  1. The focus of 2007.015 was the Ship to Ship torpedo firing, specifically . The goal is for it to remember the side and position of last base added, until you exit the base add dialog Please Test: 1. Make sure AI will fire torps against player ships (it will only do this when it cannot fire missiles or guns) 2. Make sure ASuW range ring include dual purpose guns.
  2. Looks like Rene has an early start on this, what we're looking for are the limits where the game starts to act strange. Once you have a battleset of a certain geographical size to planes stop flying to the location correctly... Similarly on small battlesets where do things goes funky, we'll use the results to do some limiting on what the user will be allowed to enter into the BSBuilder by default.
  3. Looks like a good start guys, any test file sets for future use?
  4. The focus of 2007.014 was the Base Add dialog. The goal is for it to remember the side and position of last base added, until you exit the base add dialog Related Mantis Entries: http://www.harpoon5.com/mantis/view.php?id=1920
  5. The focus of 2007.012 was allowing the use of battlesets created with the BSBuilder. Please Test: 1. Using BSBuilder battlesets with the GE and SE. a. Textured maps should not be used as you'll see when you try.
  6. The focus of 2007.011 was fixing the attack type dialog where you choose Missile, Torpedo, or Guns attack. Please Test: 1. Make sure the dialog is consistent for you. a. i.e. Missile attack doesn't include torps, torp attack doesn't include missiles, etc. 2. Make sure ASROC type weapons work (torps in missiles) a. From player side b. From AI side 3. Make sure Subs can attack ships (from player and AI sides) a. With missiles b. With torpedoes 4. See if AI ships will torpedo Player ships (Rene verified this to be non functioning) a. Probably requires DB customization. Rob, As well as HarpGamer here, there are screenshots and discussion about HCE at Matrix Games http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tt.asp?forumid=305 . A few of us from HarpGamer (myself, CV32, and Akula) will be heading up HCE development once the game is released so HarpGamer will be a happening place for Harpoon Classic

Hi Rob, You bring up a good point and one I overlooked when throwing together the download section here, there have been a couple of scenario file formats in HC's history. 1.63 version of the game has the first scenario file format, part way into HC Gold came the current format (which will in turn be modified sometime in the next year or so). Getting to the point, you'll have much better results grabbing scenarios from http://www.harpoonpages.com/hcscene.htm . It sounds like your procedure is fine, download, unzip, launch the game, and load the scenario from within the game. Any plans to buy HCE when it is released?
  9. Thanks for sharing Pete, Did the Tico have to radiate to get a fix on the VA, might the VA launch a couple of bearing only shots from the direction of the incoming missiles (ought to have a good bearing since radars were already on to track the incoming Harpoons)? Looking at the HC Radar LOS table the 25nm should be just on the borderline of LOS for those two ships, maybe the even detects the Tico before VA gets smacked? Just ideas on how the VA with a more astute crew might prolong death at the hands of AEGIS a little longer...

  11. How was the Raptor show? Usually I like the Modern Marvels series, good intros to topics imho.
  12. Holy bad news batman! I'm all for pilots but the unmanned world is going to pass the US Navy by, UCAS actually holds a small possibility of reduced costs when the Navy faces years of nowhere near enough money to build the ships that are needed, not wanted but needed. Pete is probably right about the reason, the 'pilot mafia', hehe, now that my favorite fighter mafia is gone... Not to mention UCAS perhaps being able to be scaled in physical size more easily than manned planes to get us away from some of these $10 billion+ super carriers/planes that are going to be sunk for the cost of a few million dollars of torpedos from AIP subs. That's for those of you who forgot I think a super carrier is an indefensible target against a Russian/Chinese/anybody with a DE fleet, concerted attack

Thanks for the multiplayer time guys I did some testing after the 2 v 2 furball and found that the F/A-18C stands almost zero chance against the F-16C that Brains was flying. We'll have to balance planes out a little better for the next furball.
  14. Good to see you getting into your role Kelly, take Hawaii, next stop the Moon?

