Background: This forum encapsulates perhaps the most thorough documentation of sub-optimal performance of HC. Most of the reports demonstrate excellent form and presentation to make addressing defects as easy as possible, use them as a template. The term Defect is used since not everything is a bug; some items are bugs, some are design limitations, some voice a dissenting viewpoint, defect is the term chosen to cover all of the ground.

Hints: A test scenario is better than a saved game. A tiny test scenario targeted at the problem helps track down the issue. The fewer the units in the scenario, the easier to debug as well.

  1. GE 2021.010, Test save game zip attached, using westpac battleset and hcdb 150929 database At point of start 3 fa 18 detect two helo and a ship. Total victory is to destroy a ship, min victory is to destroy a helo. If you first sink the ship then down the helo you only get min victory, I would expect you'd get both min and total victory as both conditions are met. If you down the helo then sink the ship you get your minimum vic (when helo is downed) and total when ship is sunk, as I'd expect. PS in the same scenario but with no minimum victory set you get total victory when you sink the ship so that is good. victest.zip

  2. Hello, I am playing an user scenario. When an air patrol is set to an intercept duty the AI repeat the air patrol launching another patrol of the same fighter with the same loadout. But when an air patrol is shot down by enemy while it is set to patrol duty the AI doesn´t repeat the air patrol. No patrols take off to replenish lost ones and you should set another air patrol manually if you want to. So the AI doesn´t repeat patrols for the AI side.

  3. Went to add some Chinese planes to a base while updating one of my scenarios. I couldn't find any Chinese Ships, Planes or Bases. Finally stumbled on them in the SE. It appears that Chine has been changed to Side. I checked the PE and China is listed for all db entries I checked. I have included a copy of the PE and SE files in the download. I checked multiple versions of my PE, the issue seems to be consistently there. I have updated other scenarios lately and haven't noticed before. I am using 2021.009 version of HC.   4. Three patrols within formation about Richmond base have been set P3s dropping sonar buoys to track their path. See screen shot, the two P3s patrolling the centre circle only patrol the east of north 1/8th segment. I expect them to patrol the whole central circular zone.   5. I might have wrongly read TonyE comments on the GE changes but assumed that if no total victory conditions are set in the scenario total victory will be granted if all enemy are destroyed but this doesn't happen if there are remaining neutrals.

In update 2021.005, when using the HC Launcher, if Instant Action is enabled and a commondb BattleSet is selected in the HC Launcher, the game may error out as a result of Instant Action conflicting with the BattleSet selection. This may occur after resetting the HCE registry settings in windows. Please let me know if you need more details. Eric

  7. I have tried using this for small changes to a scenario, large changes and twice to create new scenarios but each time I try to save the scenario I get the following error and the editor closes without saving. I have downloaded and installed all updates but error persists... Help!

  8. In the GE, when the formation editor button is pressed, the units for that group disappear from the Unit window. The units should remain visible in the Unit window.

  9. While I'm waiting for Ultimate edition to go on sale, I am desperately trying to get the last mileage out of my HCE. However now I have encountered a strange problem. I can play the battleset scenarios fine, but when I try to tweak them in the scenario editor, the game crashes with an Annex error. Even small changes like moving a carrier will produce a crash. This install is using an outdated database (2009.050) However the battlesets are playable, its just a mystery why I cant edit. I've tried to install the HC2018 Beta database, but it just destroys the install and says it has expired. Any help deeply appreciated to help me get my Harpoon fix until the eventu…

When playing the user scenario EC Tom1_1.scn, in EC2003 Battle for the Atlantic Ocean running Build 2021.006 in Win 10 (via Parallels on a Mac - its complicate but things usually work just fine!) the game crashed without warning and produced the following message: At the time of the crash my machine had roughly 1.24 GB of memory available The having re-opened Harpoon the "saved game" would not reload and produced the following message: Is this just a "thing" or can the "saved game" be rescued (because, damn it, I was winning!)?   11. A user from the Great White North, recently returned to the game is experiencing memory corruption in the original USNI BattleSet, Scenario 5.0. He has experienced this both in 2020.009 and 2020.017. Some saved games are attached. I have tested extensively using AutoTest and have not replicated either issue (game exiting with heap corruption error [USNI5.zip] nor game exiting without any warning [NoErrorCrash.zip]). Right after the USNI5.zip saves a Slava is sunk but does not trigger a crash for me. The user has mentioned doing a lot of air group splitting and joining while playing. I view that as a valuable hint as very few players exercise that function…

  12. I'm playing on the legacy GIUK battleset running the latest beta files on Windows 7, and using HCDB-150928. I've noticed that the Formation Editor is missing the usual buttons to set sizes and assign units to zones! I've attached a save game, simple scenario, and screenshot in the zip. Pressing F4 on any group in both scenario and save should show the problem. This does not happen on GE 2018.002, BTW. formation editor issue files.zip

  13. In VBA7 the comdlg32.dll OpenFile dialog can't be used. I've tested the approach listed at ms access - Convert Open dialog VBA code to 64 bit - Stack Overflow and it works fine. Just need to integrate it correctly in the PE for the next build.

Hi, I've been playing most of the default Battleset scenarios, specifically WestPac, and have come across an issue where Blue Tanker units are run aground at scenario start of WestPac2 (Pirate War). No issue in official 2015.027. Maybe a beta issue or just me?     When loading SE gets GetDiskAnnexA Error: !lS_Disk(51627..... Figured out the issue was in the Installations Annex, ID 51627 Japan airbase Komatsu was missing the following: No Side No Lat or Long No Runway Type No Runway Count Upon further investigation after fixing Komatsu, loaded the scenario again and received another Base Get annex error. Looked in the db and found and found various bases missing the same info on them. I was asked to look into a problem from another forum member who was receiving the GetDiskAnnex errors after making a small edit to the db. Prior to editing the db he was unable to edit the bases.

  16. I get a couple of different errors when trying to load user scenarios in HCE. GetMemAnnexA Error: !!S_Disk. The message has been logged. The Program will now terminate. or The requested scenario file requires a newer version of the game. This scenario is version 5. This games supports through version 3. Exiting. (game says no updates are available) Any help getting these scenarios to load would be appreciated.

    Tony, SE Screen Magnification is a problem. When I went to 2X mummification I was unable ti scroll right or left. I could go up but not down. The same thing happens at the other magnification settings. There is black (land) where water is supposed to be. I was trying to set AD units that were Barges in a very tight area of water. I couldn't move the screen to the right. Attached is a copy of my latest db, scenario file and several screen sshots.   18. I have ran three scenarios which were created for EC2000 Norwegian Sea and then tried again converting to EC2003 GIUK. The results for each scenario were different depending on what side you ran it from Red Or Blue. Converting to 2003 had no differ results. Here are my results with the three scenarios attached for testing. Time compression and DB for 2003 had no different affect. Cv32 did not stop responding when ran from either Red or Blue side. You_And_Me_Against_The_World would stop responding when ran from the Blue side but would run fine from the Red side. Eurofed 1 would stop responding for both Blue and Red sides.   20. I have encountered a hypersonic Rafael in the You and Me Scenario created in the 2000 Norwegian Sea Battleset. In the test scenario provided I have a blue base in UK in which a single SR71 is based and a second blue base in Norway. The red base contains Rafael C which are put on patrol in the formation editor. Upon launching the SR71 to ferry to the Norwegian base and activated the radar the Rafael C soon goes hypersonic to intercept the SR71. Further testing shows this does not happen with the B or M version of the Rafael.
