Effect of Changing Class

Featured Replies

Will changing the Type of a ship in the database (in this class INTL Sonya MCM was listed as FF in the database) have an effect on scenarios using that ship other than correctly identifying the type of ship? My concern is that scenarios that use the ship would change, perhaps not correctly including that ship or some other problem (instead of just correctly identifying it).

As mentioned earlier, I am new to this, but I am working on adding all of the navies of the Americas as well as updating other fleets (names and omitted classes), at least to Jane's 2004-2005 standard (latest I have).

I think that it could affect some scenarios if there is a ViCondition in the scenario that states something like, "Destroy ## FF" and the Sonya has been re-classified as an MCM, it would not likely qualify for such a ViCond.

Thanks. Never thought about that one. On the other hand, I can't ever recall seing a Sonya in any scenario, so I might be OK with that one.

I also am leaving the hull number for those like the newer Arleigh Burkes that now have names and adding the names to the list, just to avoid a conflict. Will do that also for ships that may have changed names recently.

At this point I'd like to pause and ask the question if you have contacted the two big DB authors (Divefreak and CV32 [aka Rene and Brad]) about cooperating one or both of their works rather than reinventing the wheel? There may not be a situation where all parties can agree but I highly suggest to anyone editing databases to join forces for the common good rather than just going it entirely alone before exploring the cooperative possibilities. This concludes your public service announcement B)

I haven't, didn't think about that, but I may be duplicating the work of others. I will see about contacting them next week when I have more time. Thanks for the idea.
