Yes, my mistake in the documenting there, .0100.hp?. A maximum of 9999 game saves per rotation. That would be a ton of files for one directory so while 9999 is possible, it will be somewhat painful for you to sort through using Windows Explorer, especially if you have 9999 saves of four different games for almost 40,000 files in one directory!

2011.012 - 2011/09/18 Added the -S interval and total saves options in accordance with 2011.012 GE Also made sure that it will save those settings in the .ini file and load them back up again next time you run the launcher.
  3. HCE - 2011.012 - 2011/09/18 =========================== - Chg:B206 SE Modified the Edit Group dialog in the hopes of aircraft list only resetting to the top when it should. http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...amp;showbug=206 - Chg:0000 GE Changed the -S command line option to add two specifiers -S123450100 would save the game every 12,345 game seconds and would go from .001.hp? to .100.hp? before rolling over and overwriting .001.hp?. Also added the save message to the message log window.

  5. Actually the exact link is http://forums.xkcd.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&a...=74081#p2740291 but yes, multiple examples!
  6. Not my own but I very much enjoyed it! "Only on Xkcd can you start a topic involving Hitler and people spend the better part of half a dozen pages arguing about the quality of Operating Systems." http://www.xkcd.org/
  7. I like this discussion! There are some truly capable AI designers out there. Most breakthroughs in AI seem to come in the form of doctoral thesis projects and the engines they produce are inevitably limited in scope and left to wither on the vine once the new doctor heads out into the world. I may just have to agree with Eddy with the modification that 'telepresence' may be a better choice for the next 5-10 years while capable generic AI engines continue to mature. Small developers making wargames don't seem to have the budget and in-house talent to craft an AI appropriate for a game like Harpoon. Games with less variability (a few set battles) have AIs that are extremely capable, even chains of command, but an AI generic yet capable enough for Harpoon seems out of reach. Then there is the whole battle of making that AI useable by scenario designers (i.e. which dials can I present to the scenario designer such that he isn't overwhelmed yet still has the control he wants). Let's all hope I'm proven wrong and a whole slew of grad students crafts a complete human replacement and easy interfaces!
  8. I'd start at the most recent post (bottom of page). Interesting theory. What do you all think? "The days of the single-player game are numbered. " http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.ib...0700963145fdbc#
  9. Right on Gunny, Steven, you need to zip up the scenario file before uploading. It also doesn't hurt to include a short description in a text file and include that in the zip as well (not required though). Holler if you need more detail.

The Harpoon 3 Mac version has not been updated in a long time and there are no plans to bring it up to date. I expect it will run on Lion but I have not tested it. You might try contacting Don Gilman aka Uncle Harpoon . Make sure to post back your findings!

It is intentional to show all messages but it imho is not correct. I mean to write a DLL that separates them somehow (one tab for each side or checkboxes for which sides to show or ...).

I get the feeling it may happen at any time during the scenario so letting it run seems appropriate. Then again Enrique seems to be the only one who can reliably repeat the source condition that leads to the stopping so it is probably one that will have to await his return from vacation. Thank you for trying though! I'll eventually expand upon the -S saving with options (intervals other than every game second and allowing a total # of saves other than 4096).

2011.011 - 2011/09/09 Added the -S command line option for iterative saving every game second in accordance with 2011.011 GE

HCE - 2011.011 - 2011/09/09 =========================== - Chg:0000 GE Added -S command line option that will save the game every game second in a ITER_SAVE_GAMETIME subdirectory of your game directory. It does 4096 saves then starts again at one (rolls). - Chg:0000 GE Debugging aid just for Enrique tells him which save to send in for analysis on the submarines stopping issue.
  15. Enrique (and maybe Don?), this one is for you to help track down the submarines stopping without authorization problem. You have to turn on the new iterative saving on the command line so instead of running winharp32sides.exe you need to run winharp32sides.exe -S the -S must be a capital S Play the test scenario in the issue report (not the saves, the scenario from the start). Send me the saved game if prompted (it will tell you which save file to zip up and send to me). Thanks!
  16. I know I'm not the best strategic thinker around here... I just want to shoot down Backfires with my F-14T Super Tomcats. But , why Global Hawk and not something smaller like Reaper? Korea isn't all that large and Global Hawk is big and expensive. What does Global Hawk give them for the money that a Reaper-sized UAV would not?

donaldseadog confirmed this fixed via the issue tracker
  18. HCE - 2011.010 - 2011/09/05 =========================== - Chg:B210 GE Nuclear missile impact could crash the game. (thanks Mack) http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...amp;showbug=210 Test fix with 2009.063 since that's what we have test files for.

    That's great Don, thank you!
  20. Hehe, and I've run VMWare since version 3 and find it much more flexible and capable but my usage is probably different (software testing where rolling back to a variety of checkpoints and replaying situations is valuable). And yes, it is illegal to use XP Mode on Windows 7 Home and Starter editions even if it is technically possible. I don't think we can allow a whole lot more posts suggesting using unlicensed software.

HCE - 2011.009 - 2011/09/03 =========================== - Chg:0000 HC20 Enabled Sound Blaster sound in Harpoon 1.54A. (thanks SilentHunter) - Chg:B207 GE Nuclear torpedo impact could crash the game. (thanks Mack) http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...amp;showbug=207
  22. HCE - 2011.009 - 2011/09/03 =========================== - Chg:0000 HC20 Enabled Sound Blaster sound in Harpoon 1.54A. (thanks SilentHunter) - Chg:B207 GE Nuclear torpedo impact could crash the game. (thanks Mack) http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...amp;showbug=207 I did not include the HC20 fix so unless you hunt it down in SHUK's thread you probably won't be testing that. And the nuke torpedo fix can only be tested in the 2009.??? series but do please note your results here and in the Issue Tracker. If it is fixed in that version then it is fixed in 2011.009.
  23. Now there is an airplane that could do buddy tanking! Attack mainland US entirely with J-20, buddy tanking along the way. Drop a few bombs on San Fran to scare the pants off of California, save the ballistic missiles for the general war.
