South Atlantic War

Can anyone comment on South Atlantic War - the Falklands module?

Is it any good? Anyone playing it?

There is a second edition, South Atlantic War 2, from Clash of Arms that I enjoy quite a bit. The first was by Game Designers Workshop but applies to the H3 paper rules. Scenarios mostly address individual tactical situations throughout the campaign. Most of the scenarios which do not require detailed aircraft mission planning, but provides you with the forces and general situation, and allows you to get right into the "combat" portion. Also found within SAW2 is the Ground Combat System (GCS) rules and limited data to re-fight some of the Falklands ground battles. (There are also GCS scenarios and forces in High Tide, but no rules as SAW2 is the only module with them).

A note on GCS is that a new GCS is planned as part, albeit a late part, of the Trilogy unification project.

I have enjoyed my SAW2 to the point that the booklet's binding now has to be clipped together to ensure I do not lose anything. :D

South Atlantic War is version 4.0. Is it compatible with H4.1?

Yep, it'll work just great with H4.1. The rules are living and changing all of the time but SAW2 easily fits with the H4.1 rules.

thanks tony. I was worried about the data annexs perhaps not being in 4.1 standard and not being able to use them with the 4.1 rules.

I have just placed my order for SAW based on this quote.

No pressure though!!! :-)

Oh the pressure :) ....I hope you enjoy it as much as I still do. I dug it out earlier this week for some info.

I'm re-reading the second edition now for some scenario work in ANW. It's a very good read and well worth the money I paid for it (I got it at Origins 06)

Is there GCS info anywhere for units other than those in South Atlantic War?

Hi KC

The Annex T (ithink) from SAW2 is woefully incomplete. It does give you british and argentines, as well as a US battalion and soviet MRR. High Tide has some more soviet stuff, some Naval Infantry and some Danes, etc.

Some time ago I put together a Soviet/Russian Parachute Battalion:

Glueck Ab!

That said, part of the Admiralty Trilogy Unification is a new GCS. Also an ongoing MBX also has home brewed GCS for many forces but probalby wont see that for some time.

[EDIT:Me] Also a USMC MEU and Iranian Revolutionary Guards Infantry Brigade in Harpoon Naval Review 2003.
