  1. Can you point out the specific issue that this matches? Spent time yesterday looking at recent issue reports (unrelated to this) and failed to replicate them with the provided files so could use a winner
  2. Download a newer beta http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/topic/2049-current-files/
  3. Welcome Red, sorry for the slow response! H3 naming is up to you. I try to go by versions, 3.6.3, 3.9.x, 3.11.x, ... Also correct on the lineage of the game. Harpoon (Classic) was first written before Harpoon 2/3 but Harpoon (Classic) via the Commander's Edition is still being modified while Harpoon 3/ANW is not. You might get a better idea of some differences and changes at http://www.wiki.computerharpoon.com. It is out of date and encumbered by spam but does the job. We don't see much H3 traffic here anymore so almost all of the computer Harpoon discussion is HC (Harpoon Classic) oriented. You can scour YouTube for a prolific video maker who explains the game differences well. He also happens to be banned here which is a shame but was a necessity to maintain the last vestiges of a community.

HCE - 2016.011 - 2016-12-29 =========================== - Chg:I174 GE When we moved from 128 possible units per group to 256, we should have moved to 255 instead since 256 is a reserved id to indicate that the harpoon event is to be applied to the entire group, not a specific unit. The fix put in place is to max out new groups at 255 units AND strip the 256th unit off of any groups that have them. The GE and SE will put it in the GE.log/SE.log but not otherwise alert the player. (thanks eeustice) http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/tracker/issue-174-unable-to-shoot-down-255th-plane-in-patrol/ - Chg:0000 GE MovePlanesToNewGroup in Effect1.c could move a maximum of 128 planes. Increased it to 255. - Chg:0000 GE Imagine a situation where there are 255 x F-15C Intercept at a base and 1 more lands. Previously they would have been combined into a single 256 plane bundle. That has now been limited to 255 to be consistent. - Chg:0000 GE Added function int CountGroupUnits to count the number of units currently in a group and plugged it in to a bunch of places where the logic was replicated. - Chg:0000 GE Adding code to prevent situations where there might be more than 255 units in a resultant group (joining groups, etc.). It is doubtful that all spots have been found. - Chg:0000 GE Added "unit" log type which for now will track # of units per group. UNIT_LOG constant in the code, unit on the command line. - Chg:0000 SE Added "unit" log type which for now will track # of units per group. - Chg:0000 SE Deleted a couple of unused source files as they functions they contained have been simplified to work in both GE and SE. - Chg:0000 DU dbmake.exe removed debugging message about magazines.
  6. First Strike was successful. Now kmart494 is running Divide and Conquer http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/forum/76-divide-and-conquer/. It is larger but still small.
  7. Late 80s is Harpoon 3, 90s is Harpoon 4. Harpoon 3 materials tend to be best acquired used in print form. Harpoon 4 varies. The base game or box set is H4.1 and you are probably best off grabbing that used as well. Supplements since then are available on WarGame vault http://www.wargamevault.com/browse/pub/7981/Admiralty-Trilogy-Group. The Naval SITREP "magazines" have rule and annex updates in them. Oh, High Tide is slightly newer than H4.1; no huge rules difference though.

When what to my wondering eyes did appear but "Zones of Control" and a pristine "Battles of the Third World War" . I was a bit bummed that my name and Brad's didn't make the cut for Zones of Control. We were in an early draft but the editing gods are fierce and there was not room for your lowly caretakers when the pagecount was brought under control. Uncle Harpoon had let me know that we didn't make the cut but I had conveniently forgotten. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/32084/battles-third-world-war https://mitpress.mit.edu/zones-control

Merry Christmas all, expect some HC builds 1st quarter 2017. I'll mainly be attempting to get the gradual turns and altitude changes in line but maybe a few other fun things will come to fruition along the way!
  10. http://edition.cnn.com/2016/12/16/politics/chinese-warship-underwater-drone-stolen/index.html All civilian crew? http://gcaptain.com/usns-bowditch-little-known-critical/ Seems less inflammatory than collecting towed arrays. What do you all think?
  11. Thanks, it takes me quite a while to track down each one but we appreciate your reporting ones you find broken!

