIS wasn't on full auto, not that I can imagine full auto being an option in the rather confined area. Has more information emerged, such as how many SAMs were fired per incoming, which SAMs (practically at ESSM range there, wouldn't have to be SM-2)?
  4. How many platforms per side?
  5. The article makes a cogent argument. It doesn't propose how to counter the Chinese moves, leaving it up to the armchair admirals .
  6. At first blush I would say your ability to sink the enemy is reasonable. That is a lot of torps they fired at you though, my opinion is that the enemies wouldn't have many good enough fixes to put as much ordnance in the water as they did. Overall, reasonable tally of sunk tonnage with some questionable Soviet tactics.
  7. Okay, I gave it a try. From HCE 2009.050 I skipped 2015.027 from Matrix and went straight to 2016.010 from here at HarpGamer. Finally I installed 2016.003 to get back to a stable GE (Game Engine). Now to run the 32-bit SE, use Windows Explorer to go to your HCE directory (look in C:\Matrix Games\...). Double-click Wscenedt32 and you should be good to go. With this arrangement you won't have the newest PE (Platform Editor) and some other tidbits but I think the GE and SE will work fine. Holler back if you need more help after this.
  8. On this one you are caught by a technicality. There is a statement on the newest files here, "Start with your 2015.027 patched HUCE from Matrix." http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/topic/2049-current-files In short, that means HCE can no longer officially be patched up to current. There is a tiny chance that tonight I'll try unofficially patching HCE to a place where it can use the 32-bit SE. If you don't see a reply back tomorrow, knock on my door again please.

Crossing target, I've seen that code and result somewhere before.

HCE - 2016.010 - 2016-09-14 =========================== - Chg:I160 GE Player was unable to click an enemy installation, do Intercept and successfully get planes to attack planes in the enemy installation's formation. Added back the choice of attack type to get around this for now. A better long-term solution is to only show valid attack types for the aircraft involved and auto-select if there is only one valid attack type. http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/tracker/issue-160-incapable-to-intercept-enemy-aircrafts-in-autopatrol/ (thanks Enrique) - Chg:0000 GE For a while now, when you go into the Unit\Full\Weapons display for an aircraft unit, the current loadout wasn't highlighted so it felt like you couldn't see the quantity of weapons available in the current loadout. Fixed to show the current loadout when possible so that the player has instant feedback on loadout and weapons available. This bug was introduced with 4096 items per annex. (thanks eeustice)
  11. Went ahead and posted it just now, http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/topic/2049-current-files/

HCE - 2016.009 - 2016-09-03 =========================== - Chg:0000 SE In pre-commondb BattleSets, re-establish checks for WepID == 0 in loadouts and multimounts to prevent crashes when the SE tries to save scenarios. There can only be 4 weapons per loadout and multimount in the legacy battlesets so for slots 4-8 we need to and again do set it to INVALID_ID instead of 0. This bug was a regression introduced with 4096 items per annex. (thanks rabbit, Hellion144)
  13. Fix coded and minimally tested, should get it posted to the beta forum here tomorrow. HCE - 2016.009 - 2016-09-03 =========================== - Chg:0000 SE In pre-commondb BattleSets, re-establish checks for WepID == 0 in loadouts and multimounts to prevent crashes when the SE tries to save scenarios. There can only be 4 weapons per loadout and multimount in the legacy battlesets so for slots 4-8 we need to and again do set it to INVALID_ID instead of 0. 14. This is a bug that I am now able to reproduce since you gave an appropriate level of detail. It isn't fixed just yet but probably will be this weekend. It was introduced when we doubled the database capacity to 4096 items per annex.
  15. Same question as on Facebook, what version of the SE are you using? It should show in the title bar, year.build, ex. 2016.008. Next question is what battleset, database and db version? If you want to start troubleshooting, if you edit an original GIUK scenario, does that save okay? That is to get the difference between a commondb battleset (EC2003 and newer) and legacy battlesets.
  16. Battle for the Yellow Sea is a Harpoon 3 (ANW) scenario, not a HC (Harpoon Classic) scenario, probably why you can't find it .
  17. As Brad said, HUCE comes with the full WestPac BattleSet. I've attached a screenshot of the relevant portion of the BattleSet listing and one of the Westpac scenario list. The HUCE GE (Game Engine) version is at the top of the window, in the first screenshot you'll see 2016.008. That number is what Brad is asking about.

I'll be reading the excerpt tonight, looks engaging from a skim! I think you'll find much of the HC crowd has an interest in the age of steel. Mine starts in the interwar (WWI -> WWII) period and flourishes in WWII thru the Montanas and original Z-plan ships. Much frustration has been had by HC players in this regard as you well know. These days in HC you can put an installation anywhere. One day long ago I flew B-2s from Whiteman to Iraq (tanking was a real challenge), an extreme example but an example nonetheless. That particular scenario would be much easier today now that we can offload fuel multiple times per tanker sortie. Guns are also much improved. They are still far short of optimal for WWII, but better than they were. Sensors are the biggest limiting factor imho but with the right interest it isn't an impossible nut to crack.

The original fix for this was going to be to replace the affected dialogs in both GE and SE with modern equivalents. That hasn't happened so here is a solution for now. HCE - 2016.008 - 2016-08-24 =========================== - Chg:I146 SE Port aircraft loadout dialogs from the GE to the SE so that all information visible in GE for loadouts is available in the SE. (thanks eeustice, Smitty, et al) http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/tracker/issue-146-se-formation-ready-air-windows/
  20. http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/tracker/issue-146-se-formation-ready-air-windows/?gopid=788&do=findComment&comment=788 Fixed, at least for aircraft loadouts. Will be posting build in a few minutes.
  21. Started digging into this yesterday. It isn't a terribly large technical challenge since the screen(s) exist in the GE. Mainly a copy + paste exercise moving them from separate GE and SE implementations to share the same code between them. That said, time is scarce right now so don't hold up your games on my account
  22. Yes, on the properties of the shortcut, on the compatibility tab, set it to run as administrator. The game itself doesn't require that but the license checker from Matrix Games (publisher) does. Yes, navigate to the game directory (default c:\Matrix Games\HUCE) then to the subdirectory called ExportDLLs. Rename DigMilArt.dll to DigMilArt.dll.bak (or delete it). In general saved games from HUCE won't work in HCCE but they may work in the other direction HCCE -> HUCE. If you read the ReleaseNotes.txt you'll notice a number of callouts of the saved game version changing which means the structure of the saved game changed. In most cases I write conversions but they are almost always lossy meaning it is better to start the scenario anew. By lossy I mean if you started a game in 2015.023 the saved game would have the orders embedded for later viewing but if you started a game in 2015.022 then opened the save in 2015.023, the orders wouldn't be there since builds before 2015.023 didn't include the orders. Hmm, didn't fix it yet but didn't think there was data being lost, just lack of alignment between header and data rows. If I'm mistaken, let me know and I'll bump it up in priority. Thanks Smitty, agreed on the stability.
  23. Haha, I was looking for more of a yay Harpoon response but I'll blush and carry on. Brad, I remember the days before Bret let me loose on the code as pretty remarkable, hardly dark days! There was a whole lot of collaboration and taskmasters keeping ya'll focused on the prize.
