New to the Harpoon saga but not so to ASW. Former Seawolves.org member back in the 688i H/K, Fleet Command day´s (alias deep2112). Always wanted to get into Harpoon and just recently bought HUE from Matrix Games and so here Iam

 

First off I would like to thank you all for keeping this sim alive, my hat off to you all for your effort and great work! Second but not least, may you all enjoy these holiday´s and the new year with more and better Harpoon!

 

So for my questions...

 

On install of HUE the only version that created it´s own file path is HUCE in the Matrix Games directory, the rest of the 3 version had no default file path or file (except when unzipping .exe ´s to HUE). So basicaly I had to create a file for each version in the Matrix Games directory before install. Although it dosent seem to matter, at least from a beginner´s view as games seem to work fine, how should I name the install files?

 

Apart from the HUCE file which was created by default I have named the other 3 files as shown below...

 

 

Also and if it´s not to much to ask, what are the mayor differences´between Harpoon 3 ANW v3.9 and Harpoon 3 ANW? I can see the difference in HUCE and Harpoon 3 v3.6 being the latter the last classic version but don´t see so with ANW and ANW v3.9. Sorry if this has been explained somewhere here, but I just can´t find a clear (simple) explanation around here so far. Iam sure it has to do with engine and updates thus the two versions but would rather get it from some of you who have used Harpoon alot more.

Welcome Red, sorry for the slow response!

 

H3 naming is up to you. I try to go by versions, 3.6.3, 3.9.x, 3.11.x, ...

 

Also correct on the lineage of the game. Harpoon (Classic) was first written before Harpoon 2/3 but Harpoon (Classic) via the Commander's Edition is still being modified while Harpoon 3/ANW is not.

 

You might get a better idea of some differences and changes at http://www.wiki.computerharpoon.com. It is out of date and encumbered by spam but does the job.

 

We don't see much H3 traffic here anymore so almost all of the computer Harpoon discussion is HC (Harpoon Classic) oriented. You can scour YouTube for a prolific video maker who explains the game differences well. He also happens to be banned here which is a shame but was a necessity to maintain the last vestiges of a community.
