Does anyone have H4.1 equivelent stats on this Russian Air Surveillance Radar. On chat last night we were throwing around various websites and stats but there generally was no unit of measure for the altitude. Brad: Any in your "notes"?

When a ship has more than one radar for the same purpose, say Air Search, if a ship CO chose to utilize one of them, under what circumstances would he not just utilize all of them? I would assume that redundancy is the key, so if one it lit, they all might as well be. Thanks, Pete

Playing Dave's wonderful scenario: Send in the Marines from Naval Review 2003. Planning to do a surgical strike with Tomahawk LACM. Looking at the annexes at the Tomahawk cruise missiles: My question is: What is TERCOM? I know the tomahawk uses terrain mapping for guidance, but thats it. How is this played in H4? Also, the warhead strength: what does it mean 4x14 for damage? It says 4 attacks. Does this mean 4 attacks at 14 dp strength? or 1 attack at 56 points rolled 4 times? I am guessing that this only involves attacking land targets rolling on the critical hit table. thanks.

Using the new Sitrep 31 air rules. Regarding Initial conditions of a Dogfight: If a F-16a with a maneuver rating of 4.0 is dogfighting a Mig-23MF with a maneuver rating of 3.0, does the F-16 get to fire first, even though the Mig-23 has a speed advantage? In my test scenario: A F-16a had to maneuver to avoid a SARH missile attack from the Mig-23MF, thus reducing its speed to 350 knots. The Mig 23 was zipping along at 700 knots before the range closed to Dogfight range. Should I have added +2 to the Mig-23s maneuver rating due to speed when the dogfight began? Now, the Mig has a maneuver rating of 5.0 and would get to go first. This would have made a huge difference i…

Just received sitrep 31 and Naval Review 2003. I already own Naval Review 2009 Looking over the new air rules, gonna try them this weekend. Just looking them over quickly, I may use parts of both. I like the randomness of disengaging from a dogfight. Also, I am not sure if it is appropriate to use pilot quality for air to air missile combat. Definately for guns. Seems much less complicated to end a dogfight. I am guessing that the dogfight is no longer "sticky".

Designed my own scenario based on a Sea of Dragons scenario between the Singapore Navy and Indonesian pirates. 2x Singapore Sea Wolf PGs vs a Fatahillah class FFL and a PB-57 and 2x pirate skiffs as per the excellent 2009 naval review. I used the many rules found here in playing pirate scenarios and adopted them for the Sea of Dragons scenario. The scenario started as the Sea Wolves heading southeast at 20kn. the civilian tanker was stopped with 2x pirate skiffs alongside. Before the pirates captured the tanker the ships captain was able to sent off a distress signal. The Indonesian PB-57 which was collaborating with the pirates was 1000 yards off. The Se…

Got a few AARs going up now, and discussion. Any thoughts on tactics though? I've thrown a few planes into dog fights etc, rolled the dice, played out scenarios. But no real thought to tactics. Any ideas how tactics could come into play for any scenario?

I used to have the first 20 or so of these magazines. I dont remember throwing them out, but i have been unable to find them. Did anyone else ever read these? They had great articles in them, does anyone know where similar articles might be on-line? http://www.payhost.net/aviation/acatalog/W...ues_0___9_.html

0:00:0 Range 70.0nm 2x Mirages flying at Low altitude crusing at 516kts pick up 2x F-15's flying CAP (Medium altitude) at a range of 70.0 nm on their radar. Radar LOS is 135nm and detection is automatic due to intermeadiate turns. The F-15's radar does not have a chance to detect the smaller Mirage until the range is 25.0nm. 0:04:0 Range 30.0nm 4 minutes later the range has decreased to 30.0nm and the Mirages drop further to Very Low altitude (approx 30 meters) and are literally skimming the ground (wanting to avoid being picked up at all by the F-15's). Each engagement turn a roll must be made against the "crash" table on page 3-8. The chance of a crash is 5% f…

