I put the Zumwalt through a few tests to check her sea legs using HCDB-080326 which generated a few observations: o Why a max cruise speed of 18 kts instead of 19 kts? Is this associated with her drive-type? o Why are the 155mm/62 AGS LRLAP rounds modeled as missiles? o Why does the 57mm/70 Mk110 ppq mount have 16 bursts but the 57mm/70 M110 ssq mount have 255 bursts? o The game allows me to use gunfire against a target for which I had a bearing-only, area detection (using sonar). I did not hit while the detection box was big but did when it became near-exact. o She's very stealthy. Thanks, Brad! DN

  2. Hey guys Ive got a few questions about the HCCE db structure Bundy said you might be able to help me with. 1. The commondb.res and commondb.rsr: Are these the database files that are used for any game, and that I can edit with the pfbuild2002.mdb? 2. How do I create Battlesets? For example suppose I want to allow Alfa boats in the GIUK battleset, can I edit something? or make my own battleset? Where is the data defining what units can appear in which battlesets? I couldnt find it in the commondb. Thanks for any help you can give.

I have a question regarding to 'upgrade of the graphics database EC2003 in my copy of HCE. I'm inserting images that are "missing" in the directory "HCE \ commondb \ rsr" with the PIC on their ID in the database "pfData2005.mdb" with the procedures " PIC ID = (resxxxx.bmp -154) " , once finished (and exported database) to save the job done for a subsequent installation is sufficient save only the directory "HCE \ commondb \ rsr" and the database file "pfData2005.mdb" ? or are needed also commondb.res and commondb.rsr from the game root directory HCE. Thank you and I apologize for my bad English.

Cruising through the HCDB-080712 recently, I noticed that the American Mk48 Mod7 torpedo is limited to a max depth of Shallow(!) This seems a little odd, since the Mod6 could go all the way down to VDeep, but I suppose it is vaguely plausible if the torp was meant to be used in the littorals. However, if this is accurate, then I really, really think that the Virginia class SSNs ought to have at least a few torps aboard capable of handling a blue-water ASW engagement ...

AFAIK, at this time, loadouts designed for HC are issued from H4 forms or designed by DB... designer. AFAIK again, there aren't fixed rules about designing, at least, about range and DATA determination. If AFAIDK, there are rulles, the following wouldn't be usefull at all, but, please, let me thrust that the time i took to design it isn't wasted for nothing. What i suggest it to determine fixed multipliers that will influence DATA and range based on real life values and H4 rules. So i took the "Performance effects for Turbofans and Turbojets at cruise" issued in the rules book and adapted it. Here is what it gives: % of Max Payload Carried | Range/DATA…

  7. Regrettably a Microsoft update has broken scripting functionality that the PE uses to import and export databases. DoCmd.TransferText acImportDelim/acExportDelim Is the command in question when using named Import and Export specifiers. This is not unique to the PE but it is a rarely used feature of Microsoft Access. It is unclear if or when Microsoft will remedy the issue via an update. There are alternatives but I won't be able to crank one out all that quickly as this functionality was an efficient way to remap field names for the .csv files you find in the commondb\res\ folder. To work around the problem, that mapping all has to be recreated in so…

  8. That's the new, the standard HCDB 1980-2015 platform database has been downloaded 10.000 times!!!

  9. Started by TonyE,

We found out with the last couple of HCDB potential releases that the country names were not being imported correctly by the PE (Platform Editor). There is no problem exporting from the PE, just importing. The import does not error out but rather imports incorrect information for the higher numbered country names (has to do with a 1024 character limit so saying exactly where the problem shows up is difficult as it varies with each DB). For those of you MS Access fans, the import specification called bsStringsImport has a column set to a fixed length of 1024 characters. By modifying the import specification to 4096 characters it becomes more than wide enough to h…

Will changing the Type of a ship in the database (in this class INTL Sonya MCM was listed as FF in the database) have an effect on scenarios using that ship other than correctly identifying the type of ship? My concern is that scenarios that use the ship would change, perhaps not correctly including that ship or some other problem (instead of just correctly identifying it). As mentioned earlier, I am new to this, but I am working on adding all of the navies of the Americas as well as updating other fleets (names and omitted classes), at least to Jane's 2004-2005 standard (latest I have).

  13. Started by Warhorse64,

I was looking over the loadouts for the F-22A Raptor in the default db, and noticed a few problems. First, the Intercept loadout is listed as 4 * AIM-120C5, 2 * AIM-120D, and 1 * AIM-9X. Should there not be TWO AIM-9X? Second, the GP loadout lists, among other things, 2 * GBU-31 (BLU-109) JDAM. GBU-31 is a 2000-lb bomb, whereas AFAIK, the F-22 is only capable of loading the smaller 1000-lb GBU-32. Finally, the GP-2 loadout lists the GBU-39/B SDB as having a damage rating of 40. The Small Diameter Bomb is a 250-lb class weapon which packs approximately 50 lbs of HE, which should give a damage rating of 4 or 5. One source for the F-22 is here: http://www.globalsecurity.…

I would be sure of that, except other platforms show up just fine.

  15. Started by JMS,

I had one of this insane ideas the other day, the problem with simulating amphibious warfare is that the only way to do it now is to have the landing ships x time on station, but would it be possible to create standard weapon loadouts simulating the troops and something similar for the defences, like assault helicopters have now? So you will have platoon, company, battalion weapon loadouts with LAND attack capability and something similar (which already exists in terms of brigades and divsions) for defenders - probably the battalion would be superfluous and could be replaced by x Cos - there's something similar on subs and the LCS in the form of SF teams - but this w…

Some days ago I saw Brad has reduced in the last iteration of the DB in one unit the sound value of the submarines in the DB. I think is an usual change, I perceived it because in the previous iteration I was thinking about the sound value of the submarines and noting they are adjusted to the real values. This thinking was based mainly in the data published on the famous table of Submarines of the Russian and Soviet Navies:1718-1990, of Polmar and Noot, Naval Institute Press, Annapolis,1991. Today, reckoning about it but not searching data about the topic, I've finded casually this page base on the mentioned table and parallel data of other books: http://web.archive.or…

OK, I'm using the newly provided blank DB to make my own fictional database. What I want to know is this...since I plan to use many of the weapons and mounts in the current official DB, is there any possible way to copy those two annexes from the official DB into my fictional DB? (Trust me, I just went through the Installations DB and it was over 1000 bases, not including the double entries (IE red/blue) and SAM locations/Ground unit instances...ughh!) I've been reading the help files, but they may as well be written in a foreign language, as I can make no sense of them what so ever. If it is even possible, I'd need to know what to transfer and how to go abou…

  18. Ok. If I understand this correctly - essentially the commondb.res is the database for weapons/sensors/platforms (ships/subs/airplanes) and bases. AS I recall somewhere there is an application that will convert the file (commondb.res) into either Microsoft Excel or Access Database format - a little easier for viewing and analysis. What is the application that I am thinking about? Should it already be on my computer with Install of harpoon - or where is it located within the HARPGAMER site. thanks in advance

Aim-7Ms acting like Aim-120s: From an F-15 I fired Aim-7Ms at a group of bombers. The program asked me to turn on the radar as the missile is semi-active radar homing. I did that and then turned the radar off. The missiles proceeded to miss the bombers, then they corrected and acted like Aim-120s with self-guidance and destroyed the bombers. This also happened in another game where I shot down all the opposing F-15s after they fired their Aim-7Ms. The Aim-7s did not disengage but continued to track to their targets (much to my surprise). In the database the Aim-7M is flagged as radar guided and semi-active guided. Could it be that it should only have the se…
