  1. Looking for data for the warplanes of the 50to65 DB, I've finded these two pages: A very impressive site about the Blackburn Buccaneer: http://www.blackburn-buccaneer.co.uk/0_Contents.html And in a site for years knowned to me, only today casually I've finded on it a very detailed composition of post-war UK carriers Air Wings: http://www.btinternet.com/~a.c.walton/navy/rn-cv3.html
  2. Dreaming about to get some spare time these days and play the scenario ...
  3. At last at home today, with a little more of time. Now I remember two other good bad examples about the surface submarine concept: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_X1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_M1
  4. A new? design os submarine, optimized for fast surface moving to crisis areas (in French): http://www.meretmarine.com/article.cfm?id=114389 In past times it not was a idea with good outcomes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_K_class_submarine Neither in France: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_submar...Surcouf_(N_N_3) At least now in HCE we can fire at surfaced submmarines
  5. Thanks for the odd Spanish DDs. Also for the P-1000 Vulkan SSM, I've finded it some time ago referencied at http://www.testpilot.ru/russia/chelomei/p/1000/index.htm
  6. And no future Nimrod neither Harriers from 2011. Mmm, I'm thinking in a couple of possible scenarios ...
  7. That was unthinkable for me, and the paper literally says , but I think in a lot of future similar scenarios, from Somalia to Iran.
  8. I think it's a matter more dependent of the type, generation, origin or complexity of the plane, than of the loadout. As examples, the low disponibiliy of russian/soviet types, the B-2 Spirit, ever dependant of the integrity of his radar absorbent skin, or the B-52, with more disponibility in 1991 than in peacetime. One idea can be disponibility based in number of engines, an half hour of maintenance for each engine in the plane, but the current planes requiered a lot less maintenance than older types.
  9. Played yesterday, but very tired after a hard work day. Defeat after 24 planes shoot-down. I will be a lot more cautious with the planes, as usual on me, the next time Between my little gains, a FFG Perry, a Supertanker and 8xA-6E Intruder shoot-down.
  10. Not directly relationated or not hard data, but the articles about "Speed Thrill" and "Speed" in http://www.navweaps.com/index_tech/index_tech.htm are worth of mention, and I think you can get some hints on it, specially in relation to nuclear propulsion.
  11. Good and explanatory piece of text, thanks
  12. I think it must be a world record, the Tejas program was initiated in 1969 .... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAL_Tejas
  13. The fourth SSBN of his class commissioned 20 September 2010, and the first with the new M51 SLBM, to be retrofitted in the previous boats (incidentally, in the DB is only modelled the ill-fated M-5 SLBM, it's not modelled the interim M45 neither the new M51, but it's not a problem with this type of weapon ): http://www.meretmarine.com/article.cfm?id=114120 http://www.meretmarine.com/article.cfm?id=114121 About Le Terrible (in French): http://www.netmarine.net/bat/smarins/terribl2/index.htm
  14. Juan Carlos I commissioned last week. Principe de Asturias (in service from 1988) will be mothballed because presupuestary issues when Juan Carlos I is in full commission (in French): http://www.meretmarine.com/article.cfm?id=114117 Defence Ministry press release, saying the composition of the air wing will be 10-12 fighters and a similar number of helicopters. A lot of pictures of the King, and almost none of the ship, as usual in Spain (in Spanish): http://www.mde.es/gabinete/notasPrensa/201...uancarlios.html
  15. Yes, I see clearly the 76mm in the deck of USCGC Escabana and I suppose was a question of ROE, but it's ineluctable the reference to LCS (Cdr. Salamander talks about more guns, and Famous class cutters, 1800 tons displacement=76mm gun, LCS, near 3000 tons displacement, and it's a front-line warship near 3000 tons displacement=57mm gun).
  16. Yes, very disturbing situation ... and without Nimrod coverage of the sea aproachs
  17. More guns needed ? Oh, yes, the USCG can purchase some LCS with the powerful 57mm gun ...
  18. That reminds me about ten years ago, with the basque priests refusing to celebrate funeral mass for the ETA terrorism victims, for keep social peace ...
  19. An half of century , and for some of us Big E will be ever a modern ship, and only a year older than me .... Nuclear powered, enormous ship, eight reactors, 40 knots supposed fancy speed , initial billboard radars with electronic scanning (in 1961 a pioneer system, and a real failure. She is really a fifties ship, laid down in 1958 ), NBC protection, the 1969 Vietnam flight deck accident , a lot of fascinating memories about Big E,
  20. I've not read it, finded some minutes ago browsing on Internet about relationated matters, but I think it's worth of mention. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dead_Hand...angerous_Legacy
  21. After the Summer, I continue researching about 1950s fighting planes. Today I've finded a curious information about the forward deployment of 4xCF-100 Canuck of the Belgian Air Force, with the support of 2xC-119 Flying Boxcar, to the Belgian Congo, after the Leopoldville Riots and a year before his independence and the subsequent Katanga Secession War. It was named Operation Simba. As force deployment was small (and the CF-100 was a all-weather interceptor, similar to the F-89 Scorpion, without specific air-to-ground weapons), but was impressive because his long range and the small size and facilities of the Belgian Air Force (We can remember also other daring operations of the Belgian Para-Commandos in Africa, in sucessive crisis). Some evocative links: Operation Simba (in French): http://beauvechain.free.fr/simba/SIMBA.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congo_Crisis A related mysterious aviation file, the death of the UN General Secretary Dag Hammarskjold on a DC-6B: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dag_Hammarskj%C3%B6ld#Death (He is the only person to have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize posthumously, err ... or it not was Barak Hussein Obama? ). Other times, other planes, other wars ... September 11. Now in my TV playing Flight 93 ...
  22. No new things in this article, but I think it's worth of mention: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405...3460547864.html
  23. It's a very big scenario. It's one of the more complex scenario I've ever designed. I've not time to play it before, but I think everything is ok. In the scenario are some strategic surprises, and the victory targets and behaviour of the opposite sides may be very changing, as in the real world.
  24. My own interpretation of the proposed scenario today posted at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...mp;showfile=571 Enjoy