Tonight we welcomed pmaidhof to the multiplayer arena. Once his jammed right rudder was fixed things looked up. Now if we can get the Brains into the action we'll be sitting fairly pretty!

Hi there, 1. I would update directly to 3.8.0.0 that you downloaded, it is the target against which the scenario designers are scurrying to match. 2. This is a tough question to answer, imho 3.8.0.0 wins again. There isn't a ton of material for the ANW series at all (the bulk is still for 3.6.3). I think you will find 3.8.0.0 to work best with the material out there and similarly to the scenarios, the databases are being tweaked for 3.8.0.0. It isn't so much an issue of them working or not (they'll work), it is an issue of the scenarios playing how the scenario designer intended or not (and in some cases Victory Conditions not firing when they should). I'm glad you are looking forward to time with ANW despite the inevitable shortcomings. I play it, test it, and have a good time despite sometimes annoying problems. PlayersDB at present seems to have the broadest 3.8.0.0 compatibility and scenario selection (the database does not use the new flags but is tuned to work well in 3.8). Progress is being made over at HHQ as well, especially in the WWII era.
  17. Very nice Pete!

  19. After a few years of trying on and off, CV32 and myself finally met with success in establishing a multiplayer mission. For those of you who don't know, Fighters Anthology was one of the Janes' branded flight sims from Electronic Arts. It combined US Navy Fighters, Marine Fighters, ATF (Advanced Tactical Fighters), bug fixes, and new stuff. What that lineage means, is crappy graphics even for 1998 when it was released. But on the up side, tons of flyable planes, more missions than you can shake a stick at, and some pretty good stability. It is without a doubt my favorite flight sim since I can pick it up for a few minutes, have fun, then go on with my day. It doesn't have the complexity of Falcon, or F-15 that makes the games at times difficult to enjoy (though sometimes you are just in a Lock-On mood, no matter how long it takes to figure out how to lock up a target). One great feature of FA is Airbase Assault multiplayer mode where you and your friends try to destroy the airbase of a bunch of other players (or at least kill their planes). It was one of those rare moments of balance just working out (imho of course). You could succeed by stealthily flying a B-2 to the opposing base and raising cane just as well as flying an F-15E and fighting your way in. Only thru the genius of some hacker can we play FA today thru NAT boxes. See http://www.vnfawing.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2631 for details and the tool. A few sites (yes, the game still has an active mod community, how crazy is that!): FARC http://farc.3synergy.net/ The Training Room (not all that useful) http://www.geocities.com/zolos_fa/ http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Realm/7194/fa.htm Find the two decent cheats here http://razor-tac169th.tripod.com/ System Requirements: Pretty much anything run Win98 or newer. Right now I run the game on a Core 2 Due notebook running Vista and a 1.2GHz notebook running WinXP SP2 (this one has been used for the multiplayer games). Anyone who wants to join in and needs help, drop a line.
  20. I've got a pretty good case of the WitP withdrawal shakes, come on Kelly, Dewayne, we need an update
  21. This is getting good Pete, pretty soon you'll be using a QF-4 as a decoy to get those SAM batteries to show themselves to the HARM birds. Good missions to try and replicate in Fighters Anthology as well and see if Brad and I make it thru the defenses
  22. Yup, Cool! Thanks for posting up the link Pete
  23. I wasn't terribly impressed by the Dogfights episodes I saw while house sitting. As Pete mentioned somewhere, they could have accomplished the episodes in 10-15 minutes, felt like the news to me, 30 minutes of filler and 10 minutes of meat. Definitely kudos to a different approach of using a flight sim to provide some detail where no real life footage exists or footage doesn't explain the situation. Once again I think the producers missed though in not outlining the level of historical accuracy in each simulated section, some were obviously for effect and had little or no basis in reality. Well, that's my 2 cents