2x Jaguar GR.1 with 8x Mk83 each are tasked with a strike on an observed ammunition dump located a couple hundred meters northwest of an intersection. Target area is defended by a battery of Bofor 40mm/L70 with a Fly Catcher FCR. The Jags started from their IP which is 10nm from the target, at 650kts and 300 feet or about 150m in the Low Altitude Ban. The aircraft speed and attack geometry had the Jags dropping their bombs prior to being engaged by the bofors battery. Lead completely missed and Dash2 got two hits for 80DP. An arbitrary DP total of 100 for the ammo dump left the attack causing .8 damage and a die roll of 4 provided for a critical hit status on the du…

First light. Light rain falling. An Argentinean DDG (Destroyer?) is sitting 3.0nm off the coast of the falklands. A Tornado (don't ask, just accept its there) is coming in at NOE (90m high) from over the land to attack her. The Tornado plans to approach to within 5.0nm and make a lob-toss attack using 2 Mk82 general purpose dumb bombs. My first task was to determine detection ranges for each. This ended up being interesting. The Tornado is flying at NOE (90m) and can detect the Hercules DDG (small target) at 16.0nm. However due to 4.2.5.2 land mass effects the range is halved to 8.0nm. 4.2.5.4 rain effects shows that light rain reduces Pd by 10% and a 25% …

The most recent Naval Sitrep (#31 I believe) has the Admiraty Trilogy's new air rules. I read through them and studied the examples last night, and look to run through some harpoon era air engagements over the next few days. Has anyone else read or tried these yet?

Hello all! It's nice to finally come across some fellow people who have an interest in the Harpoon System. I've been an owner of the rules for a couple of years and although I've thumbed through them, I've never actually had an opportunity to dive right in (pun intended). But reading all of these AARs and such, I'm really able to now visualize how some of the rules actually interact with each other and I'm excited to really get myself involved. I do have a few questions though, pertaining to the Unification Project I've heard mentioned a few times. Is there eventually going to be one solid volume of Data Annexes detailing "The Navies of the World" from 1900 to Present…

Today's attack consisted on a strike against a suspected enemy brigade hq. 2x Jaguar GR.1, each loaded with 2x BL175 CBU and 2x Mk82 500 lb bombs. Target an enemy brigade headquarters, an assortment of bermed tentage and a handful of vehicles, all cammied up. I gave the HQ the equivilent of a reveted aircraft position...15DP. Defense were 2x Bofors 40mm/L70 (without RA) and a SA-7 Strela Team. Began with IP 8nm from suspected HQ. At range of 1.7nm HQ spotted. Ground forces also spot the attacking aircraft. Jags at 600kts (FMP), in Low Altitude Band, each drop two BL175's via horizontal laydown "small pattern". First time utilizing Cluster Bombs in …

Does the APG-70's SAR/ISAR characteristics allow for target classification the moment of it's detection? If so, this appears to give such an aircraft quite a bit of standoff in relation to its other detection assets such as LANTIRN and FLIR. Based on a detection/classification by SAR/ISAR, I'd assume that the aircraft would then attempt to best position itself to effectively employ its weapons within those weapon's particular envelopes and other guidance parameters. Would the APG-70 hand over such target information to the LANTIRN Pod so that the pod would be cued to those targets. Thanks

My initial idea was to see the effect of various different units carrying out an attack against an airfield. In my mind I viewed the airfield as an isolated not-well equipped one somewhere in Africa (think the book/movie “Wild Geese”). Then I decided that the airfield consisted of a few different things, and I planned to have each of my attack craft deal with different layers of the airfield. So I rolled what I wanted to do up into a single planned attack against the same airfield in this AAR. I’ve drawn up a map of an airfield on graph paper. Each square is 50 yards. There is a runway 2km long, single radar (single square) control tower (single square), 2 x …

One of the purposes of this scenario was to have a submarine travelling at something faster than "crawl" speed, to see if it would be detected or not. I chose a T56 ASW ship because being a ASW type, i thought it might have a better chance to detect the sub. To make the submarine work (have to speed up) i placed it 20.0nm behind the T56 and had it chase down and get a visual (not just a sonar detection). Somewhere in the North Atlantic. Sea state 4. A french made T56 ASW patrol boat is steaming home. On board her sonars had picked up some new secret underwater sounds likely generated by an unknown nationalities new submarine. Its believed to be the first time th…
