Jaguar GR.1 Strike on EN Brigade HQ

Featured Replies

Today's attack consisted on a strike against a suspected enemy brigade hq. 2x Jaguar GR.1, each loaded with 2x BL175 CBU and 2x Mk82 500 lb bombs. Target an enemy brigade headquarters, an assortment of bermed tentage and a handful of vehicles, all cammied up.

I gave the HQ the equivilent of a reveted aircraft position...15DP. Defense were 2x Bofors 40mm/L70 (without RA) and a SA-7 Strela Team.

Began with IP 8nm from suspected HQ. At range of 1.7nm HQ spotted. Ground forces also spot the attacking aircraft.

Jags at 600kts (FMP), in Low Altitude Band, each drop two BL175's via horizontal laydown "small pattern". First time utilizing Cluster Bombs in a while so revisited 6.3.4.1.5 Cluster Bombs. This causes resolving as Dive Bomb - Medium Altitude.

Single Bomb: .27. 1 Hit: 47, 2 Hits: 7. All four miss.

Both Bofors fire short range at crossing target (1/2) and RA capable in OP (1/2). Both miss. SA-7 fires and misses. Janguars 2nd Generation Decoys played a roll here.

Undetered from their mission, the Jag pilots reach down and grab ahold, bank around to re-attack, this time dive bombing with 2x Mk82 each, from Low.

Lead scores a hit, Dash2 scores two hits. 51 total DP's. Enemy HQ is plastered.

Bofors each fire again and miss again, as does the SA-7 team.

Jaguar pilots wing for home after a successful mission.

Your write ups are more fun to read than mine (making mental note of this).

On your second attack you "dive bomb" from "low altitude". Just sounds funny. I'd need to get my rules out to check if its allowed.

Why always with the Jaguars (I'm just curious)?

(i have some thoughts on other threads but need time to do my own reading first).

Hi KC,

6.3.4.1.1 Dive Bombing only prohibits dive bombing from "Very Low" as the rules add with a bit of levity, "...not really prohibited, but the last ops officer to brief a VLow dive bombing attack got stuffed up a relief tube..." :) I often get wrapped up with the band names and what they infer yet the Low Band does extend from 329 to 6,562 feet (101-2000m).

Jaguars...just a recent kick. The last evolution with the F-15E seemed to give too much stand-off for the local air defense to have any chance at countering. Realistic perhaps, but not as much fun attempting to game out, so I dialed the technology back some.

As it was short ranged, I dispensed with the mission planning process. I did engagement turns throughout the attack. I also would post as you did if it were any longer in duration or if I wanted people to comment on my mechanics. Keep 'em coming.