http://admiraltytrilogy.com/llbond.html "Everyone at ATG is saddened by the death of one of its designers, John Gresham, who passed away on July 2nd after a long illness. He was 58. John was co-author of Supermarina, Volumes I and II with Mike Markowitz. Over the more than twenty years he worked with ATG, he contributed six articles to the Naval SITREP, and provided assistance to the authors of many more. He was generous with his time, sharing information and research materials with colleagues. His most recent piece was an update on the Littoral Combat Ship program, which appeared in issue 49 (Oct 2015)." John was an active Harpooner and contributed to the work we've done here and obviously with many other communities. He will be missed.
  14. I only researched the first issue I ran into. The problem I found was in the ship annex, AnnexId=2 where there was an invalid mount id of 57361 per attached. Deleted that entry from the ship, exported and I had an error on the next ship with an invalid mount entry. Looking in the annex_a1.csv file there are a bunch of mounts listed on ships that don't exist in the Mount annex (Z1). Unsure about magazines as I didn't take the time to clean up all of the orphaned mount records. Later updates: 1. Importing the newer HCDB2 results in the "missing" mounts re-appearing. Will continue to dig toward the root cause.
  15. The JBDs are great, Peace out dude . Nonetheless pretty neat, thanks for sharing!
  16. Iranian Setup: Sahand approaches the convoy from the southeast, at 35 knots. Me thinks you got east and west confused. Doh!
  17. My role was encouraging Blue (Eric) to participate and providing guidance both bidden and unbidden. The discussion started with tactics while we each fired up the SimPlot viewer. The scenario appeared to be 1 warship on each side. For our discussion we assumed no helo available. Taking a run through the scenario with a helo would have been interesting. Eric didn't have data sheets for his warship. kmart494 had provided one for the merchant earlier. So I dug into HC and quickly found that the enemy outgunned Eric both from a gun and missile standpoint. Eric's torps weren't even surface capable. On top of it all, the enemy was faster. My suggested strategy focused on staying quiet in hopes of denying he enemy an easy ESM fix to chase down. Past that it was going to come down to luck. We set up range rings in the SimPlot viewer (very handy). On my end at least a fictional opponent was placed to the SW to get a feel for the dynamics of the upcoming engagement. As expected, the enemy was fearlessly radiating, Eric quickly got an ESM hit to the SE. This didn't match the scenario description so I urged caution. Eric threw caution to the wind and almost immediately barreled his warship toward the ESM contact, expecting it to be the enemy. I expect he was right (but you know, I haven't checked the later turn files to double-check). It was death by a hundred cuts from there with a small hope that the enemy would run out of gun ammo plinking away at Eric's warship. If I had commanded Eric's forces, the result would have been much the same with the exception that I would have been more indecisive. For kmart494's part, he was a fantastic GM/umpire. He didn't get stuck on small details, if he had, the experience would have been miserable for Eric since Eric has neither the paper rules nor the annexes. kmart494 took Eric's commander's intent and applied it reasonably to the situation at hand. I look forward to reading Yishten's account and digging through the turn files. Hopefully I'll post more at a later time and call out SimPlot more specifically.
  18. Will you be using a different database name since you are clearly breaking backward compatibility? Such as "HCDB II" .
  19. I'm thinking about rolling back at least the gradual altitude changes. It really deserves its own state machine and interactions with the other models in the game. I fear sinking all of my HC time into it which wouldn't be much fun nor get you all much else? Thoughts?

In case you missed it so far, small unit PBEM in progress... http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/forum/68-first-strike/
  21. Hmm, haven't tried Imgur, at the very least you should be able to paste the link.
  22. Thank you Veterans, for serving!
  23. Since 2008.065 you can look for yourself. I've attached a screenshot of each (O) vs (Alt F5) ============== - Chg:0000 GE Added hotkey O to show any On Station rectangles for the player's side. Press O to show them, O again to hide them. In debug builds, Alt-F5 will show on station rectangles once for all sides (the ones for Blue will be blue color, Red will be red, etc.)
  24. You join it to the destination group/port. That being said, there is no victory condition trigger or anything for doing that. Traditionally when orders talk about docking it is really on On Station victory condition so you need to be within a defined rectangle of area around the group/port.
