Missile Flags

Aim-7Ms acting like Aim-120s:

From an F-15 I fired Aim-7Ms at a group of bombers. The program asked me to turn on the radar as the missile is semi-active radar homing. I did that and then turned the radar off. The missiles proceeded to miss the bombers, then they corrected and acted like Aim-120s with self-guidance and destroyed the bombers. This also happened in another game where I shot down all the opposing F-15s after they fired their Aim-7Ms. The Aim-7s did not disengage but continued to track to their targets (much to my surprise).

In the database the Aim-7M is flagged as radar guided and semi-active guided. Could it be that it should only have the semi-active flag?

If you could point me to the information concerning the effects of the various missile flags I would appreciate it.

Thanks

I have seen this behavior, but I have also seen the missiles go dumb and self-destruct, which is what you would ordinarily expect. This leads me to believe that the addition of the 'Radar Guided' flag is not the issue, but I have never tested it.

There is a paucity of documentation for DB editing. Other than the basics, what is contained in the DB Editing Guide, there simply isn't any full and complete explanation of what the flags (for example) mean. It remains on the "To Do List", and we're still looking for help with that rather daunting task.

mmm.... this issue remembers me, the japanese AAM-4 (Type 99) (entry 18574) is flagged in the HCDB as ""Semi-active guidance", when is a Active Radar missile. Is embarrasing to play Westpac scenarios if you don't change the entry in the database :(

Very scarce data in Internet, I don't find now the reference, but IOC was 1999.

sites in Japanese language, I've half-readed it with the help of Babelfish:

In the first site a lot of data .... in japanese, where I almost understand those highlights: first, the advantages of Active Radar Guidance against SAR, the AAM-4 is also with inertial and mid-course guidance/datalink (to add to the HCDB), a big warhead to defeat cruise missiles, missile testing was placed in "Gifu research institute. Furthermore the hot place is G air space (the Komatsu open sea), (perhaps area R141)", a detailed report about testing shots, the great ECCM capalities of the AAM-4, the production costs are going down with the mass production, and, "new ship-based SAM (XRIM-4) development is done shortly in the Technical Research and Development Institute there is a story) and AAM-4 as a succession of the RIM-7M sea sparrow",

In the japanese wiki I almost understand too there's a improved variant of AAM-4 developed from 2002 (and fielded in 2008 says the precedente web site), I think I've read in the Babelfish semi-english :(

Wrong thread, but duly noted. When the AAM-4 entry was made, there was little information available, and in fact, the missile was still undergoing testing as late as 2008 (so 1999 would not have been IOC date). Now I have some better H4 data, so the entry will be updated in due course.

Sorry by the wrong thread.

Yes, I see now, 1999 not was an IOC date, I must revise my sources ...... ;)
