  1. Researching about old Soviet stuff, I've finded this extraordinary web site about the 16VA in East Germany. It's narrated about the personal viewpoint of a ex-Belgium Army soldier, detached in a Hawk SAM battery. The webmaster has do a lot of personal research, but I see he has not many connections with other people with the some interest, and also the site is something chaotic (some internal links are not working or nonexistent, and the size of the pages don't adjust very well the screen), but full of very interesting data and links, researches and personal opinions, as to evaluate the feasability of the Soviets destroying the Hawk SAM sites with tactical nukes launched from planes of the second wave, after decoying the defences with planes with conventional bombs in the first wave http://www.16va.be/ http://www.16va.be/3.la_16VA_eng.html
  2. Another note more about warplanes in the 50to65 DB: - The RO radars (ranging radars, mainly for shot guns, but also for bombing) are not depicted in the DB, because his actual utility in the game is none, and it can be unrealistic and easy detected by ESM. Nevertheless the value of the RO presence in an aircraft is reflected in his combat values (air-to-air and air-to-ground). And remember, a search radar also has ranging radar modes and functions, an aircraft with a (modern) search radar also has the ranging radar effects reflected in his combat values.
  3. ...and yeh the Prince of Wales does seem a little hoodoo, but for what reason? Now I understand my yesterday late-night thinking. Prince of Wales is hoodoo name for a aircraft carrier because the latest bearer of the name by sunked exclusively by aircraft I think any name as Invincible (we can forget Jutland, the name was redeemed in the Falklands campaing (perhaps twice, in 1914 and 1982 ) ), Ark Royal, Illustrious, Hermes (the first ship in any navy to be designed and built as an aircraft carrier) or Eagle are by far better names for a UK aircraft carrier (yes, some Ark Royal, Hermes and Eagle bearers had a sad end, but the names were also redeemed later with the good post-war services of other bearers). Also, now I've constated in Conway's the name proposed for the 1966 cancelled CVA-01 project were also royal names, Queen Elizabeth and Duke of Edimburgh, not a good thing either ...
  4. I would change the future name Prince of Wales for Ark Royal. Prince of Wales sound some like hoodoo for me
  5. Some months (errr, years) working in the South Atlantic 1982 War, perhaps this week-end ....
  6. Interesting and apparently serious paper. It's not Dr. Kopp work, but he's named as source (and some strange Russian sources in Spanish!). I think this paper worth a second look tomorrow.
  7. In the today news, a scenario clearly described, and not for a Pooner ! http://www.rnw.nl/english/article/netherla...d-dutch-weapons
  8. Thanks for the tip ! same my Asus Netbook
  9. Very interesting pages about MiG-23, Angola, and the Cuban Air Force (the same thing, Cuban MiG-23ML from 1984). In Spanish (From a Russian server ): http://urrib2000.narod.ru/EqMiG23a.html#llegada In English (But I see not all the pages are in English ): http://urrib2000.narod.ru/EqMiG23-e.html
  10. Sad, very sad. F-111 was one of my favorite planes, and one of the more impressive of all the aviation periods. At least in Spain we preserve some Harriers in our two little CVH/LHD ...
  11. The Ar.196A-3 in the WWII DB has: 20mm MG151/20 air burst PK=.33 ammo=5 / =0.33x5=1,65 PK 7.92mm MG air burst PK=.25 ammo=10 / 0.25x10=2,5 PK Conclusion, in each sortie an Ar.196A-3 can kill 1,65+2,5 = 4,5 planes, the Ar.196A-3 pilot can be an ace almost in each sortie !!! More when we reckon about the probability of a kill with the single aft 7.92mm is almost a 33% more than with the two frontal 20mm guns !!! And remember because limitations in the game engine, all the guns are firing in the frontal arc. (Incidentally the Ar.196A-3 has 2x20mm MG FF guns with 60 rpg, no the more effective 2x20mm MG151/20)
  12. Thinking a lot about it. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/a...11289847836003A And don't forget about the low reability of the Charles de Gaulle engines ... And don't forget the husband of the Argentina President was dead in October. His widow is in a very difficult political situation (News reports and some personal contacts), as is Argentina ...
  13. I've never mind in no neutral whales It's a very good idea: Blue side (our side) whales, as moving decoys or as diversion manoeuvre. Red side (the opposition side) whales, also as moving decoys and as diversion manoeuvre, and forcing the player to ammo expenditure in unidentified/unsure contacts. Before I've included whales in some scenarios only as neutral decoys ... I need more parallel thinking
  14. Thanks Evidently the arithmetics is not my strong point, I understood clearly 7 stored and 6 in the tubes 7+6=14
  15. Very, very good news. I observe the nuclear air-to-air Genies shooting-down only a plane of a group, but I don't say nothing because I was thinking I was a secondary issue ...
  16. Very clear docu !!! Somebody can confirm the last words, maximum overall load of torpedoes is 14 ?
  17. Hi Please try the HC-65to80_20101122 or 1123, there was something terribly wrong with the builds 1110 to 1121.... Ok, with the 1123 everything works Ok, thanks
  18. Thanks, working now, but ... With the DB 65to80 DB_101121 (recomended by the scenario builder): Maddox present, but is a Fletcher The Carrier Air Wing composition sembles correct, but the Task Force is composed by ... Malmo (As USS Ticonderoga CV-14 !) Joao Coutinho Capitani Romani Osa I Gearing FRAM II Trying it with the DB 50to65 DB_101119 Maddox present, but some nasty planes in the CV (I fear a great ID number error in the aircraft DB ): Mirage III CJ Alice Su-7 ! More later, I must get out to work !
  19. I know it's a newbie question, but ... as integrate I the Indochine Battleset in the HCE folder without deleting the hdsu file ???
  20. Clear photos of the almost new Italian CVH Cavour in Marseille (and two years after his commisioning, without the two intended 76mm Super Rapid guns fitted, but I see something like radar gun director for those weapons): http://www.meretmarine.com/article.cfm?id=114588
  21. Don't worry, the Queen Elizabeth (CVF), entry #2828, is from some time ago in the standard DB and in the Americas DB, at least
  22. You can start with the Flight International's Air Forces Directory (Also included other Navies, Armies and other services aircrafts), download at: http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2010/...ember-2009.html Also, Wikipedia (with some errors and some scarce details sometimes) is a good generic source for Air Forces and World Navies, and sometimes with links worth of mention, as in the example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_People's_Air_Force http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_People's_Navy That link redirects to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_activ...th_Korean_ships And for more details and historical insight, don't forget to look at the Harpgamer links: http://www.harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?autocom=links
  23. I think the chinese response can be very interesting ...

  25. Yes, the key is "if France agreed". Scenario: Argentina re-captures the Falklands/Malvinas, and offer to France surreptitiously a good contract or privileges in the oil field entouring the islands (And I suposse UK has not oferted to France privileges about those oil fields).
